I just watched the available Replay on ESPN+ of the ( 2 - 1 ) Lady Explorers 83 - 64 rout yesterday of Niagara up in Lewiston, NY. La Salle led by 25 - 30 points for most of the game.
Bad news: Jaye Haynes DNP and has her right arm in a sling.

Is Howard’s womens team better than I think? They lost to them in the opener.

Great win over Drexel today. Keishanna Washington is a stud- got in foul trouble and fouled out at the end which was a huge help. Kylie Levell had 31, as a freshman for Drexel- also looks great. This was a great game for the Explorers. Some stupid mistakes, a couple travels when they weren't under pressure or rushed at all, just careless. Spruill looked every bit the A10 POY that she was picked in the pre season. Interesting rotation- a lot of minutes spread around. Shears had some big threes and contributions across the board. Mascantonio got hurt in the first half- not sure of the status. This is a fun team to watch.

ESPN +'s audio problems every broadcast emanating from La Salle continue. The ESPN + broadcast team of Corey Cohen and Barry Kirsch were laughably bad. Kirsch absent-mindedly kept referring to the Drexel team and it's players as ' La Salle ' the entire first half until someone must have brought it to his attention at halftime.

I watched the game. It was good to get the win. BUT, they had 20 turnovers. By my recall there were at least six traveling calls, maybe more, and three failure to communicate. In most of the traveling they were unforced errors.

Kirsch also referred to Gabby Crawford as "Gabby Jacobs at the line." I would have auditioned but I didn't know they were accepting amateurs.

The women just lost to previously 1-5 Penn tonight at home. They do have some head scratching games which I don’t understand.

Lost to Nova, St. Joe, Northwestern, San Francisco and USC. Having said that the ladies had 17 turnovers in the first half and many unforced, just sloppy.

Roll call for the pivotal Hawks/Explorers rematch tomorrow! Who's ready for an upset? Gotta take this one away from them early, and try to gain a leg up on the competition. Go Explorers!

The Explorers are one of five Atlantic 10 teams to crack the top100 RPI, coming in this week at #92. (50-Rhode Island, 74-St Joe's, 79-UMass, 93-Richmond are the others.) The program is chasing its first postseason bid in 31 years, since 1992. www.realtimerpi.com/rpi_atl10_Women.html

Was really hoping for a double dip on Wednesday, but while the men over GW, the women lost down at VCU. So for pretty much the entire A10 season, it's been an either-or scenario. We can't bring out the brooms. They'll get another crack at VCU later in the season at home. Every game is crucial in the standings but tomorrow's game at home against UMass, is much anticipated because it's against the defending A10 champions, #2 in the conference behind only Rhode Island, currently. And last season, the match between La Salle and UMass was a COVID cancellation, so the last time these two squads played, at Amherst in 2021, La Salle came away with the wire-to-wire victory, 69-63. The precise difference in that game was K. Spruill who outdueled the conference player of the year, S. Breen, outscoring her counterpart 21-15, and holding her to just 4 of 17 shooting. Both stars are back this season as fifth year players. www.espn.com/womens-college-basketball/game?gameId=401264025

Note, Rhode Island is the only team that may be in at large conversation, however, a second bid for the A10 is possible if another team should win the A10 tourney. Also, currently 5 teams including La Salle, St Joe's, UMass, Richmond and Fordham are currently in the Projected WNIT field.
RPI update as of 2/3/23:
48-Rhode Island (9-0, 18-3) 71-UMass (8-1, 18-4) 73-Saint Joseph's (5-5, 15-7) 90-Richmond (3-5, 13-8) 105-Fordham (7-3, 14-8) 106-La Salle (5-3, 14-8) 130-Davidson (4-3, 11-10) 136-Duquesne (4-6, 13-9) 155-Foggy Bottom (7-3, 14-8) 209-VCU (4-5, 7-14) 216-Saint Louis (4-5, 8-16) 218-George Mason (4-6, 11-12) 264-Loyola Chicago (1-8, 6-16) 271-Dayton (3-7, 3-17) 286-St. Bonaventure (1-9, 4-21)

I probably got ahead of myself! In back to back losses, La Salle is shooting a combined 6 for 49 (12.2%) from three. UMass had three players hit double figures today. Need to change something up, and quick! Richmond on the road will be another challenge but, hopefully there may be some reprieve soon and they're going to get back on the winning track.

Not to mention :
La Salle's overall made FG % against VCU was 13 - 55 = 23.6 %
La Salle's overall made FG % against UMass was 15 - 60 = 25 %
VCU out-rebounded La Salle 45 to 33
UMass out-rebounded La Salle 45 to 33 ( i.e., no improvement by La Salle in next game on the schedule after VCU blow-out loss ).
VCU total bench points contribution ( i.e., scoring by other than the starting five ) compared to La Salle * : 12 vs 4
UMass total bench points contribution ( i.e., scoring by other than the starting five ) compared to La Salle * : 9 vs 4
* despite La Salle's continual mass 'hockey line changes' substitutions

Some injuries sustained, plus the emergence of Mia Jacobs as a leading scorer for the team, may have resulted in fewer line change substitutions than we saw most of last season. One thing I know, Coach Mountain loves to keep his fellow scout-ers guessing. He may be saving his best gameplans for March! After seeing the team rebound against St Joe's after initially falling to them, I'm hoping the second time around with VCU will go much better, too.
I didn't want to jinx it, but still thinking the Explorers could make a deep run in the WNIT. Against competition they've tended to be a better version of themselves, especially on a recent five- game win streak. What say you? The battle @richmond tonight, followed by Fordham mid week, will be a barometer of which direction the season may be headed.

I knew not being able to sign Chrissie Donahue's daughter was going to be a kick in the pants. Women are down 9 with just over 2 minutes left in Richmond. Maggie Doogan has 18 and 7
