Hubie played for the Explos in the first in person game I saw at the Palestra. I believe that Joe Heyer was the coach....he appeared to be not much older than Hubie and the rest of the Explos…. I am pleased to say that I also saw that game at the Palestra. Hubie was a real gentleman on campus, and a pleasure to watch on the court.

think of it this way. kudos to saul for helping out at the point the last couple of years, but with these three on the roster, coach ash will be able to always have someone on the floor with natural point guard abilities, plus kenney and brickus are capable at playing off the ball as well. My only concern really is Brickus' height when he plays SG. Will he be able to get his shot off against a higher level of competition that on average will be bigger and stronger than the players he's faced before? Believe me, I'm really happy they got him, but I'm curious about that aspect at the A-10 level. Someone mentioned it before, but did you see Richmond this year? They had 2 very good guards under 6'. The height isn't a concern for me, if both guys play hard and are smart, you can offset that. I also doubt both play 40 minutes a game for 3 years.

If they're good enough to flip the advantage, where other teams have to contain them versus us having to cover for their size, its a big win. It still feels like the Nova plan with team defense and perimeter shooting driving the gameplan. If Spencer and (someone) become legit threats from three, and our big at the time can stretch, that opens up the lane and we can go wild.

You need a big wing defender on the floor if both small guards are on the floor. I have to say the thought of those two on the floor offensively is pretty exciting as that really could be very hard to guard if they get any consistent outside game. At the very least we should not be crying about getting good shots with both on the floor. They should be there.

I don’t know big there’s a stat for it, but I thought the offense got a lot of good looks this year. The biggest issue with the roster is consistent ability to make open shots. The offense wasn’t flawless by any means but the poor shooting wasn’t exclusively because of offensive design. The roster could play 5-on-0 taking the same shots and still be wildly inconsistent I bet. Until there are more consistent shooters, not streaky ones, there will be complaints about the offensive scheme.

Stone could be an under-rated three point marksman. And draw his defender out from near the basket.

I didnt see a lot of Brickus shooting in his highlights, mostly driving. If him and Hakim can just be 30-33% from 3pt we will be FINE. Stone will be better, Ray I think will be able to shoot decently and then Beatty, Spencer, Kenney as the biggest threats, that is very encouraging. Problem with Hikim and Crosswell/Kimbrough on the floor last year was there were always 2 guys left to shoot the 3. Teams could also cheat off Ray which really limited the spacing. Kenney still needs some more consistency, but if Stone becomes a very good shooter (which I think he is close) and Ray, Brickus, Hikim can make open shots, the paint will be clear for Brickus/Hikim to drive and then JK and Moore to work on the block.

My guess is that Christian Ray becomes the sniper next year.

I binge watched Coatesville basketball yesterday. Here are my observations after watching four games. Last year's game vs Chester (where he scored 52), the Distrist 1 Finals vs Lower Merion and their PIAA 6A loss to Kennedy Catholic. This year's PIAA 6A opening game loss to Roman. I know some would argue but to me that's a pretty good four game sample.
By my score keeping:
Against Chester JB was 16-27 from the field including 5-8 from 3. 15-19 from the line. Only negative was 9 TO's. Lower Merion- he was 6-13 from the field including 2-5 from 3. 6-9 from the line. Only 2 TO's. Had 8 rebounds. Kennedy Catholic- he was 6-16 from the field including 3-7 from 3. 5-6 from the line.
I don't have good stats from the Roman video. I had him for 8-13 from the field including 3-7 from 3. 5-5 from line.
Chester game was helter skelter so the 9 TO's ( 2 Off fouls) are not concerning to me. He didn't have more than 2 in any of the other three games.
Lower Merion was a fine team.
Kennedy Catholic had three solid D-1 players on their State Championship team. So that was a good game to compare how he would do at the next level. What made it more worthwhile is KC used 6-5 Duquesne player Maceo Austin to guard him man-to-man for most of the game.
Roman is well Roman. Stacked with D-1 players. They sent fresh bodies at him the whole game. They used a kid off the bench who clearly was in there for his five fouls. Played JB very very physical. Lots of pushing and hand checking. Clearly Griffin was trying to get into JB's head and frustrate him. In all the games I watched JB never lost his composure. Only twice in this game did he even show some frustration.
Overall, JB was 23-42 inside the arc. This is huge because for the last few years La Salle 2FG% has been horrible. This kid will finish. Get him on a breakout and it's either a bucket, foul or both. Has Ty Garland speed. This kid draws fouls. He gets to the line a lot. I had him 31-39 the line which is 79.5%. I bet in the last 4 minutes he's better than 80%. From 3, I had him 13-27 which is 48.1%.
In the games I watched he only took 2-3 what I consider "bad shots." He plays a very controlled game. He doesn't force things but let's face it he's a scorer. He also makes 3's from everywhere around the arc. No one sweet spot.
The most underrated aspect to his game is his passing ability. I had him down for maybe 5-6 assists in the four games. No knock against his teammates but when he threads the needle they either miss the shot, turn it over or pass up the shot. A friend of mine who also watched some of the same games said "watch him when he has better players."
Okay I hope that helps.
Also great halftime interview with Del during the Chester game where he sort of predicted a year ago that La Salle and Ash was the best place for him. Prophetic.
Take care.
EDIT I found out that JB was 5-5 from the line vs Roman. The video didn't show. I made corrections where appropriate.

Awesome breakdown on the JB games. Gives us something to be excited about during this otherwise awful tome. I wasn’t entirely sure of his speed just because of how the short clips were that I saw. If he has ty garland speed and quickness, that could be huge for us. I don’t care if he and Ayinde are the 2 smallest guys on the court. If they’re also the two quickest on the court, everything will be fine. Love the control too. That was my one early knock on Ayinde and even kenney to start, just a little rushed and out of control.

I know it's a highlight reel but man can he handle and pass the ball. He's fearless inside too, just like Ayinde. This could be really entertaining over the next few years.
