Saint Louis sneaking into the AP Top 25, snagging the 24 spot. On the USA Today side, they missed out by just a handful of votes with GW and VCU receiving votes. UMass still holding down the fort. espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/rankings

@jonrothstein: La Salle is slowly gaining traction in the A 10. Explorers have won 6 of 8. Getting terrific defense in reserve from Khalid Lewis.

I can't say I am a little intimated by SLU. They are most likely going to be ranked much higher when we play them. Only losses are to Wisconsin and Wichita State. I think they will win the A10. UMass hasn't been playing particularly well and I honestly think we match up really nicely against them. They also don't have the biggest home court advantage. I was saying the same thing about Khalid Lewis, he is an awesome defender wish he was more of an offensive threat. I think our defense is improved all around this year. Entire team finally playing D.

Yeah was thinking the same thing. Maybe we can catch lightning in a bottle like they did last year too.

Our best player had an injury that cost him quickness and balance. That injury appears to be a lot better. I think with a healthy TD3 we have the best guards in the A-10. I also think we might have the best front-court. Teams heavy with wing players with height can kill us. I don't know what St. Louis has but they typically had guys like that.
But, yeah -- this season is far from over. Once we got healthy it was just a matter of time. Bring on URI. I think we crush them. And then on to one of the best regular season atmospheres we'll ever see.

And then on to one of the best regular season atmospheres we'll ever see. St. Louis plays arguably the best defense in the country (2nd fewest adjusted points per possession allowed in the country per KenPom, trailing only Ohio State). Kwamain Mitchell, who killed us for what seemed like a decade, is finally gone as is Cody Ellis, who was their blue-haired 3-point bomber. Still, I think Dwayne Evans is the best player in the conference and is a guy we have no good matchup for (6-5, 230 lbs with inside/outside game). Their offense is pretty average, but they've got physical defenders all over the floor. Their guard Jordair Jett is built like a linebacker and really bullied our guards last season.

I wanted to never be reminded of how bad Mitchell and Ellis owned us. Dreaded that team when they were good and bad.

I swear that Mitchell and Monte Mack from UMass back in the day were in college for about 7 years...

SLU scares me...a lot. I think they're better than they were last year. I've seen a few of their games this year, they're good. They have two bigs (Loe & Manning, both 7 footers I believe) that can block shots. We'll really have to be hitting from the perimeter if we want to win that game. The UMass game could go either way. They're playing at Amherst, so that gives UMass an advantage; however, both SJU and SBU have shown that they can be beaten at home (even though both lost).

I think that we have the defensive prescription for a team like St louis now. Jordair jett being a wildcard, Rohan, Lewis and peterson can all pressure evans and their top rebounders are all under 6'6". That being said, I see this being a really important game for Rohan to step up. He has really started to come into form in the past few games and if we can get him and wright playing well in the same game we will have a great matchup. last year we went 2-15 from 3. That won't fly this year either.
If we are 8-2 in conference after this game, I will be thoroughly impressed with this teams turnaround and think they will start to get some consideration for post season play.

This is a much improved team with a smart head coach that is looking for their first win in the conference. Hopefully, our players and coaches are not like our posters and are focused Wednesday. This will be a lot closer than most expect. I can see us winning by single digits in a game we have to make a comeback in.

I really don't think anyone is looking past Rhody. I certainly am not. This conference is vastly improved and all of these games are going to be a battle. The league this year is going to be a slog. If we don't bring a good effort on both ends of the floor on any given night, we will end up with an L.

Today's Inquirer 1/15/2014-
Despite our early struggles it is intersting to see how both the fans and the INQ staff see us as the 2nd best team in the city, per this City 6 Report appearing today. Very shoddy work by the Inq not including our Sunday victory in the record reported in the standings. I guess it would have had somebody have to break too much of a sweat to update the standings?
I could not find an available link.

Not true media, but not sure where to put it. Fordham is advertising their tickets on WFAN and La Salle is one of the teams mentioned as visiting. Which is both not a big deal and something I never would have expected 5 years ago unless they were buying enough time to list every single opponent.

G's been quoted a few times as saying he didn't want to "politicize" but he would move any home-and-home series to The Palestra.
A shot across the bow to the Hawks?

@jonrothstein: La Salle's Tyreek Duren is averaging 17.0 PPG and 4.3 APG in three Atlantic 10 games. Explorers have won 4 straight and face Temple today.

@espnandykatz: LaSalle doesn't have the non-conference resume for a bid but now must be taken seriously for A-10 title chase (lean SLU/UMass).
