I am sorry to report the loss of our good friend JohnGlaser. Class of 62. He passed away yesterday in his sleep. Many of you know him as the candy man and he was a fixture at all the La Salle games (home and away) and explorer club events for the past few decades, and he hosted several bus trips with Pete. To him La Salle was like an extended family and he got to know many explorer fans over the years.
He was an ambassador for La Salle. The business school and basketball team were his favorite topics of conversation. With the help of the internet he downloaded a video link and used it to continue to follow the team everywhere such as on the sweet16 run when he could no longer travel. Before that came about I remember helping him string an antenna out the window so that he could hear Kale call the game vs. Connecticut. My favorite memory of John was when he stormed the court after the win over the hawks in 2008, a gesture he had been planning over and over for many down and out years with the rare belief that we would win each one of those games (up until the final buzzer, as long as we had some momentum going into the 4 minute mark).
John was looking forward to this coming season as he always does. Although he won't be able to see the way it plays out, he did leave La Salle with many gifts to ensure that our recent success would be sustained.
If anyone needs more info, should be in the paper this week, viewing Fri 7-9pm, mass is Saturday 10am, at LaSalle HighSchool.

Very sorry to hear this Hykos. Heard in August John wasn't doing well. Prayers go out to him and his family.
He was a true friend to the program and everyone who follows the program owes him a lot of gratitude.

Very, very sad news but thanks for sharing. John was a true supporter of La Salle and although maybe his opinions weren't always in line with the school's he was sure to make sure his position was understood.
Guys like him are one in a million

Although we knew it was coming it is still very sad to hear. John loved La Salle and was the consumnate fan. His financial support was outstanding. I don't know of anyone who did as much for the Men's Basketball Program. It brings a smile to remember him talking about how he used to tell G what type of offense and defense to use with the personnel at the time. RIP John.

I only knew him by his posts, which ended some time ago, but I knew he was influential when it came to the University. Didn't he coach hs ball at one time? I will miss him because of the love for LSU, which was always present as his signature indicated. I hope he has a front row seat in heaven.

Fitting and proper that he witnessed the recent NCAA run.

WOW! What a shame. I met John several times and always enjoy speaking with him. Big loss for the school and the program.

He was a great guy. I remember talking to him when we went through the hiring of Dunphy and he was so happy we got G instead. He really was devoted to LaSalle. I remember when Billy Hahn was hired and wanted this and that, John stepped up and built the offices and more for him. He wanted to win and see us back on top. RIP.

This is quite sad news indeed. God bless John and his family. This is a sad day for all La Salle fans as well. We should all be very thankful for what John has done for our beloved university.

RIP John. He was the most generous La Salle alum I've ever met and was part of a group of older alums who remained loyal to the program during the last two decades. A couple of those guys passed before the last two seasons so I'm glad John was able to enjoy the NIT and NCAA seasons.

Only knew him from here and as the video board guy, but terrible to hear. The school lost one of its best.

Sorry to hear the news. Only met John twice and was very impressed with his knowledge of the game and of La Salle basketball in particular. Did not know 4ever was sick but was wondering over past couple of years why he was not posting. He spoke his mind which I really liked about him. God bless John, his family and his extended family of La Salle.

One of a kind. I didn't meet John until 2002 when my interest was rekindled in the program with the hiring of a new coach. My last real conversation with John was when we were walking out of the Bob Carpenter Center in Dec of 2011? when La Salle lost to the Hens. Neither of us was very happy at the time.
One of my favorite memories of the Candyman was a bus trip to American (maybe in G's first year?). On the way down on the bus he was diagramming inbounds plays on a pizza box.
I tried to have a real conversation with John every time I saw him. Other than basketball our conversations centered on politics and the economy. I remember that he told me that back in the day his dad was the president of the Germantown Businessmen's Association and he got to meet La Salle players (including Gola) at one of their events. John was still a teenager and like many of that era thought Gola as God. (Man, I hope I am not putting too much pressure on God.)
In closing, "4ever has cred".

John was one person that you would never forget. I can remember first talking to him at a function in Roxborough. He was opinionated for sure, but you respected what he said. Who can forget all the candy he brought on the bus trips? He will be missed.
RIP

Had many a friendly disagreement over the years but I could never disagree with John Glaser's desire, willingness and means in supporting both his beloved La Salle High School and La Salle University. Heard he was very sick a few months ago. As stated by others, just wonderful his health was good enough to enjoy the last couple of years. He indeed should have a front row seat in Heaven to watch over his two schools.
My prayers and thoughts are with John and his family.
RIP

John was a great hoops fan and even better person. His generosity has done great things for this program, and also for the bus trips in the form of free candy! I haven't met too many people with his kind of wealth, but I guarantee there aren't too many who were as unassuming about it as he was.
I missed seeing him around Gola the last few years, due to both of our absences (for different reasons). I'm happy he lived to see last year's run, and hope he was able to enjoy it despite his health problems. Just think, the last La Salle win he ever saw was the SWPF. Not a bad memory to take with you into the hereafter.

Couldn't say anything that hasn't been already, but what a bummer.

Seems to me for all he has done for the program there should be a "moment of silence" at either the opener or at the Homecoming game. Anyone have a contact to suggest this?
