Is there really any optimism going into next year?

Saw that. I don't know how one assumes we will below St. Joe's and Fordham but regardless next year appears to be a long tough season for us unless something happens unexpectedly to give us a boost.

Counterpoint: I think La Salle will be better next year than they were this year and we shouldn't trust predictions from a guy that started covering the A10 seemingly yesterday.

Counterpoint: It's all but a guarantee La Salle is either 13 or 14 in the coaches poll, and I would say they know something about the A10

They got two of the top six right in last year's coaches poll. Three different teams got 1st place votes, St. Bonaventure not one of them. Over two thirds voting agreed Richmond would win the A-10. They finished 8th.

(My intern is off this week, otherwise I'd check to see if the coaches poll has a stronger correlation to actual current year records or prior year standings.)

I don't think La Salle being bottom 2 is out of line. I do think UMASS, Mason and GW will all be in the bottom 5. Dayton and Davidson almost certainly will not be.
1. Bonnies 2. Richmond 3. SLU 4. Davidson 5. VCU 6. URI 7. Duquesne 8. Dayton 9. UMASS 10. GW 11. Mason 12. La Salle 13. Fordham 14. SJU

Outside of Bonnies, SLU, Richmond and maybe VCU being near the top of the standings the rest of the league is a toss up IMO.
How he came up with GW at 8th after the offseason and year they just had is lost on me.
Many teams lost nearly their entire roster or multiple major pieces including Davidson, GW, Duquesne, Mason, UMass and Dayton. They all picked up solid commitments through transfers and recruits but it extremely difficult to hit the ground running at the A10 level with an entirely new roster.
I don't know where I put us right now but despite how the season ended returning 6 of your top 8 players and adding a player like Nickelberry (if healthy) isn't a terrible position to be in. Marrero also been raved about but I've been given that song and dance before. We will see this year how this core develops which is what most are waiting to see.

I wasn't sure about your position on her so thanks for clarifying. Pretty shitty look for Jared mocking your "brothers" but he's gone and wish him well.

That nothing new that every early projection year by year have Lasalle finishing around 10th to 14th place in the A10. In my opinion Lasalle will shock the world in the A10 conference by finishing between 5th to 7th place. Coach Ash has to much talent on the roster to be finishing at the bottom in the A10. The top half of the A10 early projections lost their top players due to transfer or graduation. Coach Ash will surprise some people in the A10. P.S this for the comments Jared stated on Twitter, it crazy to transfer from a D-1 program (Lasalle) to a now D-3 program (Hartford). That some to laugh about.

Well, it's division 1 for the next 3 years it was division 1 when he transferred there There is not THAT much talent on the roster, this is the worst front court I can remember

If he has so much talent and keeps finishing as he has been then he must be a bad coach right? Seems we have two types posters on this board but all are disappointed in the performance of the program for the most part except a few. So why do we perform so poorly? First there is not a lot of talent on this roster despite what others keep claiming, at least IMO. In comparison to the programs in this conference, we just are not there . That is why we don't have players on the All-A10 teams. Do we have more talent then our record shows? Perhaps. I think the issue is a little of everything. Ash needs to be better and he still needs to recruit more skilled players somehow. Even with the A-10 taking some real hits from players leaving this season we are still a back end of the conference team if Ash doesn't get better as coach and our frontcourt looks very underwhelming.

I agree with Explorer88. But I think there is the black and white argument, but Ash right now sits comfortably in the gray.
He doesn't have earth shattering talent, but he also doesnt have the worst talent in the league. I think the talent sits somewhere in the 8-11 range. Year 3 I thought performance should be above what it was last year. I think Davidson has some of the least talent in the conference, but they are coached up to be a top 4 team every year because of superior coaching. With the coaching and roster turnovers of other teams, I think we should be better than at least 6-8 teams next year. We will see if that happens.
The talent Ash has is good enough to be coached up to a top 4 team next year (admittedly a down year for the conference). The reasonable talent and now continuity should pin them around 8 with average coaching.

I think
1) we made our way to a core lineup by the end of the year last year and Ash gave everyone a fair shot to produce
2) we are better off overall without the players who left via the portal since it will give the 2021 core and a few key new pieces the chance to play meaningful but not excessive minutes
3) I'm not as rosy as Ex...15 on a top 4 finish, since the A10 talent losers always seem to reload at a level equal or better to what we do
4) Agree with 88 that Ash's improvement in coaching will be a key to success/ >.500 league play
5) If Clark can re-establish the 3 stroke and shoot > 34% and Josh can score 10 ppg+ on an efficient basis, we could finish between 5-7; I think the frontcourt will limit top 4 status but I sure hope I am wrong

They've had the A-10 PoY (or co-PoY) three of the last seven years and that doesn't include Grady. Yeah, and they weren’t very highly rated out of high school. They’ve had almost no depth. Their 5th starter or 6th man, Bates Jones was a preferred walk on. They get coached up and play well. Kalinoski, Gibbs, Adridge, and Grady wouldn’t have been half at La Salle (or most A10 schools) what they turned out to be at Davidson. Grady was the one fairly highly ranked recruit because he liked Steph.

I’ve heard favorite player is often huge in determining high school rankings.
