The basketball tournament starts today and it looks like the Big 5 team features Galloway, Wright, and Price. First game for the team is today 2 PM on ESPN3 (free) live from Rucker Park. Personally I’m intrigued with the game location.

Thank for the information on the game time. The legendary Rucker park and ESPN3. Let go Big 5.

Ramon with the 3 point play to put Big5 up 1. The rain then starts and they just put a tarp on the court!

They are apparently moving the Big 5 game indoors and will resume at 7 PM.

Big 5 wins 74-67. Galloway led team with an efficient 21 points and Daly was perfect from field with 13 points. Price DNP, Wright grabbed 1 rebound in less than 1 minute of play.

I was able to attend, well, the first few minutes until the hurricane rolled in. Unfortunately, wasn’t able to get to the game once it was changed to 7pm in the Bronx. However, was great to see my favorite Explorer, Ramon lead the team to a W.

Ramon really is the best. He needs to be kept around this program as his career/life progresses

Well the Big 5 team was eliminated yesterday by Autism Army. Autism Army was well coached and had more chemistry than the Big 5. Ramon was balling in the past two game at Rucker park. Ramon represented Lasalle very well at Rucker park and at TBT. #GoExplorer.

Autism Army was better. The bigs on Big5 stunk.

I felt so much joy watching Ramon yesterday. During his junior and senior seasons, he always played with so much emotion and 90 percent of the time the emotion was happiness. He loved playing basketball with those specific teammates. He played so freely. The photo of when they saw their name on Selection Sunday with him front-and-center is something that gives me just pure happiness if I ever come across it.
Ramon also really overcame a really tough background. I always got the sense that basketball was a great way to just forget about what he went through.
We all remember the game winning shot against Butler (easily the best live sporting moment of my life, even over a Phillies playoff win in 2008.) But Ramon was benched to start the game. He had one of his only bad outings in his two years. In the press conference after, he broke down crying because something had been going on that day with his mother. It's just such a perfect moment when you step back and realize what happened. I'm being really pretentious, but that's just such a great character arc - the hometown kid has to deal with some kind of awful burden, struggles, but ends up the hero of the night, and he has to enjoy a huge celebration while having whatever was happening was still in his mind.
I know he only had two years but they should retire 55. He was a special player. And from the people I knew on campus at the time, he had the reputation of being just incredibly nice and considerate, a great student, and just really got what we all want La Salle to be.

Was always an awesome interview. Don’t agree about the number (his stats don’t carry enough wait to get in that echelon. Not even close) but he was definitely a top-3 guy for me since I started really following the team.

I don't think I could retire Galloway over or without atleast Duren and probably Wright, but I bet we could do a pretty cool mural for the sweet 16 team or something.
(It would only be pretty cool because they made the sweet 16. If it were a "qualified for the play-in game", it would be uncool to very uncool.)

Perhaps the most intriguing thing watching Ramon play yesterday on TV was “Galloway Sr” on the back. When can we start recruiting Ramon Jr?!

Having sat on the retired numbers committee a million years ago, I'll just say it ain't happening. Hall of Athletes for sure, but no retired number. One of the main qualifications was being an All American (in any sport, not just hoops).
Using baseball, remember that sport?, as an example, Brian Schaller was two-time First Team Academic All-American and I don't think that was good enough to have his number retired. But I'm going off memory of being on that committee 20+ years ago.

Also most egregious missing player in Springfield. We’re all American teams more official back then, he’d have been one and was also first player to make la Salle relevant on the national scene.

Maybe. I wouldn't make an argument against it. But you'd be retiring it because of his contributions to the professional game, not really the collegiate one.

I never saw Larry Faust play a game but do remember his name. His four year average statistics look pretty impressive to me. Four season ave. School was 9-14 year before his arrival and then went: 20-6 20-4 (including school's first NIT birth when this was clearly a superior tourney to NCAA) 21-7 21-4 (including school's first NIT win); finish season ranked 10th in AP poll (2nd year poll existed) In Foust's day, FGA and rebounds (not to mention blocks) weren't tracked. FG% and Rebounds are categories he would have dominated if they were tracked. Scoring dipped a bit his senior year as Loeffler moved the giant out of the pivot to open up cutting lanes for his weave Foust also probably the first in a long tradition of La Salle getting absolute gems out of South Philly Considering how he's been snubbed by Naismith HOF, would be nice for La Salle to retire his jersey. Of course, he's not the only great player to wear #14 for us, either

He put La Salle basketball on the map, made them a top-10 program Enrollment was 1850 when he was a senior. 1650 of them made the trip to MSG for the NIT

He put La Salle basketball on the map, made them a top-10 program 100% could be true. And I truly do not have the historical framing to make an argument against that. Just wondering how he stacks up with Rasual, who averaged 19.3 on some bad teams. Over 2100 points. Over 700 rebounds. Just didn't "win" for a variety of reasons that weren't his fault.

It's not even close. Foust went #6 overall in the draft based on his play at La Salle and made us national title contenders. Rasual had a damn good senior season but was very inconsistent for most of his career and generally didn't make winning plays. He had an NBA body and so got chances other big numbers guys here didn't necessarily get at the next level (notably Kareem Townes, who had all the game in the world, but not an NBA body for the rugged mid-90s. He'd do great in the pros now, though). You just can't compare statistics from 1950 to 2000. Just like if you dropped Foust in a time machine from 1950 to 2000, i'm sure he'd have a hard time keeping up with the game. On the other hand, if you drop Rasual in a time machine back to 1950, he's a witch for not playing in the paint with his size, his preferred shots aren't worth 3 points and every time he dribbles the ball he's called for a carry. all you can really accurately compare is impact in their era. Foust rates top-5 in La Salle history in this (Gola is first, and then its hard to compare Train, Brooks, Durrett and Foust). Rasual is probably not top 10 by this metric as he'd fall after the aforementioned 5, Cannon, Woods, Overton, Bryant, Marshall and somewhere in the mix with Carr, Townes, Black, Lewis, Smith, BJ Johnson, Galloway, Williams, etc.
