I am feeling a W over GW.
I know, it's not a given since they are 12-2 and we are 7-6, but I think we can take them Thursday. Here are some reasons:
1) I think Tyreek is feeling and shooting better. That is a big difference for us, but not the only thing.
2) I think G will give Tyrone more freedom to start and play. That is a good thing. IMO, he should be encouraged to drive, finish and dish, but discouraged from shooting 3s unless we have a solid lead. He is so good with the ball that he shouldn't feel the pressure to jack 3s - simply do what you do best and don't look back.
3) Our bigs are better. I know Armwood shut down Mc Dermott, but his game and Jerrell's are much different. I see Jerrell's strength and efficiency around the rim to be key factors. Zack should outplay Larsen. The key is not to let Mikic wander and snipe 3s. He cannot be left on the perimeter like so many bigs we played this year who had season best games. Same thing for Garino.
Here are some reasons why the GW record is deceiving/we should win
A) The away win at Creighton is huge, but GW appears to have played 9/14 games at home whereas we played 8/13 on the road. If the home numbers were flipped, or more in balance, the records would be closer IMO.
B) Gola is the opposite of the Smith Center. I can see Gola working as an advantage for us.
C) If G keeps rotating Mills, DJ and Lewis on Creek, we have a decent shot containing him. If we can do this and keep a lid on the perimter shooting beyond Creek (see 3 above), I like our chances to stifle their offensive flow.
D) Our guards should outplay their guards. The keys are (1) not to be tentative or stationary in half court sets, (2) advance the ball by passing more in transition, and (3) executing on C above.
Three other intangibles
1) Rohan has emerged as a solid player. He doens't need to score, just help with putbacks and everything else.
2) Sam should be able to free up and nail some 3s at Gola to relieve some of the scoring pressure.
3) Screamer being in the House.
Let's go Explorers!
