If the season no show SLU squad actually shows up for their first NCAA run tune up game tonight against us, it will be interesting on several levels.
Team Question To be Answered
1) will we be able to play against a rusty and potentially unprepared team and win convincingly like we did against Fordham? I hope so and that is the optimism I’d be selling the team (on top of team building wins over UD and UR) to get this team going.
Big Questions for the Players
2) can Jig feel the confidence that he’s no longer a frosh, and repeatedly get into the paint against a physical and talented squad
3) can Sherif bring the next level play he is capable of playing and do it for 30 minutes consistently against a talented opponent? Ditto for Anwar? Challenge on!
4) can Jack be smart and find a way to emphasize on high percentage mid range shots and close in finishes, and not worry about rushing to get the rust off his 3 ball game (that is what the summer can be for)
5) can Ray continue adding quality shooting to his effective army jackknife style of play
6) can Cliff make outside shots at a greater pace (his percentages are awesome) and play strong in the low post
7) can Jared play smart around the rim and be effective with passing and clean up and keep out of foul trouble and neutralize (not necessarily win) the battle against the bigs
8-9) can Ash cycle in Scott for some instant offensive shots in the arm and Dave for leadership in controlled intervals while letting the players mentioned above get primary PT?
If we can win the majority of these battles and not let someone at SLU have a career night, this could be a transformative win to build from.

This game is all about us hitting our 3s. That's it. In their tune-up against Dayton last week, SLU was 3-13 from 3 while Dayton was 12-27 and still only managed to win by 5. With the game tied with about 4 minutes left, Crutcher went off and scored 14 of his 27 points. We don't have a Crutcher to lean on to take a game over late.

I like the optimism but I don't see us winning this game. I don't see how we can contain Hasahn French. The guy is an absolute beast inside.
Hoping for a battle and the line tells me that's gonna be the case.

Hoping for a battle and the line tells me that's gonna be the case. French is a career 34% foul shooter. Maybe in honor of John Chaney we should "send in the goons" and Hack-a-French

Maybe in honor of John Chaney we should "send in the goons" and Hack-a-French I'd let the big guys contain and not give up fouls and have the smaller guys with "help out" D and foul him if he gets a clear path to the hoop. Employ a haq a shaq strategy from positions 1 to 3, as we have good #s there and can spread the foul trouble among them. We're not so deep at 4/5, so I'd conserve fouls there.

We can use Izay as a big body on him to try to muscle him around a bit. Ed did well on him last year in The Gola when we went to OT.

Glitter with a Luis Zendejas reference. Maybe the first ever in the board. Luis was no Spencer Haywood.

bad call on Brickus, O foul.
getting some decent shots and some in close but just not hitting with any consistency. And starting to sleep on D. 6 down and TO to stop the bleeding

5 1/2 left in the half, tied at 26. Both teams shooting over 50% and no one on either team has more than 6 points.

It's always a "Family Affair" in St. Louis when Mr. French is on the court.

Guess people either forgot the starting time, or assumed we'd get beat bad.
Explorers lead by 4 at the half. Jack woke up a little and leads the way with 10 and Beatty has 7. For the Bills, Jacobs and Thatch have 6 apiece. The legend of French has 2 points, 2 assists, 2 fouls and ZERO rebounds.
Explorers at 48% from the field and SLU has cooled to 40.6% from the field.

nice to see the block shots we are getting. their cutters driving to the basket are not leading to automatic scores.

Cliff is having a monster game. This game is being won so far by fundamentals, I am seeing great box outs and great effort on the defensive end.
