Joe was a classic La Salle 'good guy.' Always kind, cordial and positive when I would talk with him at La Salle Men's Basketball games through the years.
I first met him sometime in the mid-1960s. He was working at the Kendrick Recreation Center in Roxborough and got stuck working with me (and others) to teach us basketball fundamentals. He taught better than I learned! It was so memorable to this young kid because Joe was a key member of the La Salle College team where he built his 'defensive specialist' reputation by holding Syracuse (and future NBA) star, Dave Bing, to 8 points in a 1964 two point Explorer win.
Not mentioned in the obituary, but Joe's uncle was the local Roxborough legend, John Boyce, who mentored thousands of young baseball players to become better players and even better people (much like Joe). Great family!
Rest in Peace, Joe. I'll miss seeing you at future La Salle games.
