So we are now sitting at October 23rd. The early signing period (which is so critical for a program like La Salle) begins on November 14th and ends on November 21st. It sounds like Coach Giannini is pushing hard for Amida Brimah - let's hope we hear something soon because the longer it goes the tougher it might be to land him.
I know we have Amar Stukes committed and hopefully he can develop into a A-10 caliber guard over time. But we need a big man (forward/center). If we don't get one in the fall period, I don't think we will find one in the spring. It's now or never.
So, hopefully we land Stukes and a big. I'm hoping Coach Giannini holds the other scholarship we have. The ideal would be to get a high level guard who wants to transfer (aka Pettis, Galloway, Garland) after this year, sits out the 2013-14 season, and then is ready to step right in and play a ton in 2014-15.
This year is so critical to our program. We should be very good this year and next year, but in order to keep any momentum going we need to pick up some very good A-10 level recruits/transfers this year and next.
We need to make it to the NCAA tournament THIS year in order to convince a couple high level class of 2014 recruits to come here and step in and get major minutes after Duren, Mills, and Garland graduate.
I'm excited about the upcoming season. I think we can be a top 4 team in the A-10 and if we do that we have a legitimate shot to make the NCAA tournament. Our guards are extremely talented (Duren, Mills, Galloway, Garland, and Peterson) - the best group of guards in the A-10 - and Jerrell Wright is going to be very good. We just need Zack to step up and fill a productive role and then Brown/Davis to give us some minutes.
Here's hoping we hear some news about a commitment soon.
