We can win a close one in Richmond. The key will be how well G prepares for and subs in the game.
Matchups may be in our favor. This hasn't been the case in many recent games.
Their guards appear to be on the small side - that may be a plus if we have an edge with length. The key is for Sam and Lewis to maintain Anthony, who cannot be left any space to get the ball or create a shot.
I would match Jerrell on Ododa and have him stay vertical. He does not have to press to play D and should not be making great efforts to "stop" this guy since he rebounds and blocks well but is not a huge scoring threat. Jerrell needs to do a better job getting physical on the box outs since that is an area of need and he should not be whistled for box-outs. If he gets better position, it should cut down on the putback fouls, which are an issue for Jerrell.
I'd put Zack on Allen. He is an up and coming player and requires attention. Zack has better length and could block shots as long as he stays close.
The three position is a bit of a weak link for us, as always since we do not have a true position 3 player. DJ, Lewis and Rohan need to cover Davis and Taylor. I worry about lack of prep and focus allowing their 3s to have a break out game. Can't let that happen.
Jones is a good sub who can get hot.
I hope Dunn gets some early time and make a 3. We need some long ball to extend the D. I'd go there early, at the 15 minute mark, when we typically descend into our scoring drought.
I also worry about the coaching mismatch. Mooney runs a great offense and I worry about back cuts and movement off ball. Our guys really need to stay with their man. When they try to double, they typically get burnt with a dish and easy layup. I hope we don't throw the zone out -- the spacing was terrible as the three perimeter guys were way too close and left the wings wide open for 3s, which hurt.
We need to play hard D and sub often. Need to go deep with 9 - they only play 7. Again, Dunn needs time.
If the foregoing can happen, we can pull out a win. If it doesn't, frustration and "insanity" will rule the day again.
Let's go team. You really can do it!
