I couldn't help but notice while looking over the roster for this season an unfamiliar name, Hank Davis. This name hadn't been on any recruiting sites, nothing at all. Then I come to find that it's a happy 150 pound shaggy haired kid from Cherry Hill. I can't help but wonder if these kinds of walk-on's are put on the team simply for boosting the overall team GPA, AYP etc. I don't want to be mean, but clearly the kid is not a D-1 basketball player, and a rich white kid from Cherry Hill isn't there to help with team chemistry...so I was just wondering if this is really the case where kids are thrown onto teams just for their grades?

Team captain and MVP on a 17-8 Cherry Hill East squad last season. Between Dunn and Brown I don't think we need a ton of help with team GPA (not to mention I know for a FACT that coach has some pretty intense rules about individual grades). My guess is he's a high motor big effort kid who will help set the tone in practice.

Add Garland and Mills to the list of high-GPA kids, too.
Any prof type person I know who has had someone on the current team LOVES them. They all go to class and do their work and participate.

Plus, every college basketball team needs someone who looks like an Arcade Fire member.

Only scholarship players are included in team academic calculations... The kid can't help the team GPA etc. unless Dr. G gives him a scholarship... Maybe, just maybe the kid hustled his behind off and earned a spot on the roster...
Each student-athlete receiving athletically related financial aid earns one retention point for staying in school and one eligibility point for being academically eligible. A team’s total points are divided by points possible and then multiplied by one thousand to equal the team’s Academic Progress Rate score.

www.prodynamix.com/play_clip.php?fl_id=1191 There is a link to Hank Davis's recruiting video. He also had 35 points in one of Cherry Hill final games and facilitated them heavily on a 7 game winning streak. Honestly I don't think he looks bad whatsoever. He a quick kid that looks like a solid ball handler. His size is just an issue clearly. He probably not any type of significant impact player but give the kid a break. He clearly loves to play.

Congratulations to Hank on making the team. I hope you have a memorable year.

.. a rich white kid from Cherry Hill isn't there to help with team chemistry... Oh I forgot that every white person that attends Cherry Hill East is rich.. Thanks for clarifying that as I wasn't aware. I'll make sure to remind my buddy who was raised in a single parent home and graduated La Salle through the ROTC program, while working full time of that fact. I'm sure he just wanted to fulfill his commitment to the Army by serving two tours in Afghanistan so that he could brag to the fellas back at the country club over a scotch and a cigar..
