Great pick-up for Ash. First of the 2021 class.
Per his Instagram page, 2021 St. Thomas More (CT) and @wer1basketball wing Derrius Ward has committed to La Salle. The Philly native and former @sankofa_sports star gives Ashley Howard a dynamic athlete on the wing with plenty of upside as a creator and shot-maker

Very athletic, aggressive offensive player! Plays downhill ALL the time... A lil' wild at times while at Sankofa, I'm sure a year in the New England Prep League has helped him immensely... Very good get for La Salle!

i really like coach ash's recruiting formula. the rosters over the next few years will mainly be a nice mix of philly and d.c. area kids. lots of tough, gritty players come out of both areas.
philly - david, jack, clifton, christian, jhamir, derrius, and jared who is from the central jersey shore area d.c. - scott, ayinde, sherif, anwar, and tegra brandon is a pittsburgh area kid but he gives us a face up 4 skill set that no one else on the roster does

Big plus is Ward is a big guard at 6"6 and with Gill counters Hikim and Brickus' quickness but smaller size. This is a much needed commitment long-term.
You can start to see Ash's massaging of the roster to what he wants. He also has recruiting momentum. Man if he can get our freshmen to take the next step along with Brandon Stone to a point where he can consistently get 20 minutes a night and shoot close to 40% from 3 and help loosen defenses with the quickness of our small guards we might have something brewing at 20th & Olney.
I do expect him to fill the last scholarship before summer starts. Then it is all about continued development of a roster of his guys.

Typical apologist ... Ash couldn't even be bothered to FINISH his second season and you think things are looking up???
I love the big wing profile. Seems like we've had some nice gets over this break.

He honestly should be recruiting more. He should be able to land Jalen Green IMO.

Good profile. The "makes open shot" comment jumped out at me. I think Ash can teach attitude, which was the only negative that jumped out to me. Also good effort on the part of Ash and team because we offered last year and were able to reel him in after a PG year at a good NE prep feeder to P5/BE programs. Love the fit part of his announcement.
