So, either way you take it, we're a top 4 team with plenty of clearance above 5.

It's pretty wild that a quality team like Dayton would stay home from Brooklyn if the tourney started today. The bottom 3 are pretty obvious in this league but a really good team will be staying home as well.

I'm not sure that I would call them a really good team. If they were, they would be winning more games. I think they're a decently talented team with mediocre results.

Regardless, I'd like to see Dayton start to win some games. I've looked at our rpi breakdown, it looks like we've more or less gamed the system. Need a couple of these teams to get back into the top 100 and Dayton probably has the best chance.

we didn't really "game" the system - the A10 is a really good league this year so that's going to help keep the RPI up...as long as you win. Beating Butler and VCU has helped our RPI tremendously. Winning that game at Charlotte would've been another big boost or beating UMass at home - either game the team conceivably should have won.
At this point it's just about winning games as much as possible. The team can't play their way out of the tourney if it wins games it needs to
One benefit of the A10 schedule is that the road games we had were favorable in terms of opportunity to win, although I admittedly fully expected a loss at VCU, from here on out the road games (except @ SLU) ar against opponents where we are the better team on paper (SBU, URI) or aren't really that much of a "road" game (@temple)
One question I ahve is if the SJU game will be considered a neutral court because that helps your RPI a little more than a home win and doesn't hurt your RPI as much as a home loss.
The bottom line is that 11 wins in the conference will garner quite a bit of attention from the selection committee, will put us in the top 4 and maybe even the top overall spot depending on tiebreakers. The team has the ability and potential to secure a bid before the A10 tourney even starts and may very well only be playing for seeding purposes in that tournament.

I just meant that our rpi before we beat Butler was 41 or 42, without a top 50 win. Our OOC schedule included a couple of really good teams but a lot of mid-low majors that were completely beatable, but would run up high win totals once they hit conference play. It's smart really, since the A-10 is good enough to get us the quality wins we need. I'd just like to see someone like Dayton that we've beaten find their way into the top 100. Looks better for us.

gotcha - I agree with your assessment then
What we have to hope for in the future is that a few more years of this kind of scheduling philosophy combined with winning those games and a continued strong league will result in some consistent post season appearances. Consistent post season appearances will make scheduling some more "marquee" opponents easier and hopefully with a home and home setup as well as get us more consideration for the regular season tourneys against high-level teams.

A better RPI will def make it easier to get better teams on the schedule because it will not be a drag
