Going to put some thoughts on staff here even though as I said before, this is not a wish list but just a random list. I am fine with whomever Dunphy decides he wants to sit next to him.
Known Names
Matt Brady. Was here. Dave who wrote the Gola book said he heard he was a possible candidate. Someone on twitter spaces mentioned that it was because he saw a picture of the two of them at a high school game. TBH, I'd be surprised.
John Gallagher. John Makes 300k+ at Hartford now? I don't know if Dunphy is making that so I'd be surprised if we're going to pay an assistant that and I don't know if Gallagher is ready to take that payout THIS YEAR. Maybe he is. Lot of talk about him being the coach in waiting but I'm still hoping that's not the case (not for him...for anyone).
Dreams
Jameer Nelson. Do you want to get into collegiate coaching Jameer? Come on down. You can be the next contestant on "MAYBE YOU'RE THE HEAD COACH IN WAITING." He wanted the Joe's job and didn't get it. Does he want to be a college coach or a coach at St. Joe's? Don't know the answer to that, but he's my first assistant choice regardless of who the head coach is. 15 years in the league. 10s of millions of dollars banked. All Star. Put his face on everything.
Curveballs
Fran O'Hanlon. Also 73. Recently retired. Not a first assistant, but end of the bench guy. I wouldn't do it because they're both in their mid 70s but here we are.
---
Who you got?

Love Matt Brady. Is a shot doctor in every sense of the word. Go look at Amar Stukes' shooting numbers before Brady & after Brady

Was a crossover Cheney/Dunphy guy. Maybe. I like it. Watched him in high school.

Not a Dunphy alumn, but Rick Brunson has had some nice assistant gigs at the college and pro level, currently at Camden HS coaching Wagner Jr.

Love Matt Brady. Amar Stukes Need more data than a guy that averaged 1.3 three pointers a game for his career.

What about players from the Sweet 16 run, which was a decade ago next March? I know DJ Peterson did some coaching. Anyone else? Wright?

Also, TJ DiLeo is in his first year as a low level Sixers assistant. Maybe a two for one with his dad.
Could he also look to rustle his old favorite assistant from Penn and Temple, David Duke, out of retirement?

Chris Clark isn't leaving Temple for La Salle. My guess would be guys like John Linehan, Raheem Mapp, Shawn Trice. I'd also think a potential C-I-W would make sense, like Gallagher.

Final thought for tonight - any ex-pro or assistant with a son who is a four or five star recruit in 2023/2024 would be nice.

If John Gallagher is a coach in waiting, this board, like Gola Arena (the current or new version of Gola) will be a Ghost town. I can promise you that.

Why is everyone so interested in Matt Brady?

Why is everyone so interested in Matt Brady? He's a very good recruiter in the Philly area. Maryland's roster over the years has essentially been all guys the Big 5 heavily recruited. Plus, he had some success at both Marist and JMU. He's very connected and I'm surprised Willard didn't retain him.

Brady also was an assistant at St Joes and coached up some of the best shooting teams in hawk hill history. Production there dropped off after he left.
During his last 8 years at SJU they had 4 seasons with 23 wins or more including an elite 8 run where they were a shot away from the final 4. The 8 years after he left they only did it once and that included years where they got good recruits off the E8 run so you can see his causal connection to success
He also coached Jameer and if Jameer liked him maybe there’s a chance…

Jameer isn’t coming to play third in line though.

I heard Jameer's name mentioned a couple of weeks ago as a possible assistant with Dunphy. It adds a lot of credibility with recruiting - he's been through it as a player and parent, and had his son go through the portal, so he understands that process. If Jameer really wants to coach, he can learn from an experienced coach like Fran.
Is he ready to he first assistant? Probably not...yet.

Good question. I say that making the assumption that the entire staff will turnover. If I had to have a more recent connection to the La Salle past, it would be Carr. Having said that, I have no clue about the quality of instruction and motivation he is delivering to the limited talent that we have left in the program… Do you have a why not?

There have been several issues that needed to be addressed with him I was told. I don't know the specifics. Aside from that we have been so bad with him as an assistant what can you point to that he has helped with? It can't be done. This program needs a complete overhaul from top to bottom.

burned way too many bridges last time...with people close to Dunphy. That being said, if he really wants to one day be a head coach, assisting under Dunphy is a perfect way to learn the job and prove you can do it when Dunphy retires in a few years.
