Lots of players starting to enter the portal. So far I see the following from the A10:
Jacob Hutson - 6-11 junior from Loyola Chicago - averages 6 mins and 2 pts per game although had 9 points in 21 minutes against us
Saint Thomas - 6-7 sophomore from Loyola Chicago - about 18 mins, 3 pts, and 3 boards per game

He played 14 games with the last appearance against Davidson on Jan 4.

Not A10, but Jameer Jr is in the portal again... after leaving GW for Delaware. He did average 20 at Delaware though.

He not a A10 player, but Dom Campbell from Notre Dame in the portal. He is a 6’9 freshman PF\C. He played limited minutes at Notre Dame, but is a 3 or 4 star player out of High School. He remind me of Ed Croswell. #GoExplorer

I wonder if Dunphy will take guys from the portal that only have 1 year of eligibility. Also will be interesting to see how many scholarships we will have for next year. Saw some video of Anthony Selden from Gardner Webb. Athletic 6'6 wing who can shoot the 3 and I think he has 2 years left. Going to be an interesting off season.

You can follow the Portal Report on Twitter and they list guys entering the portal and in some cases schools that have contacted them but some of the guys other posters have listed aren't on that site so they may have some inside info, I do not

Just wondering...are more NCAA programs now focused on the portal than they are HS Senior recruitment? Prob makes more sense...get a guy that has at least 1 year experience under his belt, and fill in the holes real quick.

It would definitely make sense for a program like ours that's already historically succeeded more with transfers and has a coach that most HS kids/families probably assume won't be here through 2026-27.

Just wondering...are more NCAA programs now focused on the portal than they are HS Senior recruitment? Prob makes more sense...get a guy that has at least 1 year experience under his belt, and fill in the holes real quick. Here's a study on it from February (with the conclusion posted if you don't want to read the whole article). One thing I did read separately is that it's making it harder for high school athletes on the bubble to get noticed. You think of a kid like Colin Gillespie who went largely unrecruited, and if Jay could have filled that slot with a guy with one or two years of proven experience at the collegiate level, Colin may not have gone to Nova. theresourcenexus.com/transfer-study-high-school-vs-the-portal/I believe there were some interesting takeaways. The free transfer and amount of transfers and NIL is still relatively new as well. I will be most interested in a few years after the extra covid super seniors are gone, and the portal has stabilized a little more what the mid-major aspect will look like. Is it even viable to build a mid-major through high school? Would a FAU type of team who saw an unexpected jump #132 to currently 20th. Would they even recruit the same amount of high school players now or more importantly be able to hang on to them over multiple years of high success like that? Of the P6 top 25 type of schools, it’s clear they can still build through elite high school recruits or pluck from the lesser mid-majors or P6’s. There are multiple viable paths to take at that level. Homegrown High School players over multiple years remain viable, although many of those programs mix in at least some portal players. As a side note it is interesting to see a coach like John Calipari really move away from one and dones and focus more on transfers like Oscar Tshiebwe. Is that more because he is under more job pressure to risk it with younger players, or a bigger philosophy shift? It was really only a few schools like Duke really all in on freshmen, and even schools like Duke and Arkansas still supplemented with a lot of transfers. I think in general you will see more coaches go for the proven older players overall. Everyone will still recruit the top 25 high school guys, but there are really only so many difference-making freshmen by the numbers this season.

I’d rather take physically stronger transfers with proven NCAA experience over HS recruits
Big name HS players demand high NIL; fringe players from HS that you develop become a name and then get recruited out of your program like an MLB farm system player. You have a better chance of getting a productive player for two years with an incoming transfer because they’d have to sit out a year on the second transfer.
Whether you play a kid for 4 years or have them redshirt for 5 in most cases they only have two productive years. If the system works against you (v the Power 5s) you have to make it work by developing incoming strategies with proven players.
There are plenty of players from lesser schools thriving at P5 and mid major programs. The key is develop the most effective strategy to attract and reel in those candidates who can perform and fit in with your system and culture.
I think Fran has developed a good system and culture. Adding three up talent players to his core would really help move this program up.

6-7 Daniel Nixon from GW in the portal. He missed most of the season with knee surgery. Played sparingly last season.
We had offered him before, as did Penn State, Temple, and Iowa.

With English leaving, 3 Mason players already in the portal: junior Ronald Polite, freshman Justyn Fernandez, and sophomore Blake Jones. Polite being the biggest loss for them although Fernandez got more significant minutes as the season went on.
