Let’s go. His Louisville stats stink but there were majors interested.

i like this pickup. if you have a chance to grab a consensus top 100 player, you take him as long as you're confident he'll buy into the program, share the ball with his teammates, and is willing to defend. in his defense, he was on a loaded team his freshman year that won 24 game, went 15-5 in the acc, and was a ncaa tournament lock. not surprising that he couldn't break into the rotation. last year, he was sick or hurt (knee surgery) and missed a significant part of the season. la salle could potentially get 3 years from an impact player. plus he'll be using up his immediate eligibility waiver to come here.
so getting him is a plus, but ashley's biggest need this offseason is getting a big man ready to contribute immediately. he doesn't have to be a star, but he needs to be able to do a little bit of everything. without that, i just don't see this team being any better than a .500 team unless clifton, tegra and mamadou surprise everyone and exceed expectations.

How many open scholarships do we have remaining?

Why smh? Has good size. Should be able to make 3s and score the ball in A10, which fills a need. Was recruited by top 10 programs so the talent must be there. Seems to have been snake bitten in year 2. If he is healthy it should be a very good addition.

one scholarship left.
one more comment. for those that have complained about the talent level of ashley's recruits, this pickup should help address that.
ratings-wise, he's a top-tier a10 recruit.

Lineup is interesting with some pluses and minuses for mpg, but here’s a shot at it 1 and 2 Jig Kenney Nickelberry 27 minutes each 3 and 4 Ray 27 Clark 27 Moore/Gill 10 each Ward 6 5 Moore 14 Izay 14 Mamadou 12 Combinations need to click and players need to gel but there is potential and I believe we have room for another via transfer Different angle showing talent is there www.facebook.com/LouisvilleMBB/videos/-josh-nickelberry-/228068745516856/Sent from my iPhone

If Ash fills the last scholarship with someone in the frontcourt of significance this signing may be fine. Without additional help in that area this team will be not much better than previous seasons. We have too many guys that do the same thing and none of them are top of the conference. This signing may have the most upside but he still needs to prove it. Many posters automatically go to he will become what Louisville thought he would be but it is never that easy. The frontcourt concerns me the most.

Looks like an instant starter to me. Now lets see how he develops and how this team plays as a team. I try not to get overly excited on the incomings until we see them on the floor with their teammates and see the chemistry and how they respond.
Ash the recruiter comes through. Now lets see what Ash the coach can do.

His profile is/was good enough you don’t worry about roster composition, you bet on the talent.

I think this was a very good get for Ash. My main area of concern is bringing in a “ Big”( from the transfer portal , who can actually step in and play. I know how difficult they are to find+ the competition for them is fierce!

Had a lot of injury/illness games missed and saw limited action when he played. Wouldn't take it as a valid sample size indicator for A10 play. Ramon shot 35% in full game (24 mpg) action before joining us, and he turned out pretty well for us.

Nysier Brooks is also out there. Philly kid who has played big time college basketball and would be a year stop gap. On his third school now so I don’t know if that is an issue but a kid that could help us in the frontcourt.

You can’t worry about percentages on 30 shots. That’ll be like a 5 game stretch for him here.

This sound like a good pick up for Coach Ash, but I hope that he don't turn out to be the next David Beatty or Scott Spencer (South Carolina-SEC and Clemson-ACC) inconsistent. Also we have to many combo guard on the roster and we need another big on the roster.

Also we have to many combo guard on the roster and we need another big on the roster. I agree with Roaddog..and you can add Jordan Price and Pookie Powell to that list. I understand the narrative...coming off an injury, small sample size, step down in conference competition, etc. But 22% FG is not a very appealing stat in my eyes. 0 assists for the year as well. From the 247 Sports link above....appears that shooting has been an issue since being recruited in 2018. "Fine size (6’4”), average length and impressive vertical leaping ability. He built his calling card early in his career as an athletic scorer. Has good shot mechanics and there’s potential as a shooter, although his percentages don’t reflect that. An OK ball handler, but more of a straight-line driver at this stage. Potential as a defender, as he does possess fine quickness/speed. Long-term areas for improvement include consistency as a shooter, ability to break defenders down off the dribble and efficiency." I'm cautiously optimistic that a change of scenery, and moving to the A10 will bet Josh on the right track on the basketball floor. But you really can't ignore the stats.

He'll do that in his first four games at La Salle.

I'm in the minority but I like this pickup. We desperately need a consistent 3 point shooter and while nothing is guaranteed, Ash is trying to fill a need. The games where we shot well we had some big wins but unfortunately our inconsistency shooting led to some bad losses. Can't get too much shooting.
