So will he go up/down/sideways?
I'm going to go with slightly down. Rider, Monmouth, NJIT.

So will he go up/down/sideways? I'm going to go with slightly down. Rider, Monmouth, NJIT. I don't understand the point in a starter/ key rotational player transferring down. I guess BJ did it as he played plenty at Cuse, but I don't know. This is a transfer I don't understand in Jared. I take it that he's taking a mulligan this year, so he will have 2 years to play at his new school. The Croswell and Kimbrough transfers are head scratchers for me. Hopefully Moore can develop into a physical post player. He didn't like banging down low this year.

Kimbrough had the highest offense rating on the team yet was the 9th most used on possessions, via KenPom. In fact, all but one player listed as a "role player" had a higher offensive rating then any "significant contributor" on the team. Really makes you question the distribution of shots on the team. Good luck to Kimbrough, he seems like a good guy who had some bright moments here.

Anybody else worried that we've now lost 3 bigs in 3 years? Brookins, Croswell, and Kimbrough? I don't consider Stone a big, although he is 6'10.

The biggest head scratcher with Jared transferring is from February on, he stole big chunks of Clifton's minutes. I didn't look, but I would guess he started more games down the stretch for last third of season.
Ash clearly favored Jared over Moore. I think we could all see that. But if Jared is leaving because Moore is who Ash brought in and "his guy" why was Ash treating the situation as if it were the other way around? Now if the reason was Jared was proving to be the better player at that time, well that shouldn't have mattered. By then, we were already guaranteed a losing season with little chance of a postseason. Why not use the time to help grow teach and develop Moore and reap the benefits in the 2 years he has left?
The handling of the team has been out of whack all year. I felt the same way about Hikim. Early on, Ash openly admitted La Salle's issues on offense were stall ball and settling too much for outside jump shots. However, he left Ayinde on the bench as one of the few guys who could break down a defense and create more space on the floor. But at least with Ayinde it made sense him being unhappy with Brickus as the future and always having to play second fiddle.
The Jared situation is much worse. You lost the player you showed to favor and are now left with the player whose confidence you seem to have intentionally shaken.

I'm not going to miss Kimbrough.
Except for that short burst of effectiveness he had this season, it was normally, "...pass to Kimbrough goes through his hands, hits his knee and it goes out of bounds." "...Kimbrough with ball and he dribbles it off his foot and out of bounds." "Kimbrough goes up for the rebound, but it goes off his skull and into the upper deck."
He had some moments this year, but mostly it was WTF???

Don’t think it was a Jared or Clifton thing. Jared is a stronger player, more brute force. Clifton is more finesse, but the problem is he is mostly a mid-range player and that isn’t a useful ability on its own.
What do you do with Clifton Moore? You have better shooters. He’s not an elite defender. He’s not an elite creator. He’s not a banger. I just don’t know how many minutes you can give him if you have other options.

I thought Kimbrough started to show some real confidence and some nice touch as the season went on. He was on an obvious upswing relative to Moore. With two more seasons left due to Covid. Maybe one of the reasons he transferred was that it became apparent that Ash's offense involved very little for the center with almost no set plays for them. On many possessions they didn't even touch the ball. And Moore doesn't play down on the block anyway, so it was insane not to utilize Jared's offense. What's he supposed to do? Only look to rebound so the others can shoot threes? I disagree with others and think that Jared will transfer laterally and do well.

Curious what lateral versus "down" would be. Is it considered transferring "down" if goes to a MAAC team (he was offered by several out of high school), starts, is utilized for his skills, and maybe gets a conference championship and an NCAA bid? What gives him personally more opportunity to play and develop. BJ transferred "down" got minutes and is playing a step below the NBA...would that have happened at Syracuse for him? Maybe not as quickly.
The MAAC has 5 teams with a higher NET than La Salle. If Jared goes to one of those, is that a transfer "down"?

You go by the conference, not by a smaller subset of teams. The MAAC is a lesser conference than the A10. The day in day out level of competition is not the same as he would face in the A10. I think the only exception to this rule would be Gonzaga as they play a national schedule but are in a conference that is usually below the A10.

I hear what you're saying, but I also think about Iona - a senior graduating on that team in 2019 would have won 4 conference tournaments and been to the NCAAs 4 times. If a kid had offers from La Salle and Iona his March would have looked very different during his 4 years of college depending on which school he chose.

Hofstra was my guess. Who knows maybe Seton Hall goes for him. It’s a small gamble for them and they’re down from a year or 2 ago.
Ok. I think I take that back. I looked at his stats, 5.9ppg 3.6 rpg. Granted he did shoot 63% from the field. I think a Hofstra, rider Manhattan, Siena is his Avenue.

Jared be a nice fit with Delaware, they need a front line player that score in the post and rebound. Jared and Jameer Nelson son at Delaware, WATCH OUT.

It's a long shot, but I'd like to see Ash make a move to bring in a transfer like Xavier Johnson from Pitt.
The guy had some issues fitting in as a 1 guard in the Pitt system and with Capel in general; despite this, he scored the ball well in ACC play and generated a lot of assists. The complaint was TOs but hey his TO ratio is great compared to what we have.
I'd sell the guy on being a 2/combo and play him with Jig, not in lieu of. X could average 22+/game in A10 and has two years eligibility. He played in DC area, so location should be ok. A guy with big scoring stats can draw good pro money so that should be an incentive for X.
I believe Ash has to go outside the box on things like this. I know it sounds like a long shot but IMO many/most P6 schools will take a pass on X. The sell job is that the A10 is a good place to be THE big fish in a slightly smaller pond, we need someone who can score reliably and we can give him the freedom to be a star and we should. That scoring ability also would take the pressure off Clark and Kenney, allow Ray to be the glue guy without pressing 3s and enable Moore to play down low for short and medium range jumpers without pressing 3s.
Add a servicable big (I'd settle for a guy like Dean, a taller Bron Holland type who transferred to GW) or another scoring option and this group and our prospects look much better.
I still think Clark (sans rust next year), Kenney (without drawing the top defender), Jig (as is - he is an "incoming frosh"), Ray (playing his role and not forcing 3s) and Moore (playing more in the O post and shooting less on the arc), is a good group to build pieces around. Gill could help if he can work on finishing at the rim. This is true for him and others.
Also, all have to focus on getting to the paint and the rim far more - the key will be spacing, attack angles and dribbling out of (and not trying to finish through) double teams at the rim. Of course, better 3 shot selection has to be a focus. These will be key.

It also assumes they all play the roles they are cut out for and everything falls perfectly into place. Even with that, I think that team looks like a .500 team at best. And I have 0 confidence Kenney becomes disciplined and smart with the ball over night. No confidence moore adds 30 lbs. of muscle and becomes a strong post player. So now you’re left with Jig who I do have confidence in, Ray who is a fine 6th or 7th offensive option, Clark without rust (I think his ceiling still lowers a bit from our initial expectations) and Gill finishing at the rim? That doesn’t really sound like a particularly strong foundation to build on. Especially when the roster is pretty depleted after that.

I think he still has a pretty high ceiling. Don't forget, he had a severe ankle injury last year that kept him out of practice and he apparently wasn't cleared for full activity until September. So he lost a ton of time. As far as his defense, he could be the vaunted "rim protector" with more work. He finished the season with 33 blocks in 23 games, good for 7th in the league. He has a unique skill set that they can hopefully harness. Needs to work on footwork and low post moves but again he lost a ton of developmental time. I also think Tegra has some potential. Again, he didn't benefit from working with the coaching staff or his teammates the whole summer because of COVID. He is a big guy with not much experience who could be developed. Probably not much of an impact guy next year but with a solid off season of work he could be a contributor.

I think Tegra's projected development by Kimbrough may have been an incentive for Jarrod to move on. Seeing more lost minutes in the future to a guy more suited to and more comfortable with playing inside. Anyway, I am sure hoping Tegra can make this step . He is definitely a physical presence on the court. Jarrod is a bit of an enigma to me. How much was his inconsistency due to Jarrod ? How much was it our coaches inability to develop what he has to offer or to utilize his game in their game plan? I have no sense of what was the deal. In contrast to Ed's departure last year, Jarrod finished the season. This sits a whole lot better with me. Good luck Jarrod!

There is a problem! When you have players playing a ton of minutes and decides to transfer during the season and as soon as the season ends!! It's Alarming folks... Usually the players that transfer are guys rooted at the end of a bench or had a off the court issue but not starting or playing 25+min and say I'm leaving mid season or done when its over...Saul and Deas stuck it out and graduated between 2 coaches and never bat an eye...Coach G and Coach Ash has and had the same problems these past 5 years...
The previous coach was to loyal to his elder or senior guys to a default and didn't develop or trust his younger players and didn't make in-game adjustments...
This current coach was playing his inexperienced freshmen to much Example: last season when he played Kenney and Hikim Ray and said this will help next year by playing them win or lose but there was no teaching on how to play...playing hard is good but the IQ part was missing..Also you saw they hit a fatigue wall (Brickus had no legs down the stectch)...also his players saw no definitive development
Just looking for BALANCE and IMPROVEMENT from a coach..take 5 players and make 2 4stars players...take a team and make top tier or mid tier monster...Players can get better under the right tutelage from your coaches...better strength and conditioning coaches better X's and O's coaches better skills coaches better film sessions along with individual film sessions...All great coaches done this process and took a beating but went on and won at higher programs...
Stop looking for the 5star until you win and get a new arena...otherwise get transfers,Juco,3star, 2star,walk on, make them by year 4 possible 5star or NBA 2nd rounders or maybe late 1st.
This might be a tough off season for Ash..
