Awesome. FIRST TEAM ALL-AMERICAN.
They take the top two in the three heats and the two next fastest times. He finished third in his heat. I think he broke his recent school record. His time beat the top three finishers in the third heat.
Now he runs Friday night.

Chris ran a great race! Congrats to him. Making the finals will give him 1st Team All American status I believe. He will also qualify for the Olympic trials. If any one has any extra cash please consider donating to Chris's trip to the Olympic trials. Please see letter from La Salle's track coach below.
Dear Explorer,
I hope this message finds you well and enjoying the beginning of the summer. As I write I am in Eugene, Ore., preparing Chris Sanders for the NCAA semifinals tonight. Chris’ journey to Eugene began a week ago in Jacksonville, Fla., where he ran a school-record 1:46.65 in the 800m to move on to the next round. In doing so his time will get him into the U.S. Olympic Trials back here in Eugene from June 29 to July 5.
The University and the track and field program are 100 percent committed to bringing Chris to trials to compete against the best athletes in the country and represent the Explorers, bringing the La Salle University name to another national stage—one with global implications.
As this event will not fall inside the NCAA competition window, the costs incurred will fall solely on our Restricted Funds Account (Donated Money). After flights, lodging, ground transportation, meals, and related costs are figured in, taking Chris to the Trials will amount to over $5,000 in expenses.
Thanks to the generosity of the entire alumni body throughout the fiscal year, we currently have the money available to make this trip happen for Chris.
As coaches and administrators that rely on the generosity of folks like yourselves, we are always looking for ways to illustrate specifically how your support is making a difference.
This is one of those unique chances to do so. While your past generosity has provided us with the funds to make this happen, we will need to recoup those funds through donations in order to help more students like Chris to compete at the level we have planned for next season.
I do believe this is a great opportunity for each of you to see a direct impact from the gifts that you make. This opportunity will represent a turning point in Chris’ career. This will not be his last Olympic Trials, but it will be his only trials in a La Salle uniform. We welcome any additional efforts from those most avid supporters in helping to make this an unforgettable experience for your fellow Explorer.
Make your gift directly to the track and field/cross country program at lasalle.edu/explorerfund.
Thank you for supporting the dreams and talents of all our student-athletes.
Never Stop Exploring!
Tom Peterson Head Coach, Cross Country and Track

His time beat the top three finishers in the third heat. Now he runs Friday night. That was unbelievable. Chris looked like he was going to finish 4th or 5th with around 30 yards to go and just put on that burst and did a perfectly timed lunge at the finish line. Awesome is right ! Congrats to Chris.

Awesome race. Was talking to some former teammates and we don't think we could have run that fast with rest in between each 200m, and we were pretty good ourselves.
Truly a talent.

Very cool. La Salle cross country/track and field continues to be great. Also, that is exactly how you should write a letter asking for donations. The letter explains the situation perfectly and shows that even small donations can have a big impact.

I'm just glad somebody finally addressed the letter about donations that doctafeelgood posted above. The silence in the interim there was speaking volumes.

Not because of the letter (I actually didn't really like the letter, or the email address "Name" that it came from), but because after watching him run last night I felt some of the pride I used to feel when I ran or watched my teammates run. Small amount that should pay for a meal or two in Eugene. First time I've given in a couple years.

So is the Strategy tomorrow to just take the race out hard and try and hold on? I mean he's seeded 8th, can't do any worse, so why not get out there early and see what happens?

In a way, I wish their was a Go Fund Me like page to see how the donations are going and create some excitement. Congrats to Coach Peterson also. First a great job this season in his second year as Head Coach with Chris, Morgan and the teams. Second, excellent letter. Agreed he clearly defined everything.

The guy with the lead time, he coasted through 1:45 and change leading wire to wire. If I'm the field (or even Chris), I'm having that first 200m go out in 30s. Make it a 500 or 600m race with a jog to start. Doing that makes it more about guts and speed, less about ability. I've run both ways, from the front and behind, but if you cannot beat the frontrunner, you have to make him uncomfortable. Not rough him up, but just make him chop his stride...work for space. That's what I'd do.

Race was lightning. Winner ran 2nd fastest world time (As a frosh...19 year old). Chris finished 6th in 1:47 and change. Made a move at 650m but could not maintain the fast pace. Fantastic season and he'll be at Olympic Trials. @cssmooth on twitter if you want to congratulate.

We are so proud of him. You did good Chris. Ran faster than his seed. 50 year record held by the great Jim Ryun.

Did anyone see any articles either in the newspapers or media on Sanders or any of the local athletes who participated in NCAA's?

Getting to write this a bit late. My family and I watched the race by stopping off n the way to the shore for the weekend. Chris ran a good race. Pace was obviously very fast. Although he ran below his PR, he did look very strong. I am very happy for him and the La Salle running community. Best of luck int he Olympic trials.
To answer the above, I did not see anything in any media. I just Goggled it and still found very little. Sad.

Thank you. I just looked at my Saturday edition and it was not there but I had a wonderful write-up on South Jersey Baseball and Softball State Finals. Only problem is that I live in PA.

Well that's because NJ is the center of the universe. I can say that with authority since I was born and raised here.

Congrats Chris. You did well and represented yourself and La Salle quite well. I loved the Explorer Telescope before you ran the race. Good luck and enjoy the Summer.
