Explorertown: more fragile than a jar of salsa on the Connelly Library sidewalk. I have to ask how you know about this rather obscure reference since that happened my junior year, and I may or may not have been present for one or more of the salsa incidents on that sidewalk.

A few people asked me to pull data against the local Catholic colleges, similar to what I showed for the A10. DeSales was a surprise to me in terms of endowment and donations. Absolutely shocked that their endowment is close to ours yet was about 60% of ours 8 years ago. Shouldn't our endowment be leaps and bounds above theirs?? Other highlights....everyone grew their endowments at a higher % than La Salle, and most grew revenue or had lower % losses than us. Immaculata and Rosemont look to be in trouble financially although Immaculata received a huge donation in 2016. I don't think these schools are the yardstick by which we should be comparing ourselves, but we do lose students to these schools, and kids applying to La Salle are also applying to a number of these. It does provide somewhat of a more localized glimpse into the Catholic college landscape. Question is...would any of these make a good acquisition target? I think La Salle should be head and shoulders above these other schools. I still think a move to acquire/Merge with Chestnut Hill College would do so much for La Salle. Beautiful setting, great campus, better area, etc. I'd probably try to turn 20th and Olney into a grad school factory of sorts. Push the nursing/PA/teaching and MBA there then do some knockdowns and apartment development to enclose the campus a bit. Geographically it makes the most sense as well. Could also strengthen partnership with La Salle HS where there is significantly more money.

Theres no room unless you want to knock down all of their open space. You have Valley Green to the south, neighborhoods to the east, Morris Arboretum to the North and apartment complexes and Morris arboretum to the west. I think I got my directions right. Pretty sure anything north or west of CHU is outside city limits too.

merge with chestnut hill and buy some of that montco open space next to it. la salle could do a part city/part suburbs marketing campaign like those innovators at st joe's (pa).

this one here is not an enrollment or revenue issue this is about the conservatives who redirected donations from their alma mater to protecting confederate statues or whatever. you're really going to go there? i see you liked my post. funny how you didn't come up with a clever response.

CHC would be interesting, and it would allow me to consolidate my donations since Mrs. Glitter went there. I'm really impressed with what Gwynedd has done but it's a bit of a hike from La Salle's campus. Problem is...none of these schools get us into majors we don't have (like St. Joe's getting Pharmacy). A lot of them seem to be strong education/nursing schools where we are already strong.

It was like a medium sized high school every time I went up there to drink. The campus is nice though.

La Salle got 12.6 million from government, a little more than half of the amount is mandated to students. La Salle needs to start an engineering program. Every Christian Brothers school has multiple discipline offerings in engineering, this is the future growth area La Salle is not involved.

La Salle needs to start an engineering program. Do the other schools have tremendous competition in their area at engineering? Seems like a pipe dream to actually make a dent.

I'm afraid that boat has already sailed here in Southeastern PA. Way too much larger, more established competition in Southeastern PA area. Penn, Drexel, Penn State, Temple, Villanova, Lehigh and Lafayette, to name just a few, already have large, well established multi-discipline engineering programs.
I would wager that the Christian Brothers colleges and universities that have these large, multi-discipline Engineering Programs have been long-time, signilicant players in the perhaps smaller, less urban educational / geographic markets in which they are located and compete.

SJU had just started an electrical engineering program in the late 80s when I was applying to colleges, but it doesn't exist anymore even as a minor.
I think one of the significant challenges with stating an engineering program is getting accreditation. SjU's wasn't accredited at time and i was thinking of doing that major there. My father (an SJU grad and an engineer) said...don't bother if it isn't accredited.
