New Penn AD desires more Big 5 games to be played at Palestra... "Director Calhoun as well as Provost Vincent Price also expressed sentiments about bringing the Big 5 back to the Palestra. Calhoun mentioned she had a good relationship with the athletic directors of the other Big 5 universities, including Dom DiJulia of Saint Joseph’s. DiJulia and Hawks head coach Phil Martelli have been long time champions of the idea of Big 5 games being played exclusively back at the Palestra." I disagree with the Martelli part. philahoops.com/penn/4034/penn-welcomes-new-ad-calhoun

Phil has apparently saved his job (thanks to Earl Walton, Wally Rutecki, and Brent Hampton, who collectively swallowed their whistles at the end of the A10 quarterfinal game against Dayton) so maybe he'll "champion" this cause again. www.gifdsports.com/2014/03/langston-galloway-no-call-for-push-off.html

Joe, that line about Martelli and DiJulia championing Big 5 matchups at the Palestra surely is sarcasm, no?

Joe, that line about Martelli and DiJulia championing Big 5 matchups at the Palestra surely is sarcasm, no? That article was written by Adam Booth, who based on his Twitter page, is a St Joe's (PA) guy. He obviously believes the propaganda spewn out by Phil and the Joey Brackets spin machine. Hey, if you write it enough, somebody is bound to believe it.

Hey, if you write it enough, somebody is bound to believe it. Yeah I figured as much, but I guess I had unrealistic hopes that it'd be more subjective. I just think that's one of the most narrow-sighted lines on Big 5 hoops I've ever read. It's generally tough to believe, even calling Hawk Hill home.

What will Phil do next year with even fewer players?
