We do not have big man depth-at least not proven and Yevgen is said to be the real deal.I am so tired of worrying about some year 3 years from now,

From what I've read on the internet Yevgen is neither a 3 pt. threat or a good free throw shooter. He does his damage in the post area. Hopefully, he can improve. We appear lucky to have him though.

Boy oh boy do some have short memories. I guess that's what happens after a sweet 16 run. When was the last time LaSalle had two real big men as good as Jerrell and Zach at the same time? Throw in Washington who I understands is much improved, that is 3 real big men. Have we EVER had three real big men on the squad? Not since the Lionel days and I'm not sure we even had three then. As I said, this team has depth. We don't know how they will all mesh and how many close games we will win, but let's keep things in perspective. This year's team has legitimate depth across the board. Are we a tournament team? only time will tell.

That's kind of the point: We're a borderline tourney team that can only benefit from another skilled player on the roster.

Well he is now redshirting no matter what and not even up to coaching staff anymore so can keep the second guessers at bay. We go 10 players deep with no weak links. Again, not sure when we have been this deep. This is LaSalle and not Kansas.

Agreed. The question I have is how well all this depth is managed. I'd hate to see the guy with the hot hand in any aspect of the game come out because we have so many pieces. Players need rest. I'm just hoping we sub in a thoughtful manner. In that way of thinking, it could be G's most challenging year to date as a coach.

A number of players would need to emerge for that to be the case. Brown, Lewis and Petersen need to take a step forward for that to be the case. Shuler and Stukes need to be as good as they are being hyped and Washington needs to be a real asset in providing some help to Zack and Wright. This is all unproven stuff here. While I think a number of those things may end up unfolding to say all of them will is pushing it.

I think Hideaway is pretty accurate, but a guy like Lewis has a lot to prove; not only offensively, but at the defensive end. He can't keep his hands off people and that has resulted in a foul every 7 minutes. I definitely think that he's not in the top ten unless he proves he can shoot and cut the fouls. Davis and Peterson have to show more than last year as well. Peterson seems to feed off others. If they knock the three pointer down, he seems to shoot much better, but he took a major step backwards last year imo.

I think a more realistic expectation for the team this year should be to try to be over .500. I don't think I agree with the "borderline tournament" quotes on here. We would need a lot to fall into place for that to even come close to happening.

a10champion, how long have you been a LaSalle fan? As a small D1 school or a mid major at best, I would say we are very deep with no weak links. Again, I am not comparing us to BCS type programs. I compare ourselves to past LaSalle programs. If some combination of Shuler, Peterson, Washington or Brown, depending on who performs the best, are my players 9 &10, than I would say we are in excellent shape for a LaSalle team. When I say no weak links, I am not saying certain players are great. I am saying they aren't going to hurt you on the court. And I am confident that none of the players you mention will hurt you on the court. Rome wasn't built in a day and the fact that I can honestly say in 20 years that I have 10 players where I believe none of them will hurt us on the court when they play their particular role, then I am very excited to be able to say that. I can honestly say I haven't been able to say that as a LaSalle fan since the Lionel years. Almost every team has had multiple D2 type players on the squad that would invariably find there way onto the court due to a lack of depth. We now have all 10 of the players who will play this year that are real D1 players and I will go so far as to say they are a10 quality. A few might be 10 minutes a game type players but I truly believe they won't HURT you on the court. If you can point to a LaSalle team in the last 20 years where the #10 player was as good as any one of the players that you mention, please name the LaSalle team.

I have no idea who is actually going to be a star on this team or not. We might win 15 games or 20. I have no idea and neither does anyone including the coaching staff. We have a lot of depth but wins in this league are tough to call when most games are a dogfight. Davis will not play a minute. He is not in the 10.

If you can point to a LaSalle team in the last 20 years where the #10 player was as good as any one of the players that you mention, please name the LaSalle team. Okay, well if you really want to know I am born and raised in Philly. I graduated from La Salle 3..4 years ago now. Both my parents graduated from La Salle and a number of my relatives graduated from La Salle. I been following this program for as long time as I can remember. However, its not nearly as long as some of the old heads on this board hopefully no one takes that as an insult. Oh and never spell it LaSalle it's La Salle. Probably a simple mistake but I and many others find that super irritating. This issue we have here is I don't see La Salle or the A10 in general as a mid major conference or program. That is not to say the A10 is the ACC or La Salle's program is no different than Temple's but when I compare La Salle's current roster I don't compare it to the MAAC, I compare it to the A10, AAC, MVC and the Mountain West. The roster doesn't blow me away nor does anything scream we have depth compared to the rest of the conference. They're are a couple players on our roster that perhaps should be in the CAA or MAAC but were making it work. However, I do think overall on paper this is G's most talented roster to date. Washington could hurt us on the court and I haven't heard anything that really impressed me. Shuler and Stukes could be prone to turn the ball over just simply because they are freshmen with limited experience. Brown has potential but I only seen flashes of it most recently against VCU. Petersen should be a better player this year and so should Lewis. Another thing is your right I really can't think of a La Salle team that was 10 players deep. However, I can't think of many A10 teams that played 10 players deep besides Dayton this year and they were such an odd team all season long. The A10 has success with experienced rosters that rely on juniors and seniors who develop nicely such as Saint Louis's team over the past several years, VCU always has critical senior leadership and UMass's Chaz Williams. Most A10 teams usually have 7 or 8 players involved in the rotation with a couple players getting garbage minutes. La Salle is in a much different landscape than it was 10 years ago and so is the entire league. It simply just isn't fair to compare La Salle's team to how it was say 5 or 6 years ago. While La Salle has improved so has the entire conference and so have the standards. I am really onboard with the potential this team has and I love the optimism. G filled the holes on his roster nicely which is something I particularly look for. I was really hoping Sahkniuk was going to play but that clearly isn't the case as it stands. The critical things for me regarding this team are this. 1) Stukes and Shuler need to be efficient at the point, limit turnovers, make outside shots and create another dimension to the offense. 2) Lewis and Petersen need to step their game up offensively. My concerns for Price and Roberts are limited because I think they are the real deal. 3) If Zack and Wright are going to play together Zack can't be afraid to shoot thats the only way to extend the defense with those two on the court. This played a role in why the team struggled offensively last year. If those things fall in place will have a strong team with 20+ wins if not around a .500 season.

This is an NCAA rule saying a player is ineligible NOW.

Jellybean is correct. Originally they thought they were going to get three years in four years for Yevgen and the plan was to redshirt him. His strong play was making the staff consider having him or Shuler play this year. Again good news because both these guys look pretty good in the offseason. The NCAA made no decision necessary as he is in eligible this year. But he does get 3 years of eligibility so back to the original plan.

If NCAA says Y cannot play this year, then that's it. I thought that bridge had been crossed. My only concern was that he be on team, if eligible. Summing up the Board it seems that everybody has a good point. We could be 10 deep but a number of guys have to play better and/or live up to potential to be there.

Have to disagree with some regarding 10 player deep statements. Yvegen not playing this season is probably a good thing because with Zack, Wright and Washington we have the 4-5 positions covered. It is very important that Washington gets 12-15 minutes a game for next season when he will have to play much more. If Yvegen played this season he would have cut into Washington's minutes big time. Doesn't matter now that NCAA made the decision. Back to 10 deep I see only 4 players at this time who I really believe in and they are Zack, Wright, Roberts and Price. Shuler (who I think will become a very good A10 player), Stukes and Washington are unknowns, Lewis, Brown and Peterson based on last season overall are marginal A10 players and Davis is a short minutes guy who must improve or will play sparingly.

More or less co-sign, except maybe I like Brown's contributions and Lewis' potential a bit more.

I love DJ. He was in a shooting slump last season, but the whole team was. He knows how to play defense. He uses his length really well. This is important since we switch so much on defense and he can guard both guards on the outside and hold his own on the blocks. He also never holds the ball -- he gets it and either shoots or passes.
We really don't appreciate him enough.

I am anxious to see what Tony Washington brings and hopeful particularly on the defensive end. I hope he brings mobility as well as height (shot blocking ability). I like our big’s (particularly what each is offensively capable of) but felt that our interior D when these guys were played together last year in particular was a weakness. Seems to me that offenses frequently exploited our bigs’ lack of mobility. I am disappointed that the Ukrainian kid is not joining the squad this year as he also could lend a hand in this regard.

I agree I don't think were ten players deep. Also, even though that would be nice do you even have the confidence in G to manage a game with ten players. I like G but he isn't the best X and O coach.
That's the thing for me with Tony Washington is if he is good defensively and thats what he excels at he be a great asset to Zack in particular. Zack has to shoot for that to be that case though. We were a decent defensive team last year and we lose are biggest liability in Garland. I really do hope he can bring some valuable depth to the front court. I am skeptical though but I bet he worked hard over the past year in order to be ready. I heard he put on some muscle which is good to here as well.
I think if anyone going to surprise from the returning players this season it is going to be DJ or Lewis. I heard some really positive stuff around them and DJ just being a senior isn't the only reason he is starting coming this season. I do think Roberts and him will rotate though as the season progresses. I know the numbers don't look great from last year but his turnover to assist ratio was lights out the year before. If Roberts, Price and Zack can really extend the defense this will help DJ and Lewis significantly. Also, I think people underestimated the severity of Lewis injuries from last year.
If we have a rotation of 8 players which would be in my mind Price, Roberts, DJ, Lewis, Stukes, Shuler, Wright and Zack. Plus get some time from Washington and I wouldn't completely give up on Rohan yet either that's looking like a nice rotation. You have both a clear offensive and defensive oriented line up.

Offensive oriented line up--for this to be the case Price, Roberts and Shuler/Stukes have to be as good as they are being hyped and Zack has to have developed a shot.
3G line up Price, Roberts, Stukes/Shuler, Wright and Zack or 4G line up Price, Roberts, Stukes/Shuler, Petersen and Wright
Defensive oriented line up--For this to be the case Roberts has to be the all around solid player both defensively and offensively. Washington needs to be a defensive aggressive shot blocker he was recruited to be.
3G Roberts, Lewis, Petersen, Wright and Zack or 4G Roberts, Lewis, Petersen, Price and Zack

I don't even know if we will have a ten man rotation (most teams don't) but that is exactly my point. Even the 10th best player is a decent division 1 player that won't hurt you for a few minutes. On this team, that 10th player might be Rohan Brown and you can't tell me he hurts you on the court. Again, this team will be a mystery as to how many wins we can get until they play a few games and how long the actual rotation will be by the end of the year but there is at least decent talent level down to the 10th man on the team.

Bottom line we just don't know what were going to get out of Stukes, Shuler, Lewis, Petersen, Washington and Brown this season. While I like to stay positive I have to be realistic as well and I know at least two of those players are going to disappoint which ones I have no idea. If I had to guess I don't think were going to get much out of Brown and Washington this season. I also think were going to be playing a 4G line up much more often than not.
