I wanted to add this to a "welcome to La Salle" thread but didn't see one for Anwar. Only thing close was "signing alert".
So I started this rather than tease people by putting it in the " 2020 Recruiting"
Not a lot of complete game video that I could find on Anwar. That just goes to show how great Rawsports. com is covering local players. I did find lots of HS clips. So here are some observations.
I have been a huge fan of J. Brickus's offensive game for a long time. Anwar is not that kind of offensive player BUT he is that kind of defensive player. Anwar has two outstanding traits that you see over and over in these clips of mostly WCAC games. First, he NEVER gives up. If the opponent "thinks" they have an easy layup FORGET it. Anwar time and time again races down and BLOCKS the shot. I've seen clips where he is at least 20 feet behind the play and winds up blocking the shot. He also stands his ground in the lane and blocks shots. What a gift.
Second thing that really jumped out to me was his ability to create steals. He has long arms but he has really quick hands. He's a pickpocket. I cringe a little when he tries that wrap around strip. I say that because I think he can get away with that in HS but D-1 officials always seem to give the offensive player the benefit on that play. Heck, keep doing it. We all know Ashley likes to press and his teams generate a decent amount of steals. Anwar fits in well on the press. (In looking at stats I saw that La Salle had 4-5 players in the top 20 for steals in the A10).
Offensively, a lot of clips saw him slashing to the basket. Doesn't matter where around the arc he starts he takes it to the hoop with either hand. He finishes PERIOD and with either hand.
His outside shot was almost exclusively from three point range. Most from the wing to top of the key. I didn't see any mid range jumpers. He took a couple of step back 3's.
