I met him on campus while he was a student at La Salle. A real gentleman and mature beyond his years. He got us a lot of national attention.

nice article about a true legend who is every bit as humble as the article described.
too bad that that tool bag angry al felt the need to post disparaging comments attached to this article about la salle basketball and the many fine players we've haď over the years. i wish i knew who that guy was so i could personally punch him in the face. he's an embarrassment.

It's funny. I was thinking about Simmons the day before this article. To get some kind of sports fix I was watching ESPN's story on Bobby Hurley. The highlights of Hurley's rookie season on the Kings included a number of passes to Simmons finishing at the rim. Ironically, that season was the last really productive year for both Simmons and Hurley due to injuries. Train's first four years in the NBA were really productive. He was runner up to that dog, Derrick Coleman, for rookie of the year and averaged double digit points, around 7 rebounds and 3 or 4 assists for 4 seasons before getting hurt. Obviously an all around player. I don't think he played a complete season after those first 4. The last game at Gola I watched him and OGBJ limp out of the arena.

Lionel and C-Webb are the only players in NBA history to average at least 15 PPG, 7 RPG, 4 APG, 1.0 BPG and 1.5 SPG through 4 seasons: bkref.com/tiny/ye4PJTrain could fill up a box score like few ever

I may have posted this elsewhere so sorry if I did. At the Dayton game two older Dayton fans approached me and asked if that was Lionel Simmons sitting near me. When I replied it was they asked if I thought he would mind getting his picture taken with them. I replied that he's a nice guy and probably wouldn't mind. Sure enough he agreed and spent a couple minutes joking with them. Proud that he's an explorer!
