Simmons, Brooks, Townes, Woods, Duren.
Someone mentioned on another thread La Salle’s excellence using social media was spot on. I am very impressed with whomever is running it. This particular one is engaging and fun and really drives Explorer hoops discussion. Well done.

Simmons Durrett Galloway Duren Woods
Play Galloway a ton on the perimeter and use Duren, Galloway and Woods for ball pressure and get out in transition. Lots of spacing for Train to operate and Durrett to do whatever he wants, guarantee that’s a Final 4 squad.

Simmons, Durrett, Gola and then I’ll go off board and take Larry Foust and Ralph Lewis (glaring omissions along with Corace, Fatty and Bernie)
I loved Jackie Hurd but he can’t be $2 when Randy and Doug are $1!
Still, fun topic and loved that they did this

I'm plunking down $10 for Tom Gola and Lionel Simmons. $4 for Jack Hurd and Ramon Galloway. The last $1 is a bargain for Doug Overton.
Truth be told, it'd be hard to go wrong with any of the guys that board.

Can you pick somebody out of the 20 for a $0 price tag?? Bernie Williams would be a bargain at that price.

Statistically, doesn't belong. Before my time though. Damn good player, but not on the level of most of the others here. Was definitely not as good as Doug or Randy, who are both cheaper here. Jack couldn't miss when he was a freshman or senior, but his shot abandoned him his soph year when he moved from SG to SF. played on great teams, busted his ass and knocked down a ton of shots, though. might've had the quickest release in program history and at 6'6" had a high release with it, too. was a little slow of foot but had really quick hands on defense and wasn't afraid to mix it up. usually your sharpshooters aren't guys willing to do all the dirty work he did.

Scored 27 PPG in 1965-66 before making way for Larry Cannon and Bernie Williams the following season and going down to 21 PPG www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/hubie-marshall-1.html

Upon close inspection...I think that is Bernie Williams pic in the Ken Durrett slot. This kind of thing happens. I have been mistaken for George Clooney.

Duck's name, unfortunately, came up a few weeks ago in this NY Times piece: www.nytimes.com/2020/03/28/sports/basketball/coronavirus-college-basketball-players-ncaa.htmlHe was one of a handful of early 90s NYC college basketball players to die from covid-19 after a birthday gathering.

Lionel and Michael for $5 ea. Stevie Black for $3 (one of my all time favorite players. He was electric!) Doug Overton and Randy Woods for $1 ea. are a steal.
Lots of offense, good defense and strong rebounding. The bigger problem is there's only 1 ball.

I don't remember him as I was too young to follow La Salle at the time but his stats and from what I have heard his play was elite.

When he had the ball in his hand and he put his head down to drive to the hoop, you knew it was going in. As a guard, he shot 50% from the field with a lot of his shots being from well beyond the 3 pt. line (which didn't exist when he played). He shot 82% from the line. He could also elevate and throw down some crazy tomahawk dunks. He and Ralph Lewis were a great 1 - 2 punch back in the early 80's.

88, I feel the same way about Durrett. Kenny was a little before most posters time so I get that most never got to see him play. Nothing like being in a sold out Palestra and hearing the crowd chanting Doo-rett. Steve Black was another player before most posters time. If the three point shot had been in effect his stats would be even more amazing than they already are. This made me realize how many truly great players played here.

Steve Black was an incredible player. Could literally score from anywhere on the court. As stated, there was no 3pt shot when he played. He could have easily had 300 more career points PLUS he made then from 24 feet. Nothing cheap. He was a career .504 from the field. Think about that. His Jr and Sr years he shot better than 52% from the field.
Might need some help on this but I recall watching the Explorers play at Western Kentucky. Steve did something to his foot (might have broken it) in the first half. Chip Greenberg was now the main man in the backcourt and guess what? He does something to his foot. Got fouled at the horn to end the first half. Chip can't shoot the free throws. Enter Steve Black hopping to the line. He converts two free throws. La Salle goes on to win the game.
I see Steve at Gola from time to time. Suggestion to Kale, maybe a good halftime guest.

Thanks for starting this thread. Really makes you think plus brings back names from the past.
I wish I had $60.
Gola ($5), Durrett($5), Black($3), Woods ($1) and Overton ($1). That's today. Tomorrow could be different.
Fatty Taylor should on the list for at least $1.
Maybe I'll start a thread on Larry Faust.

I used to watch games on channel 12 and he would be shooting from outside the gym knocking them down easily. Probably more like 500 additional points. He was that great of a distance shooter. His 19’9” shot was money. Great player.

Have heard he's one of the best dunkers in school history, too. Knocks on him were chronic injuries (18 games completely missed and a handful of others with minutes curtailed, which shows just how much better his stats could have been if healthy) Attachment Deleted and never got much better from frosh to senior year (unlike Ralph Lewis, who developed like crazy during same time period, going from walk-on to NBA player). Attached screenshot has all his games with more than 25 points. He could definitely fill it up!

there's been so many good players at la salle, it's hard to believe how many didn't get on this chart:
truck butts, jim crawford, bobby fields, larry foust, daryl gladden, chip greenberg, kurt kanaskie, alonzo lewis, ralph lewis, hubie marshall, billy taylor, fatty taylor, victor thomas, k'zell wesson, bernie williams and charlie wise. and there's more.
from the chart, i'll take durrett, simmons, black, overton and woods.

He missed one game as FR and 4 games as a JR. None as a SR. No stats on minutes played his FR year but the next three were 31.9 and 36 & 36. Yeah he didn't improve much but maybe he didn't take away from Ralph either? Could have been one of the greatest ball hogs but wasn't. FR 20.0 ppg .487 fg% SO 20.1 ppg .457% JR 19.1 ppg .514% SR 19.7 ppg .521%
