Trying to remember, and too lazy to look it up. When are the Explorers eligible for another international trip? S
Seems to me like basically bringing in a whole new team to mesh with established guys used to a certain style of play would see a good benefit in playing some games together over the summer before it "matters"

I'm pretty sure the rule is still once every four years. If that's still the case, La Salle can't do one until prior to the 2015-16 season. They did a Canada trip before the 2011-12 season.

Not being facetious, but is Canada considered an international trip. Thought we played a home and home exhibition or two. If it is so considered, whose idea was it? Bad idea. An int. trip should be a big recruiting point-nothing against Canada-been there and loved it- but what would such a trip do for program? It aint Paris!

Once you cross a border into another country, it's an international trip. If it's such a bad idea, why have teams like Louisville, Wisconsin, Villanova, St Louis, etc. also done this Canada trip in recent years? They are typically funded by booster donations so unless you have someone with extremely deep pockets looking to foot the bill, it can be a challenge to come up with the money. I believe John Glaser footed the bill for the Canada trip prior to the 2007-8 season and a different generous booster who I won't name because he probably wouldn't want me to covered most or all of the cost of the latest trip. The purpose of these trips is to get the team 4-6 games and an early start to practice so they can hit the ground running come October. Who cares if it's in Europe or Canada. It's to help the team improve. Sightseeing is secondary.

Did we play 4-6 games in Canada? The other schools u mentioned do not need the recruiting push that we do. All I am saying, is that if a trip to Canada takes u out for 4 years, I think it is legitimate to wonder if its worth it. I think recruits would care if it was Canada or Europe. Didn't St Joe and Temple recently go to Europe? If its Canada or nothing, I understand, but I also recall us going to Japan and that kind of trip would give G some juice.

I don't mean this glibly, so please don't take it as that, but do we have the money for that kind of trip?

Did we play 4-6 games in Canada? La Salle played 4 games in Canada on both the 2006 and 2011 trips. Some teams decide to stay longer and play more games. I believe Duquesne played 6 games there before last season. www.goexplorers.com/news/2006/9/4/090406aaa_493.aspx?path=mbballwww.goexplorers.com/news/2011/8/4/MBB_0804112758.aspx?path=mbballThe other schools u mentioned do not need the recruiting push that we do. I don't believe these trips are planned out that far ahead to use as a recruiting tool, but you'd have to ask the coaching staff that question. I think they'd tell you these trips are more about preparing teams for the upcoming season than a sales pitch to recruits. Didn't St Joe and Temple recently go to Europe? Yes, they went before this season. It was St Joe's men's basketball first foreign trip since 1999. It was Temple men's basketball first ever foreign trip. If its Canada or nothing, I understand, but I also recall us going to Japan and that kind of trip would give G some juice. La Salle went to Japan as part of an 4 team, in-season tournament, beating Baylor and Idaho for the championship. The tournament promoters covered the cost of that trip. These trips aren't cheap, especially if you go overseas. It took St Joe's thirteen years to follow-up their 1999 trip. IMO, I'd rather La Salle continue with the Canada trips every 4-5 years and get the big ticket donors to contribute for something more worthwhile.

I recall now- went to Japan around Christmas. I understand your point and appreciate those who put up money to go to Canada. Will keep hoping for Europe. You never know!
