So that other thread will be for comments regarding Colleen, while we’ll use this one for discussion about the next president and the search.
Thanks.

About 8 years ago, I was asked for my input as to who would be an ideal successor to Bros. Mike. I seriously suggested Ed Rendell (as a figurehead, of course). I have not been asked for my opinion since.
By the way, Fast Eddie has aged out and I wouldn’t make that suggestion now.
Agree, somebody like the Mount St. Mary’s leader would be ideal.

The president at Mount St Mary’s would certainly be worth a look. He turned around a very small university in the middle of nowhere and has built buildings, the endowment, and the enrollment. La Salle needs a strong leader to follow up on what Colleen did to staunch the bleeding.

Mt St Mary’s is small. Over half the size of La Salle. He is impressive though.

Throwing a name out there. Miguel Martinez-Saenz from St. Francis Brooklyn. Urban campus. Their enrollment has risen lately. Very outspoken and visible. Minority candidate. Under 50.

Trainor seems like an outstanding choice.
Maybe William Burns, our alum and now CIA appointee for Biden, can put in a good word for us.
We need structure, focus and execution. This is Trainor. He also has an MBA from Fuqua, so that experience and insight could help improve the Biz School and aid in developing a leadership focus for our programs.

exactly my point. He has their enrollment going one way, and ours is going another way.

exactly my point. He has their enrollment going one way, and ours is going another way. I mean, the vast majority of schools saw a drop. And I'm not arguing against him. I don't think he'd take it. He's also a little older than I'd like.

Numbers of enrollments is a very tough one to use as a criteria for choosing a President. Each school represents different challenges. ( Size, location, cost, attractions, etc) IMO- The person with the best realistic vision for a school like La Salle( with it’s many challenges) would be the best choice. The committee, which makes this decision, has a very difficult job ,ahead of them.

I think a current university president will buy us time, but I don’t think is the best route for the university. Colleen got us thinking and doing things different. We need someone to piggy back off of that mentality, someone that knows and appreciates higher ed, but also knows and appreciates a successful business. College enrollment is not going up anytime soon. La Salle needs to again get creative in their approach. Something like bringing Chestnut Hill College or Arcadia in, partnering with trade schools for business degrees leading to entrepreneurial endeavors. A good university president can keep us afloat. A great (business) leader can springboard us in front of competition and move us up in the rankings (endowment, enrollment, graduates, etc.).

This is probably way out of left field, but what about Jay Wright? I realize he has absolutely no ties to La Salle other than Ash, but high profile Philly area guy that has absolutely no baggage. He looks a bit bored coaching these days.

So a basketball coach who has already been on probation and hasn't won much of anything without his top assistant? No thanks.

I figured we'd get to someone suggesting G, but Jay Wright took me off guard, I'll be honest.

You do wonder if St. Joseph's of PA might look to move on from Lange and consider some the top assistants from the best major programs.

So a basketball coach who has already been on probation and hasn't won much of anything without his top assistant? No thanks. Define "hasn't won much of anything". He's 58-18 without his top assistant. 1-1 in the only NCAA tournament that was played since Ash left. Recruiting violations that occurred over a decade and a half ago. Again...."recruiting violations". So you reunite him with his top assistant, and you bring instant credibility to the program. Within 5 years you'd have a Top 25 ranked La Salle Explorers playing in the grand spanking new "Wright Fieldhouse". Endowments, enrollment increase. Fundraising? No problem. Connections throughout the city and tri state area, let alone the country. It'd be a seamless transition for Jay. Just have him put together a diverse team, create a Vision, and go at it. I mean, isn't that what we all want? Or should we continue to scour the St. Vincent Universities of the world, and see if we can lure their top guy/gal away?

1. Averaged more than double the number of losses in the two years post-Howard as the five years during Howard 2. Less NCAA tournament wins post-Howard than championships with Howard 3. The violations were not recruiting, unless there was another instance of probation I'm forgetting about
Unless he can hire Ash Howard as his vice president of the university, hard pass on Wright as president.
