Team looked very good tonight.
Great uptempo D
The"O" looked much improved moving the ball through Zack at the foulline. Zack is playing very well.
Duren has taken his game to another level.
Galloway is a pro
What has me most excited is adding Garland, Mills and DJ play very nice "D" but they struggle creating their own shot. When Galloway is out we seem to struggle b/c we lack that scorer. statring against bucknell we get that scorer without losing the "D'. look out.
PSU came out playing weel we just wore them out, kudos to G and the staff.
We really have something brewing here. This team will take it up a notch once Ty comes into play.
Great win.
Great "D"
Great passion

Great night. The team played very well and kudos to G for doing a good job on the bench. The ball movement was impressive. The switch to zone was important due to foul trouble but PSU couldn't hit or take any 3's.
Special thanks to the student body. They were there in numbers which is impressive considering finals are the next. This week is harder because lots of time papers are due. The students were loud and into the game the whole night. They were clean too from what I could hear ( the exact opposite of a couple of the PSU students that were near me. One young man's favor thing to yell at the ref was " you eat s#&t.").
Speaking of refs, rare appearance by one of the Crown Princes....Ed Hightower led the Big Ten crew.
What can you say about Duren? He is wonderful.

What a great game. Had my first chance to watch the team, after listening to most of the first 5 games on the internet. Duren is a really good player. There is not questioning that. I would be shocked if he is not A-10 First team or at least considered. Which is really strong considering the talent that came in with Butler and VCU. Another nice thing about the game on NBC Sports was that we got Stan Van Gundy as an announcer. A guy that has coached at the highest level and had nothing but good things to say about Duren and Galloway....as well as most of the team as well. Coaching included. My only concern that i could think of would be the front court. I think we have all discussed this before. Zack played well. Brown was solid as well as DJ. They all played well, but it concerns me, when we will get a team that plays a stronger post game. The guards do a great job of playing big, Galloway in particular, but you can only do so much when you are 6'3", and you are guarding a 6'10" guy in the post.

Zack has held his own against better athletes, and has great stats particularly field goal percentage because he is selective enough with the shots and looks to pass if he has no path to the basket. If Zack really starts crashing the boards and Jerrell plays without picking up 2 early fouls, then it is the other teams that are in trouble. Not us.

I was switching between LSU and the Temple/Nova game last night. Zack impressed me. He is a very serviceable big man. He played good defense and when the ball went through him on offense, he was able to pass out to an open perimeter player for a three. His offense needs some work but so do most underclass big men. I saw him take a baby-hook shot that missed the mark. If he can make that his signature shot (or get any type of signature shot) you'll have a player. Also, I loved the gold shoe laces...

Nice win. They bombed 3's all over the place. Galloway throwing up NBA 3's. Those are the kind of shots you don't want him to take until they go in. Nice D as well. We are going to need some sort of inside game if we want to compete with better teams. Jerrell was non existent on offensive. Thought Zack played well but he needs to be able to score with his back to the basket. Dureen looked tough. Also not a lot of turn overs. This team just looked tough tonight. I think I am starting to see them learning how to win. Lets keep it rolling. Also..my kids loved the uniforms. They looked sharp.

The amazing part is most of those Galloway bombs were beyond NBA range

Just hope G can keep the team focused. I don't see a team on the schedule until we get into league play that we should not have a great chance to beat. We may need to win out the remaining OOC to have a legitimate NCAA at large spot possibility (assuming we do well in the league). We just don't have the recent "cred" built up to expect any breaks with the committee.

Talkinbball, you don't think we will be underdogs at Bucknell and Miami? Both are very difficult. Bucknell is talented, well coached and tough gym (although I think the students leave for the Holiday Break). Miami beat Michigan State (that's good enough for me). Miami is huge on the frontline. Barry Larkin's kid is a stud. I'm not worried about their arena but Larranaga is QUALITY.
Also please don't underestimate Northeastern. They played the best man-to-man defense against us last year that I saw.
While I'm worrying about everything else. Iona is tough and Siena is always a rough road game (going back to MAAC days).
I don't disagree that we need to probably sweep the OCC schedule to get back on the bubble.
Someone told me that Hartford lost by 4 at Arizona State recently. I'll have to check that out on their website. Good for John Gallagher.

my hope with Bucknell is that Garland is ready to play and we catch them off guard because there will be no film of the team with hm in there.
NE is a tough game just as Rider was and the team will have to come ready to play. What I really like about these guys is they seem to have really embraced the idea of going hard all the time. As bad as it was to lose to CCSU I think it truly opened their eyes to the fact that on any given night you can get beat if you're not 100% ready to play
Looking further ahead, Iona will be tough because of their back court being a tough match up for us. I watched Siena play St Bonnies the other night and was unimpressed by both teams. Siena is young on the perimeter and did a lot of dumb things with the ball and actually reminded me a lot of PSU. Miami will be a tough road game, but the guys will be pumped up to play them. In addition, Miami will have just returned from Hawaii and be getting ready to start ACC play and we could very well be a trap game for them. so that could possibly help.
Winning out the OOC puts us SQUARELY on the bubble if not better than that. At which point it will only require a successful A10 campaign to get into the dance, something that we want to have regardless of the OOC. For now, let's just hope everyone is focused on NE tomorrow night and we get a good win.

Bucknell is a good team. But the Bucknell game is a game that if we play the way we are capable of we should win.
Please remember this Bucknell team just lost to Penn State a couple weeks back. And also remember that we smoked them last year.
I understand this is a new year and we are on the road, but it is a game that if we play the way we are capable of playing we should win. It should be a competitive game against a good team, but I expect us to win a tough game.
Miami will be difficult. By that time Garland will have a couple games or so under his belt and hopefully we are clicking. But it will probably be a tough game.
Also, any team that relies on their back court I feel confident against (someone mentioned Iona - who lost to St. Peter's the other day). Our guards are very good - and Galloway and Mills are fierce defenders and Tyreek is turning into a tough defender himself (also add DJ who is a good defender) and I'll take my chances against a team that relies on their guards.
But the most important game for us right now is Northeastern tomorrow - a game that if we don't come out intense we can lose. Hopefully we come up firing on all cylinders.

NCAA teams win games like Bucknell. I agree it will be tough but if we are to get NCAA consideration you need to win games like that.
I would also caution those who think Garland comes right in and makes a huge immediate impact. He has not played in a year and quite frankly hasn't played much college ball at all. Even transfers that play a lot prior tend to come in are play a biy rusty to start. Let's give him some time.

by no means do I expect him to contribute more than 10-12 mins per game but he does provide another combination of players and allows the other 3 guards to get afew minutes rest. It's hard to close out tight games all the time if you're on dead legs at the end every time, that little bit of rest for the other guys is probably bigger for me than what Garland provides on the stat sheet.
Bucknell will be a tough game and they will have revenge on their mind, but I like the thought that our guards can prevent their offense from getting set up and that their defense probably isn't athletic enough to guard all 5 guys we can put on the floor. I'm quite confident that G will remind these guys that there will be a big bullseye on them in that game.

Ty Garland will be playing A LOT more than 10-12 minutes a game. I would assume up around 25 minutes a game (or close to that). He might ease in the first couple games but he will see A LOT of minutes this year. He is going to be an important part of our team this year. Gives us quickness and more offense. Can't wait to see him on the court.

Garland will give us another guard who can score breaking his man down. Our offense gets bogged down when Ramon is out of the game because other than Duren he is the only one that can break his man down.
DJ and Sam can't do that so when either guy goes out of the game we lose the additional space they create and DJ and Sam become less effective on offense.
I just think Garland may need a few game to get up to where he will eventually be within our offense once he is settled.

Where do Garland's minutes come from, do you think they come from Mills/DJ or a little less Tyreek/Ramon?
