Virginia beat GW by 17. GW scored 42 points. Not a good omen for the 'Splorers. Def not.. Suffocating defense G better get his hands dirty quickly and get involved with coaching on offense I am debating going to the games in Brooklyn, now with a change in Thanksgiving plans

We need to shoot the ball confidently against UVA. Straight line drives and dumps into the post do not work against that pack line D. There's not a D we match up worse against on paper. Hopefully Jordan Price gets hot from deep that day

Game was much closer then that score. I watched the game. It was close up until the last few minutes then it fell apart after a number of bad calls and Savage getting into foul trouble. There defense is just suffocated GW. It literally overwhelming to watch.
They are going to be tough. I don't see us having much of a shot but if we can grind out these next couple weeks, learn a lesson from Virginia, gel/grow offensively as a team we have a shot against Nova.
If anyone watched Temple which I know isn't A10 they are a real player in the AAC. Much much better team this year and when Bond 100%, Morgan and Coleman are eligible it will bring the team to another level.

URI over ranked Nebraska in OT.
Maybe all the hype about URI is going to come true. At least a solid OOC W for A10.

Saint Louis and SJU were destined for rebuilding years from the start. I am surprised Saint Louis is even 2-1.
I have to say we come out of this non conference slate in one piece things are looking much better. Dayton, UMass and URI look legit early. If they continue to do what they are supposed to having 6 chances to play potential NCAA teams is huge plus.
If Saint Louis, George Mason, Fordham and SJU are that bad it is a good thing we play them on the road.

If Saint Louis, George Mason, Fordham and SJU are that bad it is a good thing we play them on the road. Is a road win against a below-average team > a home win against an above-average team? I know Road wins in general are looked upon favorably by the selection committee, but I thought one thing that really helped us two years ago was that win @ VCU coupled with a string of road wins in general. Also, do road wins against any opponent have a big enough positive impact to offset a home loss against a quality opponent? Obviously road losses are the best kind of losses if you have to lose. The win @ Quinn, while not aesthetically pleasing may turn out to be a solid road victory if they can be a top 100 team.

We also had marque wins over Nova and Butler at home. Had a nice win over Iona who was close to a top 50 rpi that year. Lucky for us we play Temple and Virginia neutral court. Committee likes win like these. We get Villanova at home and play @ VCU. Out of these games I really only see us having a chance at beating Temple and Nova. Where it gets interesting is..... We have home and homes with URI, Dayton and UMass. So far they are looking good. That is 6 opportunities right. Plus we get GW and Richmond at home. Not all of these teams will be NCAA teams but quality wins nonetheless.

Starting to think the A-10's at-large bid picture isn't going to be so great this year.

Starting to think the A-10's at-large bid picture isn't going to be so great this year. I think it is still a little early to say that. VCU took a lead at the beginning of the first half, Jay Wright called a timeout and nova just settled in and shot the lights out. It took VCU out of their game entirely. VCU proceeded to try to go one on one and there was clearly frustration on their offensive end which resulted in bad shots. Nova was patient and took care of the ball and shot well. VCU did look good for the first 25 minutes or so, then totally collapsed.

Formula for beating VCU is pretty simple, it's the execution that's difficult.
Take care of the basketball, spread the floor, make the extra pass to the open man on the 3-pt line and make the shot.
VCU wins when they force TO's, get out in transition for easy buckets and get the opponent to start rushing bad shots. Nova shot like 70% in the 2nd half.
Indiana lost to Eastern Washington, at HOME - everyone has a tough night this time of year.

Nova is perfectly made to handle VCU. 4 guys on the floor at all times that can handle the basketball and sometimes all 5 guys. In addition, Nova is mentally tough. That Havoc psyche crap doesn't work against mentally tough teams.

That Havoc psyche crap doesn't work against mentally tough teams. This is why I like our chances against them this year. we may not be shooting lights out right now, but this team this year has shown me more mental toughness in three games than the team did all last season

Nova has far superior talent compared to us. They have skilled players on the floor. I like that we can put 4 guys on the floor against VCU but Nova can score the ball where we can't. VCU would be a solid to prohibitive favorite against us at their place.

Agreed. This Nova team is looking primed to get a high seed and favorable travel and advance past the first weekend.

This is very encouraging. But on that O end, missing open shots, lay ups and gimmes, hopefuly is just a slump or temporary jitters. Certainly this not a demonstration of mental toughness.

The game plan to beating VCU isn't really complicated. It is the reason we had gave them trouble the past two years. You have experienced guards who know how to handle the ball and limit turnovers.
VCU going to be fine. I just hope with the way UVA has been playing and how Nova played last night one of them has a little bit of an off night against us. Both look like legit top 10 teams but are bound to lose sometime.
If Nova wins tonight they will visit the Gola most likely ranked in the top ten.

It's too early for me to say one way or another in terms of favorites, we obviously won't be a favorite in the game, my comment was more in terms of the fact that the team's mindset and mental toughness is light years better than last year's squad. Whether or not we can make shots against them is anyone's guess right now, but what I'm not concerned about is our ability to handle their pressure or be rattled by their mantra. I don't want to hijack the thread, we can discuss more later.
