Saw the first 10 minutes and last 6 minutes of WSU LU. From what I saw, the zebras gave a big boost to LU. Almost every 50-50 call went to LU. Baker gets punched and a flagrant 1 or 2 should be called on hackmeister Van Treese and after a tv timeout they reverse the original basic foul call on Van Treese and they call a double foul. The tie up with Baker when the game was on the line was a joke.
The Shockers deserve to play in the finals. I hope we get them on the OOC schedule ... soon!
BTW, 2 of 3 of the ref crew derive a big portion of their annual income calling FKA Big East games. Is it a coincidence LU is in the final?

Watching the beginning of the game it struck me that everything seemed to be going Louisville's way as far as calls but then things started to even out. Then in the second half, it swung in WSU's favor until the last 5 minutes or so where Louisville started getting some ridiculous calls in their favor as well as non-calls for some plays where there were clearly some fouls. The two calls at the end of the game that you cited were jokes. Steve needs to ring up the Cos.

Hoping Michigan hangs on only to avoid more uneccessary "Big East" talk.
Quite impressive that the non-Catholic 'Cuse, Louisville and UConn have pretty much dominated the conference for the last 10+ years though.

You just knew going down to crunch time that all the crucial calls would go Louisville's way like they did against Ohio State, and they did but only this time, they weren't able to hold on. Tough loss for the Shockers.
They are my new second favorite team. I really enjoyed watching them play.

Losing to the final 4 team takes a little sting away. The Shockers are for real. 1980 to Joe Barry Carroll on Purdue's home court and 1988 to Mitch Richmond's K St. before getting shocked in 2013. At least going down in the Sweet 16 is easier to swallow than a first-round exit.

Don't forget a first-round 87-83 overtime loss to Final Four participant Syracuse at the Palestra in 1975. Even worse, Kevin King, who played his freshman year at La Salle before transferring to Syracuse, made the winning basket.

Was that Joe Bryant's last game at La Salle before going what was termed "hardship" back then?

Gnocchi threw up an alley oop for kjmac or BP to finish. Out of La Salle's 12 appearances in The Dance, it either won it or lost to a team that made the Final Four 6 times -- the 50% rate no doubt being an NCAA record. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Salle_Explorers_men%27s_basketballNCAA Tournament appearances: 1954, 1955, 1968, 1975, 1978, 1980, 1983, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1992, 2013

Gnocchi, I've got 5/12: 54 (Champs), 55 (SF), 75 (Cuse), 80 (Purdue), 13 (Wichita St).
KSU lost to Danny and the Miracles in the 1988 Elite 8.
This is probably a question for the guy over at hoopstournament.net which has compiled damn near any obscure tournament stat you could imagine
Like we shoulda known how this tournament would play out because La Salle is now 5-1 in the tourney on Fridays (K-State win) and 1-6 on Thursdays (Wichita State loss)

Was that Joe Bryant's last game at La Salle before going what was termed "hardship" back then? Yes. JB finished with 25 pts and 14 rbds in his La Salle finale. Unfortunately, Syracuse big man Rudy Hackett finished with 30 and 12.

I remembered that Kansas St. made a run in '88 and thought it was to the Final Four. And speaking of Kansas St., Syracuse beat them in the elite 8 in '75 to get to the Final Four. La Salle still probably holds the record with 5/12, either winning it all or losing to a Final Four team.
