I wish I was starting at La Salle as a freshman this fall Me, too....It would be like Rodney Dangerfield in "Back to School."

It really isn't isolated though. The hospital is home to the nursing school. I believe Psychology is located there, as well. There may be some other majors also. It's actually the School of Nursing and Health Sciences. Nursing's the biggest. But there's also Nutrition, Speech Pathology and some other related programs. The Nursing major is huge -- I think it might be the biggest major at La Salle. There are a lot of adult/night school students. It's a really different academic program than what traditional undergrads are used to. The Nursing/Health Sciences school really matches the La salle mission more than any other academic program. A lot of the part-time/adult students are the first in their family to go to college. There are a lot of really inspirational people in that department. The investment in purchasing Germantown is one of the greatest things La Salle ever did, IMO. Not to rain on your parade, but isn't the Nursing program experiencing severe problems with its accreditation status?

That's the right answer. I waited long enough for that sort of season, the last thing I want is to retroactively take it away from myself.

Excellent point. And what I really mean is that if i could take the people and experiences I had from my time at La Salle and put them in the school as it is today that would eb awesome. The place has really transformed and I'm envious of a lot of things I see.
Anyone check out the pics of the new B&G? That place looks nice, well done Aramark.

Makes the Aramark switch look even better.

I guess the dorms are alcohol free now. Wonder what the policy is on alcohol consumption on campus is now. It was totally open my freshman year (you had to store your cases of beer in the closet was basically the policy). Upper classmen across the hall grew their own marijuana... 1st floor Hillary was one big bong hit!
The breakfasts and lunches were good in the brand new north dorms caf but dinners were awful.

Makes the Aramark switch look even better. I was on campus today. It looked great. Take that SJU (pa) fans. Stopped by B&G. Absolutely fantastic. Colors are great. Lots of natural light since they blew out the front and added lots of windows. Food was terrific and lots of variety. Looks like The Point will be a new Chinese Restaurant.

Hearing the new business school structure is going to stand 5 stories tall on the old church site. Common sense would say Wister is going to become an important focal point going forward for La Salle.

I ate Chinese food for 2 years from Chinese truck and it was not watery considering they didn't have running water.

True, forgot about the truck, it was decent. But I mostly got Chinese food at night there and the take out places were not very good.

The Chinese food in the neighborhood was watery and flavorless no matter where you got it when I was there. We always got it from China America. The delivery man/owner/cook Johnny would just walk right in your house without knocking and yell "your food here!"

Freshman move-in day is today.
I still remember it fondly. I was beyond scared -- a super nerdy kid from a public high school in North Jersey who didn't know anyone. The first few days were really tough. Everyone seemed to have all gone to the same few high schools. I lived on E&F and hated pretty much everyone on my floor. I had a Christian Brother for an English teacher who began class with a prayer. I had another prof who did the same. Also, I had no idea where anything was in Philly or how to get to where things were. And, naturally, the school's neighborhood was terrifying. And I was a disaster at the first party I went to at Rugby -- I only drank once in high school and you can tell where that went.
I called my parents about 25 times those first two days and told her I was going to transfer to a commuter school back home.
Fast forward 18 years later. I've got both my bachelor's and master's degrees from La Salle. I've got a gigantic group of friends that I'm really close with -- all of them were from school. The Christian Brother who taught my class became a really good friend and mentor and he's far from the only professor I can say that about. I got to virtually every basketball game. I've done some alumni volunteer work (and wish I did more).
Everyone says college is the best four years of your life. My four years at school wasn't. It was the first four years of an amazing amount of fun and memories.
These kids don't know how lucky they are.

Your first few paragraphs would be my story exactly, if you just replace a few words:
(Replace New Jersey with New York, replace E&F with St. George, and replace nerd with incredibly dashing.)
I got there on August 26th of 2004, which folks on this board should recognize what was going on during the timeframe. In addition of the rape stuff, the 20th street protesters were in full effect, screaming and honking horns at 18 year old's on the scariest day of their lives.
My roommate was from NE Philly, had probably 15 kids he knew already from High School and was a generally weird guy to begin with (he didn't bring an alarm clock to school, his Dad used to call and wake him up every morning). It seemed like 95% of people I ran in to were either from Philly or South Jersey and everyone went home every weekend. I didn't have a car, and outside of just taking the subway down to Center City and wandering around for a few blocks, I didn't how to go about getting to know Philly.
The school was essentially on lockdown due to the bad press from the Summer, and no one was having "open" parties. At one of the few there were, the Liquor Control Board raided the house and gave everyone citations. My high school friends were all at SUNY schools where they knew some people and were partying it up. I went up to Binghamton for a weekend in October and was totally convinced I was leaving La Salle after the semester, or end of the school year at the latest. But then after Thanksgiving, it started to get a lot better. I met a good group of people and things started to loosen up on campus a lot. Basketball season helped, although fan interest was non-existant, I enjoyed doing games on WEXP and stuff. In the few weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas break, I did a total 180. The 2nd Semester of Freshman year was awesome, and that continued in to Sophomore year, and then got even better when I moved off campus Junior year.
Quite the ride. I'm not one of these "best 4 years of my life" people. But damn, it was a lot of fun.

That was written by a buddy of mine. I moved into Neumann second semester freshman year. My room was right next to his. I'm really good friends with the roommate he mentions (who now teaches on campus). I can't figure out who any of the other characters in this are in this but I'm sure I know who they are. I had a bit of a different experience than the author (my group was a little wilder). But this captures exactly what it felt like and how awesome it was. And I miss it, but I still have it.
