As noted in the article, the hardest part will be getting Radnor residents to agree to the expansion. Nova has a bunch of construction ongoing right now anyway. I believe this will get done, but maybe not for a couple years.

I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't hear about it by the start of next season though.

It seems like multiple times a year I read that Villanova gets these multi million donations. Drexel too. Even more hard to swallow when the philanthropist is not really connected to the school. I guess we'll have to continue to accept donations from this guy...

This donation is from a hedge fund guy (I make no judgments). If I was Nova, I'd do some digging. Last time they accepted a donation in this area, well things went a little crazy.

Township still needs to approve increasing capacity there and I'm not 100% sure they will get it. But Jesus, $22.6 Million would get us all we need, maybe if they can't get approval he will send it our way.

What's wrong with military tanks in a residential area, some murder, lots of money, Olympic wrestling, all sprinkled in with occassionally driving cars into lakes and a healthy serving of mental illness?! Sounds like a winning recipe to me! But seriously. It might be worth it for a new arena. We got anyone fitting that bill? Edit: Could never work. Too many folks would freak out if we added a wrestling team. Nevermind, abandon your search. "HOW ABOUT YOU CUT CRAPPY SPORTS AND STUPID TITLE IX ISN'T IMPORTANT AND WHY DO WE HAVE WATER POLO AGAIN?!"

Typical frontrunner announcing after they win. This same gentleman endowed Jay's salary a few years ago They are looking to add 3 luxury boxes. Capacity may actually decrease a little I think they are just going to gut the inside so they won't need Radnor approval.

Waiting for the inevitable post on Crossing Broad of "For some reason, Philly people who went to schools other than Villanova can’t objectively be happy for Villanova getting a $22M donation for their basketball facility because they don’t like the fact that Villanova students are generally wealthier than the students and alumni from other city schools."

Let's not forget they had to remove that duPont dude's name from their Pavilion also!

I like this reference. Good recollection you got there. Well, you weren't right. But you got the pompous attitude correct - from Crossing Broad: Now, allow me to tweak Temple folks for a second: This is how you capitalize on success and improve your facilities. You win the National Championship and create so much demand for your team that a rich guy is essentially compelled to do it for you. What you don’t do is float the idea of a $100 million North Philly stadium for a team the crept into the top 25 and then proceeded to lose four of its last seven games and can’t even fill its beautiful basketball arena in the same less-than-desirable area for Philly sports to take a weekend venture. I’m… just being honest don’t hate me.

I love the code words for our and Temple's campuses you always see from guys like this and St. Joe's fans. Because let's be honest "less than desirable area" really means "I see a lot of black people when I drive through that area"

I find Villanova to be a "less-than-desirable area for Philly sports to take a weekend venture" for the following reasons:
(a) Not in Philly (b) Have you ever tried to drive through Villanova's campus during rush hour? What makes it more desirable to "venture"?
By the way last time I checked Villanova isn't in FBS like Temple. I hate Temple and here I am - pseudo-defending them.

It's because Temple could win the next five national titles in both sports and Villanova could remove their seats behind the baskets and we'd still have 100x more in common with Temple.

Wow, I really liked that article. Not being from the area, it seemed accurate to me, but curious to know what others thought.
I've always said, with regards to the "house-pissers" types he describes, those are everywhere, but the media loves playing them up in certain places, Philly being at the top of the list. But the strike against the "Philly culture" in my mind at least, is the normal people, who would never actually consider throwing a guy in a Troy Aikman jersey down a flight of stairs, who cheer it when it happens, or at least give it a "Hey, welcome to Philly" instead of saying "This makes us all look like provincial neandrathal assholes."

It's so easy to kick Philly. It doesn't have the "Big Apple" mystique or the trendiness of LA or the midwest charm of Chicago. That said, I think people from New York are obnoxious, LA is just a bunch of wannabe transplants and Chicago, actually Chicago is alright in my book. Their mayor is a dick though. The thing I love about Philadelphia is that we are unapologetically real. While you are right, and the "Welcome to Philly" mantra is terrible...I don't know where else in the country you'll find a city so rich with history, so vibrant in both culture and nightlife....without the expensive, douchebagginess that comes with NYC.
