While the team is in the islands, and don't we all wish we could be there, CSN and the Comcast Network are gonna make us smile more than a few times in the coming weeks. They are re-playing the Ole Miss game. First time is 11 pm Friday night right after first game in the islands ends ... www.goexplorers.com/news/2013/11/20/MBB_1120131154.aspx?path=mbball

Everyone DVR that game so you can remind yourself that our program can do this. I think G should have the team watch all the tourney games. We played tenacious D and looked to score. Seems like we are hesitant right now on offense. Maybe a trip out if the country will spark us. I have settled down now and will just take it one game at a time. I went from wanting to be top 25 and returning to the NCAA tourney to just taking it game by game and hoping to see us improve. I want the seniors to go out on Top. They deserve it.

I watched this game at an airport by myself. It's nice to watch it again on my own tv!

We can always be proud that we are a winning program in the history of the NCAA. We are not the Phillies or Cubs of MLB. We have a NCAA Championship and NIT Championship. We had the magical NIT run in 1987. We had last years run to the Sweet 16 (something coaches like Fran Dunphy will never experience).
Some how, some way I still believe these guys (coaches and players) will figure out how to play as a confident, cohesive unit. Mills needs to step up. Peterson needs to step up. Khalid Lewis needs to be injury free and focused.

I never understood the Dunphy hate, outside of the fact that we recruit against him and play against his team as a hyper local rival. Or am I misinterpreting and your just saying that he has a horrible record in tournament play?

I do wish G would make them re-watch this game for two reasons - 1) Ole Miss only scored 7 points in the final 5 minutes of the game, and none over the final 1:58 of game time. DEFENSE!!! 2) Ramon scored his last point with more than 10:30 to go in the game (that's gameclock time, not real time). They can survive without his points. EDIT - reading the play-by-play his final bucket was with 11:04 left.

Or am I misinterpreting and your just saying that he has a horrible record in tournament play? The allegation of turning down the La Salle job because it was viewed as a toxic career killer may have infuriated a few people. I think everything worked out nicely for all parties though and the perception of the position being toxic was proven wrong. Dunphy always seems like a nice fellow and devoted to Big 5.

I actually think for the most part on this board Dunphy is well liked. Good coach who turned us down probably because he believed it was to big a hill to climb and at Temple the hill was nothing more than a bump based on circumstances. On another note watched Ole Miss game last night and now realize what a poor outside shooter T. Garland is and he really should focus on penetration and short distance jumpers. Sam is our best overall shooter and should be taking a minimum of 10 shots per game. Thank goodness Price and Roberts based on everything I can find are solid shooters who can also drive and rebound. When you look at our team it is no wonder why we struggle on the boards we are so small in the 1 thru 3 positions (not only in height but also bulk). Looking toward next year with Washington, Price and Roberts it will really help both Wright and Zack because one and sometimes two of these three players will be on the court with them at same time. Clear that Price and Roberts have huge advantage versus Lewis, Garland and Mills because they can do all the same things even maybe a little better plus they are stronger and more athletic. Washington also is probably better than Davis in that he is athletic and can get off the floor with some minor handle. All is far from lost this season but we should play from our strengths and stop trying to force players to do things they are not particularly good at.

I was once in the camp that hated dunphy for stringing us along in 04, because I felt he was just using us (at the lowest moment in our history) to extract a few extra dollars out of Penn. It wasn't that he turned us down - it was how he went about it.
However, it was suggested to me by a wise man (wait, check that - it was kjmac) that dunphy was also legitimately torn between his alma mater and a job he loved, which factored heavily into his delay, so I disembarked the hate train.

He obviously didn't love the Penn job very much when Temple came calling with more dollars a few years later.
Look, objectively, getting in to that with La Salle in 2004 was a big risk. My mind understands why he didn't take it. And I fully comprehend taking the Temple job 2 years later.
But when you put those things together, turning down your alma mater at it's darkest hour to stay at Penn, then going to our league rival just 2 years later, and I can paint a convincing picture of him as a villain. He had every right to do what he did, and it made sense. But it doesn't mean I have to like him for it. Couple that with almost every Temple fan on the internet being an absolute knob, and I can come up with some vitriol for all of them.

We have G and he is every bit the coach that the Dumster is and is much younger and a better recruiter. No way Fran at his age could have accomplished what G has. I believe G and negative hair lip are tied in NCAA victories at three. G will get the wagon heading in the right direction.
