Man there are so many ways this thread can now go off the rails. I suppose instigating can be fun for some.

Got it, I worked for Coach in the City Controller’s race..51 years ago...I was wondering what I missed. I remember standing/waiting in line as a kid with my mother at the EJ Korvetes in northeast phila for what seemed like forever to get a chance to shake Tom Gola's hand as he campaigned, a momentous occasion going forward for my family. A local hero from the neighborhood for my mother. A basketball hero for my father (52 La Salle grad). But clearly, Gola was a big source of pride for the type of person he was to both.

Trump/Gola Arena? They were both Republicans... Glit...that makes sense in what context? Maybe he can get Mexico to pay for it.

GlitterBro #2 : Thomas Jefferson University has long had both B.S. ( Pre-Pharmacy Health Studies ) and Pharmacy Doctoral Programs. 67, I think the ship sailed on TJU when they combined with Philly U If we combined with them it would be us as the smaller fry acquiree and they would run the show after that 23won : I wasn't at all suggesting TJU as a potential merger partner for La Salle. I was simply responding to Glitter that there are actually already 3 Pharmacy Doctoral Programs in Philadelphia ( TJU, Temple and USciences / SJU ), rather than only 2.

With proposed St. Joe’s-University of Sciences merger, does local small college landscape change permanently?www.inquirer.com/sports/columnists/sciences-st-josephs-merger-sports-athletics-20210214.htmlIt didn’t start with the pandemic, these tectonic plates shifting underneath so many colleges, locally and around the nation. Mergers, outright closings, sports dropped. COVID-19 may have speeded up the necessity for some of it but the conditions already were in place.
So what does it mean for athletics? Let’s assume that for St. Joe’s, it won’t mean too much, except maybe some spiffy facilities to use in West Philadelphia, if you don’t mind the 15- or 20-minute shuttle ride.
When it comes to sports, this merger’s impact is more about Sciences, an NCAA Division II program that seems to be about to disappear.
Meanwhile, coaches all over the region tend to speculate privately about what might be the next shoe to drop, since few schools are immune to current financial pressures.
“It’s not a matter of if but when the next shoe drops, “one local coach said of the landscape, and the fight for survival. “I hope it isn’t us. So many schools are throwing Hail Marys.”

Had some offline conversations regarding this article and actually have a cousin on the U Sciences women’s team. Tough couple days.
With regards to La Salle, does the absence of a current President help or hurt the possibility of a merger. One less job lost.

I hate saying this, but this was a real smart move by St. Joe's. I think it positions them well for the future. In my opinion it also puts La Salle in serious jeopardy if they don't make a smart merger in the next few years.

The La Salle BOT may well have made a very shrewd move back in October in hiring Timothy G. O'Shaughnessy ' 85, CPA, MBA, former chief financial officer for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia ( 2012 - 2019 ), as La Salle University Executive Vice President : University announces additions, expanded roles for Executive Cabinetwww.lasalle.edu/blog/2021/02/02/university-announces-additions-expanded-roles-for-executive-cabinet/O'Shaughnessy stepped into the nearly impossible task back in 2012 of digging the Archdiocese out of, among other things : ( 1 ) the then recently discovered embezzlement of approx. $1 million between 2004 and 2011 by his immediate predecessor as Archdiocesan CFO Anita Guzzardi : www.inquirer.com/philly/news/homepage/20120129_Worker_accused_of_stealing__1_million_from_archdiocese_over_six_years.html ; and ( 2 ) The Archdiocese' $80 million unfunded Pensions deficit owed to the Association of Catholic Teachers Local 1776 union membership, as well as unfunded retirement pensions owed to all of the Diocesan priests, wherein the Archdiocese for years had not been making the mandatory Fund payments / deposits of the employer's share into the respective Pension Trust Funds under the CBA. At the time the Archdiocese faced impending civil and potentially criminal legal actions by both federal and state authorities. See : explorertown.proboards.com/thread/3758/josephs-open-another-school?page=2Scroll down to item / post # 12, dated 11/15/2020 While at that time it seemed unlikely that if Gwynedd Mercy University entered into a merger, land sale, long-term Lease and / or a partnership with the Archdiocese of Phila.'s Saint Charles Seminary ( SCS ), that GMU would want to or need to seek other merger partners, it may now be at least a possibility that with the presence and involvement of Tim O'Shaughnessy as La Salle University's Exec. VP, he may well be the optimum person to help broker a potential 3-way deal among La Salle, GMU and SCS, or alternatively, a 2-way deal between La Salle and Gwynedd Mercy, in the event Saint Charles Seminary opts ( once again ) to continue to look elsewhere. For example, O'Shaughnessy had been instrumental in The Archdiocese' protractive and complex negotiations leading to the ultimate sale of the Seminary property to Main Line Health. He has also served in the past on the Audit Committee of Holy Family University.
