So Duren can continually get beat on defense but that's okay because he's the floor general and there is no replacement? Totally hypocritical, agreed. What's the alternative though? Prior to Lewis getting healthy, do you start Dunn, DJ, and Sam, with Rohan and Davis? I think there's better ways to send a message other than removing what has be the cornerstone of the team for 4 years now in Tyreek despite is garbage defense.

Looked back at the Manhattan box score. Sam Mills had ONE rebound in 48 minutes. Four minutes more than Garland. Garland had 2 blocks and a steal in that game. Interesting.

I'm not arguing any of that. The whole lineup is an issue. I just don't know what you do when everyone craps their pants. Maybe G should call John Calipari of last year.

Again, I think at least some of our woes will be addressed by hitting the road. Only one man's humble opinion.

I think Lewos solves the team defense issue a good deal. He's as good if not better than Ramon in the limited run I saw yesterday.
I also think our guys are less aggressive for fear of the fouls on the perimeter but I think we are under playing the psychological side of this a little as well. The first three tes we played were playing the biggest game of their season against us and I think that has some impact too. And for our guys, they are coming back down from the NCAA tourney against K State, Ole Miss and Wichita State. Playing Siena Manhattan and Quinnipiac isn't going to get their juices really flowing.
I'm not saying there aren't basketball specific issues as well but I also don't think we are a 29% 3pt shooting team and I don't think we will see Jerrell continue to shoot 40% from 3 feet away. These things even out in the long run and you can't get overwhelmed by these short term results, no latter how frustrating they have been.
I'm sorry but we have missed a ton of good looks at the hoop and if a normal % of those shots drop the record is 3-0 and we probably blow away Siena and Q. Take out the garbage time 3 at the end yesterday and the team closed out on a 20-3 run yesterday if that's how they opened the game it would've been a laugher.
Relax and let's see how these guys come together on the road. I think we see a much more relaxed team

If you can tell that a guy who transferred up from Delaware is better than a guy who came from a BCS school after 8 minutes of play, G should have you on his recruiting staff. It's wild predictions like this that have everyone in an uproar, calling for major changes, after a loss to Manhattan or a close game against Siena.

I think the point was that he's better than Ramon on defense, not better as a complete player. Admittedly, it's early to make that judgment, but I don't think where they transferred from is the deciding evidence.

thanks for clarifying my thoughts Ltrain, that's my point exactly. In that limited run of 8 minutes (20% of the game = limited in my book), I think Lewis was quicker on his feet than Ramon and more fundamentally sound in getting into a defensive position. It was only during his time on the floor that their guards weren't able to get in the lane and he clearly disrupted their scheme. I don't ever recall saying Khalid was a better player or even thinking that for a minute. The team's core issues in my opinion right now are team defense and shooting. Shooting is a lot like hitting in baseball and ebbs and flows. I'm not looking for Khalid to fill Ramon's offensive contributions, but I think he provides the tough edge and perimeter defense we need. In fact, my bigger concern now is that I think Tyrone might be as good or better offensively but certainly not defensively and Khalid is as good or better defensively but I don't think you can have them on the floor together and that's why Ramon was great to have because he could get it done at both ends of the floor.
For the record, Coach G has said a few times that Khalid was as good or better than Ramon defensively as well. I am merely concurring with that notion based on what I saw Saturday. The whole environment on the floor changed with Khalid out there, now he needs to get in game shape so he can play more than 8 minutes and we can really see what we've got.

I think fans are dangerously expecting too much from Khalid. He is not going to be the savior. Almost every player and coach on the team needs to be better than what they were during those three games.
Khlid Lewis is not going to change that. He is a piece of the larger puzzle but he is not going to materially change the outcome of this team from the first three games. The entire team needs to improve.

While i disagree with Jellybean in his position about the coach's approach to Ty Garland. I thought he did a nice job describing and spot on detailed summary of the Defensive woes we demonstrated in the Siena game. It will take a team commitment to turn this around, i think.

I'm not saying he's the savior, but he's a piece of the puzzle and you can't complete a puzzle without all the pieces. I think Khalid returning lends itself to other areas improvement, not directly by him but through what other combinations we may be able to run out there.
I think a lineup of Sam, Tyreek, Khalid, DJ and Wright could do really well together. That lineup was +5 in 4 minutes of the 1st half and even for 2 minutes in the 2nd half, Khalid got another minute in the final minute of the game.
Khalid allows us to put 2 lock-down defenders on the perimeter and pick up the ball for 90 feet, I haven't seen as much of that as last year I feel like and the lack of guard depth i think has influenced that a bit. However, I think college hoops is going more and more in the direction of the NBA where defense is going to be hard to come by simply because of the rules, so the effort has to come on rebounding the basketball and being able to have a slightly bigger guard out there to mix it up under the glass could be helpful as well.
I think the answers are all on the team, it's going to be up to the coach to sort it out.

Anyone of you game at the game give us an objective non-Siena fan take on Siena? Our frosh/coaching with Jimmy Patsos - any thoughts? I think Patsos is a good coach and will elevate the program. He did a good job keeping the team in the game, rotating players, mixing up the D here and there. I don't think he could have done any more from a coaching standpoint to change the result. Poole is a nice player and the point guard is really quick. Patsos will bring in talent, as he is a good recruiter. I tell you what, I sat across from him and can tell you he gives 100% effort as a coach. That leads the players to respond. When I walked by the bench early in the second half, his shirt and suit were drenched.

mts he was half way on the court almost the entire game and started to annoy me a bit, but he is a good coach. however, when they went zone it was a big risk in my opinion that could have backfired had our guys hit the open shots they were given. They even passed up a few open ones as well. It worked and that's a big reason they were in the game for so long. Poole is a nice player, like a poor-man's Doug McDermott. When our guys finally decided to play at maximum effort and the crowd got back into it, I think you saw a lot of mistakes come from the youth of the team. The over and back call, the moving screen, etc. They got tense and our guys, to their credit, sensed blood in the water and attacked.

I'm a little late responding to this thread. I traveled down to Philly for Homecoming - my first time back in about 3 years (class of 08). Loved a lot of things going on with the University. Here is my take of Saturday and the team.
- First and foremost the student section has done a complete 180. During my 4yrs if we had more than 2 full rows of students with La Salle shirts standing and cheering that felt like a lot. A ton of credit to students they seem to be standing the whole game intensely involved in the game. Great to see the pride and enthusiasm. Goes a long way with recruiting and potentially getting a new Arena.
- Love Love Love the tribute video from last year that is played before introducing the starting lineup. Really cool and gave me chills reminiscing on how special last year was. I still haven't received my DVD but I hope that 2 minute clip is in it.
- The new court design is awesome. It's simple and clean. Has a vintage look. The only thing I would change is having our half court logo be larger. Which has been mentioned on here before.
- Why does the book store close at 3pm on GameDay? My gf, who also attended La Salle, wanted to stop in to get merchandise for her niece but obviously didn't get a chance. Seems like a no brainer to have it open for an hour after games.
On to the Team
- They desperately miss Ramon Galloway on offense from 3pt range. Biggest difference from this yr to last. So many times we score 9 quick points on 2 or 3 shots from behind the arch in a matter of a minute. It gave our team a "punch first" mentality. The shooting almost seemed contagious. This year guys look hesitant to shoot - looking to score inside first. We are not going to give ourselves a chance to beat ELITE teams without hitting a ton of 3s. We need Mills, Duren, Peterson, Lewis, and Dunn to think 3 when given a little bit of room. I left Garland off the list because he's such a better player driving to the whole.
- Speaking of Garland : He's definitely playing a little tight. Putting to much pressure on himself to take over Galloway's role. He missed at least 3 bunny layups on Saturday against Siena. And that's not including the 2 stupid dunk attempts at the end of the game. He needs to play his game. He can get to the rim whenever he wants. He is the best offensive option on our team. Just don't try to do to much and he will be fine.
- Steve Zack an Wright were horrible receiving and passing the ball when they caught it down low. It seemed like our team had 5 or 6 turnovers between both of them either catching the ball in the block or trying to kick it out. They need to decide faster what they want to do before entry.
- Lastly, IMO the most improved players on our team seem to be our ROLE PLAYERS. Peterson seems more confident on offense scoring from areas other than 3pt land. Sam Mills looks like he finally realized he needs to be a bigger contributor for our team to have as much success as last year. Dunn is a player I didn't expect anything from so any contribution is great. And Rohan seems like he is ready for a bigger role but needs to convince G on giving him more time. They benefited the most from our Tourney Run.
I'm hoping for a respectable year. I'm from the New York Area and the team has a lot of games that I will be attending. Hopefully those games are for Tournament implications.

St. Bonnies lost to Siena this week. Not saying st. bon is a great team, but maybe this can add some perspective that G isn't picking a cupcake ooc schedule and we may have beat a decent team.

No chance. Siena is bad. The Bonnies are not that good either. Bottom line is a team with NCAA aspirations should not be losing at home to Manahattan, and struggle to beat Quinipiac and Siena at home. We have not been very good in the first 4 games. Can't spin it any other way. Hopefully we get on track fast.

I never said we played well. just saying that we may be underestimating some of these teams and expecting too much of our team. That's, readily apparent with us but odds are that either Manhattan or Iona will make the tournament with a meac qualifying bid as well and have the same aspirations of tournament play as we do and Siena just beat an A10 team. Even with ramon we struggled against plenty of poor teams last year. The key really was beating the good teams.
