I was just curious about the board's opinions regarding Brooklyn's stance with Kyrie Irving and his vaccination status. I, for one, agree with the Nets. Either you're in or you're out, no half-schedules,road games only, etc. This isn't an office job share. I don't agree with him, but I believe he has conviction, so I give him credit. I do believe he's actually willing to lose his job over this.
This does make him untradeable right now. What team would willingly contend with his off-the-court situations when it regularly leads to him not being on the court?

I do believe he's actually willing to lose his job over this. I’ll take that bet. Dude had no problem having seven vaccinations to attend Duke. His ‘I’m just giving voice to the voiceless’ routine could indirectly get someone killed. I’d expect him to miss those game checks and show up before Jan 1. If not, good riddance.

I can't imagine there are many employers that wouldn't take the same position as the Nets. Irving will miss half of the games. Hard to expect an employer to allow you to continue to work when you are only available half of your work schedule. I agree with Joe, at some point I think he will get the vaccination and play. Professional athletes careers are relatively short so it's a difficult choice for him.

Most employers can fire their employees for any reason except for reasons discrimination. I have more respect for Irving now than I had before. He has mental issues for sure and I respect him holding his ground. Will he be able to stick this out long-term? We shall see.

I'm pretty sure he'll only get paid for away games that aren't MSG or Los Angeles if the current situation holds.

88 I would be surprised if the Nets have to pay him for home games where he is ineligible. I don't believe any Court has ruled that failure to vaccinate is a discrimination issue. He's in a tough spot and it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

This guy is no hero, and if he gets paid any portion of his salary, he will benefit from a double standard. As many have noted, this luxury to not show up and collect a paycheck should not exist anywhere else in the world outside of professional sports, and if this is what he claims to be fighting for, "the little guy," no, I don't buy that and I certainly do not respect that.

How would he kill someone? If someone is vaccinated- they are protected, right? Or are you saying vaccinations don't work. And the losing of a job over vaccination is new, and dumb. Don't point to him as a 17 or 18 year old as the same thing as what is going on now. I know you're dumb, but you can't really be THAT dumb.

And/or he could kill someone who is unable to be vaccinated. I know you're dumb, but you can't really be THAT dumb.

By being a public feature and using his platform to do whatever it is he is doing, he is giving cover to others who might lean towards remaining unvaccinated. And they will kill people.

If you don't have a perfect driving record you should lose my job because you could possible kill someone driving? Because I didn't get a flu shot and got the flu and then gave it someone who unfortunately died 4 degrees down the line People smoked for years and crowded rooms and bars and gave second hand smoke to others who indirectly died. This is a virus that 99.5% has recovered from and vaccines don't slow the spread of the virus and we should force people to put a vaccine in their body to earn a living and live their life all the while the people in congress, postal workers and others are not required to put in their body. Insanity at its finest. Force some but not all to follow. I applaud every person that stands up and fights this bullshit. This comes from someone who is vaccinated. Difference is it was my choice. No one should be forced to put something in their body when 99.5% people recover from it. Abortion is my body and my choice but getting the vaccine isn't. Total bullshit from a political parties and world organizations that want power and to remain power while they steal from citizens along the way.

Over 700,000 Americans are dead in 18 months but no, just like the flu. I've never met someone less capable of thinking for themselves than you Joe. Yes, he might make people think about not getting vaccinated. Guess what, they still have that choice and it isn't dangerous. Because all the fine 'ol vaccinated won't get sick so who really cares? Oh yeah, it's not the flu, and there were only what, 300 cases of the flu this year? The average age of covid death? and how many underlying conditions did they have? Take your fear porn and enjoy it. But don't tell someone they aren't allowed to think for themselves. You can blindly listen to government agencies like the ignorant coward you are- but you are just that for doing so. Kyrie Irving is a healthy 29 year old- they have a next to 0% chance of dying from covid, and if they arent overweight with underlying conditions, its statistically insignificant. Be healthy and you are fine. Take your vaccine if you want, then you will be safe from everything. Enjoy your booster too. But employees should have a right to take or not take what they want.

But I'll entertain it- what do you do with people who cant get vaccinated then? still fire them? Or wait to see how bad their reaction is, hope they dont die from it (it still doesnt have full FDA approval) then decide if its safe or not? I'm healthier without it. I know people than ran fevers of 103, 104, and 104.4 and were on the verge of having to go to the ER from the vaccine. I know 5-6 people that had covid and it was less serious than the flu- 1-2 sick days and they were back to normal.

Well if your employer were to mandate the vaccine I wish you luck in your decision.

I question whether these forced vaccinations for Covid are really the right thing. There are lots of nuances to this. I'm vaxxed...I made the personal choice to get vaxxed as soon as I could. I had planned to get a booster until the Merck treatment was announced a couple of weeks ago when they stopped the trial due to the stellar efficacy it was showing and planned to file for emergency use authorization...assuming it gets approval. That changed the game a bit.
I tend to like what Delta Airlines did. Basically said...fine...if you don't want to be vaccinated, don't, but you have to be masked, submit to weekly Covid tests, and your insurance premiums are going up by $200 a month due to the average cost of treating an unvaxxed Covid patient who gets hospitalized (similar to what most company's health plans require in terms of a premium for smokers). Basically giving the employee the choice, with the understanding that their choice creates a consequence for them economically and logistically.

I agree with you except for the fact that many (most?) employees do not provide insurance. I also worry that the required covid testing will become (check this box). My work is requiring the vaccine to do anything in person, with the idea that some in-person (client meetings, maybe) would need some in-person contact and those that do not comply will be affected professionally. We’ll see I guess.

My company said every employee has to be fully vaxxed by Nov 24 (unless you have a religious or medical exemption) or you will be considered to have "voluntarily resigned" from the company. We are global...about 10,000 employees worldwide, but this applies only to US employees due to the Biden mandate for companies over 100 employees. I know a smaller pharma company in Delaware (about 1700 total employees) that had a similar policy they put in place before the Biden requirement, and they started "layoffs" in late September for employees not getting vaxxed...I think about 2% of the workforce so far there in the offices from what a friend there told me last week.

This begs the question of whether or not people who make their health decisions based on the stance of a professional athlete (or actor or singer or....) deserve to be in the gene pool long term. I chuckled a few weeks ago when Lebron James said he decided to get vaccinated "after doing my research". I guess he was reading clinical studies and running the biostats data through SASS while doing his "research".

Listen, I respect following the advice of doctors and scientists, but I have a message board friend who knows a bunch of people who had Covid and they like coughed twice and then he knew a bunch of other people who got the vaccine and they could have maybe almost nearly died from a fever. I guess I just think you need to be receptive to all inputs and then weight them based on your own personal political leanings and how dumb you personally are.

How did you come to the decision to get vaccinated? Read the published clinical studies (which is kind of my job in clinical/medical affairs in a pharmaceutical company - I have an MD who reports to me responsible for pharmacovigilance safety signaling in published medical literature). Also spoke with my physician and several others factoring my age/health/etc. to confirm what I was reading.
