I have a feeling we won't see any November signings but would love to be surprised. The reality of the situation is the core of the 2014 recruiting class (Roberts, Price, Stukes, and Washington) is already enrolled and taking classes at La Salle. Weird knowing we're unlikely to be players in the November signing period, but with a core like that already at La Salle, it's a hell of a good problem to have.

Agreed. I don't know what to do with myself this recruiting period. Never seen anything like this while following this program.
Big kudos to G.

Did G promise Stukes that he was the future pt. here and that there would be no competition for the job? Lewis seems more than capable as a backup, but Shuler did make his remarks after Price made his commitment. Who's to say that Shuler himself thinks that he will impress enough that it would be hard to keep him off the court. To make a four guard system work alongside a traditional scheme, which is what we did last year, at least five, and possibly six interchangeable pieces are necessary. It's unlikely that Shuler could go to a BCS and be handed the point, so why is it inconceivable that he still likes the atmosphere that was present on his earlier visit? I wouldn't be too shocked to see Price play some pf if he has to. If Shuler wants to come and G assures him that he will be given every chance to earn minutes, what's the problem? I think that it's hard to get over the past and the manner in which we HAD to attract talent. Stukes sure looks taller than 6'2 in one of the earlier posts. If Lewis can transition to a 2 gd., why can't Stukes? As the saying goes, "speed kills" and we would have plenty on teams that we decide to go small on. Also, only Stukes and Shuler would be true freshmen in that class, leaving Roberts, Price and Washington as sophs. Spacing would not be a problem with scholarships. I'd love to get him, but it all comes down to what he feels is in his best interest.

Coaches may promise the world but if you don't produce on a tourney-bound team you will not get court time.
We have a solid defensive team to go along with a very efficient offense... everyone of our players made a strong effort to be well-conditioned for the upcoming season.

Temple is in deep but we will be very fortunate to land an uber athletic legit 6'10 PF/C.. who is only starting to understand and realize his basketball potential

I saw him early in the season last year. Raw as expected. Then I saw him at the palestra in PCL playoffs. He was more confidence and aggressive. As the game went on he actually started to dominate the boards. I liked that he worked on his FT shooting before the game and at halftime unlike Aaric Murray who just wanted to shoot 3's from Camden NJ. I think EA has some pride and the desire to get better every day. I will see him at least twice this season based on the HS schedules that are available right now. This is a kid who will love playing in the paint.

Since you've seen him play, would you say his development could take a similar track as Jerrell? Learning how to become a dominant force in the paint, with an aggressive edge to him? Obviously going to be more raw than JW, but still.

Obviously going to be more raw than JW, but still. I would say there a similarities but also differences. I didn't see JW until his JR year. He was more advanced offensively. EA is a rebounder, shotblocker and defender in that order. Offense right now is offensive put backs. JW had a back to the basket game and a little jumper. Both are very comfortable down low. I would say that EA is on course to become a physical force in the paint like Jerrell. Will be real interesting to see how much better he will be this December than last March. Big guys are funny. Holloway was an ideal candidate for G. Game was good but he would really benefit from a red shirt year. Holloway exploded during the Summer. Some guys progress (or regress)at a different speed. I think something clicked for EA during last season. I think he believes in his abilities now. Confidence is a wonderful thing. I originally thought he would be like Holloway. Redshirt a year. If we remain involved we might not have to take him as a red shirt. With him being a JR and Wright/Zack being Jr's, we could offer him immediate playing time.

A friend of mine ran in to Dr. G in Chicago the other night. Turns out he was there on business. Awesome. I can't do links from my Kindle Fire, but G was out at Illinois Wesleyan Univ doing a coaching clinic for the Illinois Basketball Coach's Assoc with Michigan's John Beilein and Illinois' John Groce (among others) yesterday and today. He's been able to get involved with some Chicago-area kids over the last couple of years so hopefully he'll be able to land one soon.

Terry Larrier chose VCU after having his pick of BCS suitors. #59 overall, #15 SF per ESPN. Shaka got in before the BCS schools started offering, and paid off this time.

A huge get for VCU and the conference. They continue to recruit well and for players that fit their style. They are positioned to be a top program in the conference for some time.

I'm the biggest homer of all, but VCU's recruiting is almost on a whole different level than La Salle. Two four star recruits (for whatever that's worth) on top of Larrier is mind-boggling. Worst part, all three of them are built for Shaka's Havoc bullcrap. Doesn't mean we won't compete, and fortunately G has found his own niché when it comes to recruiting, but VCU can be scary good.

We will see how it goes. The beautiful thing about college basketball is you never can tell how young kids develop and how they respond in the program they choose. G has gone for transfers with solid D-1 experience and upside as well as under-recruited high school kids he viewed to have potential. High school recruits are both hit and miss. On paper VCU's recruiting is terrific as you mention. How many people knew how good Jerrell and Tyreek were going to be? They turned out better than many kids rated higher than them in national recruiting. DJ Peterson was never a top recruit but he played a critical role on a Sweet 16 team. Steve Smith was not recruited by anyone except La Salle and turned out to be 2 time A-10 player of the year. Kevin Anderson from Richmond was also severly under-recruited and was POY. Smith didn't win and Anderson did despite both having great careers. Anderson was surrounded by other players while La Salle had trouble getting them for Steve. Building a winning program takes much more that getting highly acclaimed recruits but you can't win without them either. In other words, there are many ways to skin a cat in college basketball. Trust in G!!

Even though VCU is recruiting on a different level, what I do like is that G's roster is built to be able to compete with and even beat a team like that. Teams that can put four quality guards on the floor who can handle that pressure have a good chance against VCU. G has gone up against that system more than people realize. La Salle did their preseason closed scrimmages with VCU the first two years that Shaka coached there. And even with Duren, Mills and Garland graduating after this season, we'll still have plenty of D-1 backcourt experience on the roster for the next few years with DJ, Khalid, Cleon, Jordan and Amar who should be poised and talented enough to handle it even as a freshman.

By all rights, VCU should be everyone's second favorite team. They play a ridiculously entertaining style of play with a charismatic coach in the most underrated atmosphere in college hoops. They sold out their season tickets in a few hours this season. I love The Rams so much. I love having them as a conference rival.
They're going to keep on getting players. If Smart stays, they'll be in the Top 25 and a quality tournament seed nearly every single year. I really hope they stay in the A-10 and don't bolt for the evil incarnate that is the Big East conference.

By all rights, VCU should be everyone's second favorite team. While I'm not thrilled about all the conference realignment chaos that brought all the sudden changes, the A10 really lucked out by getting VCU. Not much to hate about them other than when we face them. They're really a great a thing for college basketball. Now to get off Shaka's nuts...

How many people knew how good Jerrell and Tyreek were going to be? All true, but these two were more highly pursued than most of our roster and considered huge gets at the time. 3-5 stars doesn't ensure future wins, but it does speak to recruiting success given that more stars almost always carry increased / higher conference offers. The 2 might outplay the 4, but if you're chasing both, the 4 is a bigger statement.
