Appears only 7 players saw action tonight, the talent level is way to low to complete in a strong league! This being said, having our best two players on the court for all 40 minutes is problematic.

This was a bad loss for us tonight. This game was winnable, but we gave the game away. We’re not beating nobody in the A10 shooting 8\31 from 3’s(26%) and 9\18 from the FT(50%). If we hit at less 40% from 3’s and 80% from the line, we be talking about our victory. The only positive of the game is Jocius playing tough in the middle with 13 rebounds and 3 blocks shot. We are taking too many 3’s and less driving to the basket. This coming game is a rematch against St. Joe’s at home. Let get this needed win baby.

Bad loss. Just when you hope you could gain momentum and go into a sold out St Joes game after winning 2 straight we crap the bed. Is that sarcasm? I can’t recall the last time we sold a game out.

Last year La Salle had the same 2-6 conference record through January before rolling off 5 straight wins to start February. Our 3 home games in our next 5 are winnable games against St. Joe's, SLU, and UMass, and a road game at Davidson is doable. Road at Richmond will be a tough task.
I'd be elated if we take 3 of these 5. Realistially, I expect 2 of the 5...anything less just adds to the disappointment of the season.

I had us winning only 1 of those games (SLU) with potential for taking another (UMass). Would love for us to have another strong Feb but I’m not getting my hopes up. At best, I see 4 more wins this season. At worse…don’t make me think of an O-fer (sp?)

Welcome to the squad, Johnny As I have sadly said numerous times this season.. Basketball is a backcourt game and your success will be determined by that.. Last night’s game is yet another example.. And, for fairness from previous comments, Brantley had a good game relative to the season.. 40%+ FG and 33% from 3pt is a good line from him.. And if Brickus puts up his normal line that would work… And, certainly typed with a smirk on my face, if Tunde gave us a better line, we probably have a different result.. Free throws also.. Just a poor game that good teams win… But still, Marrero only getting 12 mins is confusing to me as well as Zan getting none. I recognize that Zan was stopgapping minutes while Rokas got back to 100% but Zan seemed serviceable for 10ish mins per game and would be even more so if he played not as a “quasi-5” so he at least battled with someone more of his height.. And while his efficiency lines had regressed he is still carrying a eFG and TS% in the upper 58s that is a good line and much better than several players that log in a ton of minutes for the squad.. I understand defense will get mentioned but I think for 10 or mins and with healthy Rokas in there Zan’s defense would not be as egregious as one would think..

Take five more threes against Rhode Island and they win. You wanted us to shoot 36 3's last night in the hopes of making one more to win the game? The conference games we've won have involved shooting fewer than 20 3's a game: Opponent | 3-point attempts | Result | George Mason | 29 | L | Fordham | 15 | W | UMass | 25 | L | VCU | 23 | L | St. Joe's | 32 | L | Dayton | 29 | L | GW | 19 | W | Rhode Island | 31 | L |
If you look at the season (not counting Rosemont) - the games we've won, the team averaged about 23 3-point attempts per game. The games we've lost - 28. Logic would dictate shooting fewer 3s to win games.

Actually agree with the more 3s instead of settling for the long 2s/elbow jumpers. Someone has said before we need the right players shooting 3s and we can’t seem to get that right. Gill should not be shooting 3s period. Leave it to Marrero, Brickus, and Tunde. Brantley settles for the elbow jumper because he isnt consistent from 3 and his drives to the basket more often than not are out of control/foul searching. His height in the lane isn’t helping him either.

Not taking enough threes. Take five more threes against Rhode Island and they win. Logic would dictate shooting fewer 3s to win games. More likely that those teams were more beatable. You're not going to win many A10 games by "driving more" with this lineup. You might steal a couple, but the ceiling of this team will be how many threes they can get up in a game and hoping that the percentages climb.

Over reliance on 3-point shooting is the fault of the coaching staff. It's a sign we have no offensive flow or plays. To beat man to man D and score inside the 3-point line, you need aggressive ball and player movement. We don't have that. Its 'bombs away 'and lazy basketball. Player and ball movement forces the defense to have to communicate, rotate, etc. to beat offensive picks and movement. Most defenses have troubling adjusting to this style of offense, leading to defensive breakdowns and higher percentage shots for the offense. Its basketball 101, and shocking that our coaching staff has not adjusted their offense to stop this losing streak.

Maybe they were "more beatable" because we didn't just chuck 3s all day. We have a sample size of 8 conference games and 20 D1 games overall - 2/3 of the season completed - and the analytics here would dictate shooting fewer 3s to win games with this team.

This team already virtually never passes up taking an open 3, no matter how lousy of a shooter gets it.
The just shoot more 3s and we’ll win argument is one of the dumber takes in a while.

And that may be true for the schedule played. If you actually want to win in this league, this year…should be shooting more threes and relying less on shorter guards making contested 10 footers.

I am positive if we went through each loss we could find all different reasons why we lost outside of shooting more 3’s.
Just go back to the last game. If we hit our foul shots we win that game. The VCU game. If Brantley plays half of the game he is capable of we would have won that game.
This team has no one way to win more games. It is physically deficient and deficient of talent. We are really well coached and the kids play hard. Those are the facts.
We can’t get better coaching and probably they can’t play any harder. We need more talent in the program. We are close to being a pretty good A-10 team with a few more additions depending on who leaves after the year.
For years I felt let down as a fan due to very poor coaching. If Dunphy had Ash’s talent he would win 20 games.
Pray we can mine some gold nuggets this Spring. Hope Dunphy has a couple more years in him. Seeing us lose due to talent versus losing due to coaching feels more tolerable to me for some reason because there is hope we get a couple of good additions can really change the dynamic here. I never felt that in the Ash years.

I never felt that in the Ash years. Well we have lost talent recently too. It does sadden me to see what happened with Josh, which he unquestionably could have used this year. Not saying that he would have stayed anyways, he was an Ashley recruit, but he was a plus player for us. The only one that was held in high regard by A-10 coaches last year.. Probably lost him to NIL money and now he is riding the pine getting 5-10 mins per game at FSU.. He could have got 25+ mins here and been that critical 3rd shooter that every D1 offense needs.. But Coach took the scholarship and put it into players that are not contributing or even playing this year... which a clear minus for this year's team and you have seen the result.. But we already discussed this last month and my asst coach friend thought that Josh is happy and he is making $$$ and has no regrets. Anyways the takeaway from the story is we need to retain the good talent we have that Ashley brought in... Next step on the list is Brickus.. We have to retain him for next season or the talent continues to deteriorate year over year. Going to be a very interesting 5-6 months!

Takes less money to win the Southland conference. Very true.... But they were also successful in the OCC also with a nice beating of VCU and Michigan. There are about 10 schools in the top 100 NET that have similar situations to us and/or in weaker conferences... Smaller basketball budgets, small or late to party NILs... explorer88 has mentioned this a few times.. Look at St Bonaventure... One of those Top 100 schools and pretty consistent... It can be done..

Didn’t realize Will Wade ended up there. I think I got this right, but of their top seven scorers, only one of them played on the team last year. And he’s only in his second year.

I’m sorry, that last statement kind of blows my mind because, I believe it was you but I may be wrong and if that’s the case, I apologize. But in a previous thread I responded to a post saying flipping Tunde and Shepherd’s minutes would almost guarantee Shepherd leaves and the response was “ok and…”. Not sure how you can say that and then immediately follow that up with that statement above. Unless you’re saying Shepherd isn’t “good talent” at which point then I understand your argument.

Josh Nickelberry is averaging 3 points in 20 minutes. Jack Clark is averaging 3 points in 10 minutes. The idea that the talent that left would make any meaningful difference is just wrong to me.
