Gary Smith (like La Salle '75?) was just elected to Delaware Sports Hall of Fame. This is by far his least significant honor. He has been given many honors over the years as a national sportswriter. linkHas he ever been honored by La Salle? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gary_Smith_(sportswriter)

This is my favorite piece written by Gary. It's also my favorite article written about life in Philadelphia. It absolutely captures what life was like here during the Phils big run -- when Philly emerged from being a laughingstock into becoming one of the coolest cities in the country. God, how I miss those years. There was ALWAYS something to do, and that was watch the Phils. It also hilariously captures the Pub on Passyunk East (POPE), which was a hangout spot for me and my friends at the time, much to my chagrin. But please read this story. It's so good. vault.si.com/vault/2011/10/03/were-in-baseball-heaven

I am still mystified that the Phillies of that era only got one World Series ring.
