Indy, Texas or Florida are fine; possibly Iowa or Mizzou due to central location. Need to go with a red state or a wacky city mayor or gubnor could shut it down. Go red or run the risk of two years of lost revenue at $2 Billion.
So ... they will probably pick (1) DC (our 51st state), Maryland and VA and have it there or (2) annex Puerto Rico (our 52nd state)and have it there. Or better yet. make both states and celebrate by having it in DC and PR. :-)

The way things are going( Covid), I just hope there is a a regular season, not even thinking about NCAA tournament.

There was a mention of this on NPR last night when I was driving home from work. It might have been on a show called Marketplace that I heard it. They mentioned the idea of playing the NCAA tournament in a bubble and then went on to say that the NCAA has revenue of $600 million+ and the men's NCAA basketball tournament brings in north of $400 million (some money of course is shared with the schools). That means that for 2020, without the tournament, they had only 1/3 of the revenue they normally have. That's why they want the season to happen so badly this year and thus the bubble.

68 teams need a hotel room. I'm guessing they need no fewer than 4 gyms, plus practice facilities, for some first round games to happen simultaneously. Dayton is gutted by the decision, losing the first four a second straight year costs them a few million in tourism as a region. Philadelphia was also scheduled to host a sweet16 site this year, but that will be scrapped.

I feel like even if you tried to make it in a less densely populated area, you would still need to have a good airport situation and lots of hotel space, so your options would be really limited.

68 teams need a hotel room. Sounds pretty cramped!

I like Pitinos suggestion. Wait a few months to start the season, and gear up for May Madness. You'll have a better idea by mid January where this thing is going, and whether a vaccine is readily available. No reason to start up, only to potentially shut down a month into it if things don't improve.

Makes sense Pitino wouldn't want it to drag on too long.

Can the All Star Music/Sports/Movies hotels hold 68 teams? The last time I was there was senior year spring break in high school and it felt like there were a few thousand other philly catholic school kids there at once.

Could Pitino be the Fauci health whisperer of MCBB? He must be getting edumacated now that he has a small school hoops budget that doesn't fund distractions like spending for high end restaurants and strippers. Stay tuned.
