I’ll be honest, kinda surprised here. I was expecting Jared to transfer because he just hasn’t looked great this season. Hope this doesn’t mean there’s some deep rooted problem, rather just Ed not being happy. Going into next year with just Moore, JK, and Stone really concerns me. Hopefully Ash has had some bigs on campus, some good ones, and they were going to take a lion share of Ed’s time. Just trying to give myself a positive spin. I also don’t see how this could reflect well for Ed. Although most D1 coaches don’t care about image too much.

Statement from the school: La Salle University sophomore forward Ed Croswell has left the men's basketball program to pursue other opportunities, he announced Friday. "Ed Croswell is a great kid and was a valued member of this basketball program," head coach Ashley Howard said. "We wish Ed and his family nothing but the best moving forward." goexplorers.com/news/2020/2/28/croswell-leaving-mens-basketball-program.aspx

Croswell has every right to transfer but being the best player on a struggling team doesn't make him a power 5 player. He's an undersized big who I believe was playing at his level. More athletic bigs like Moore and Forrester have determined there will be more opportunities at La Salle and Temple. I appear to be in the minority here but I think Croswell may regret this decision.

I’m trying to recall a team from that former coach having a good offense. Sweet 16 team was 34th in the nation in Pomeroy's adjusted offense. That was more due to having superior players like Galloway and Duren who could score at will than having a well coached offense.

let's pray that the new immediately eligible transfer rule gets approved. Be careful what you wish for. That door swings both ways.

The timing of this thing was a big fuck you to his teammates and coaches. That's my only gripe. I'm for guys getting one free transfer, and another if the head coach leaves. Leaving the team in the 2nd semester before the season is over is quitting. Good luck, I hope it works out

Ed unhappy? Why wouldn't he be? This falls entirely on the coach. It doesn't matter Ed isnt Ash's recruit, he clearly one of your best players if not the best on the team. And hes fighting for minutes over Kimbrough Stone and Ray? What a JOKE.
This is what happens when you dont establish a consistent lineup and you play freshman major minutes in order for them to "grow"
I agree with the other posters who have said the veterans need to play majority of minutes while our freshman earn their time. It doesnt matter that deas and saul havent been "winning" players. They've earned the right to start and lead. Why are we rewarding freshman minutes when its clear they havent deserved the time? Ash mixing in lineups for no rhyme or reason would infuriate me as well. If Ed isnt in foul trouble he should been getting 30 - 35 minutes a game. Not go long spells on the bench to watch other guys (who hes better than) take his time away and not perform. All while the guy bust his ass on both ends of the floor and is awesome at offensive rebounding.
Im losing faith in Ash. This year is a huge step back. Good luck to Ed. Whatever school he goes to is getting a hard working guy who will help make a team better.

You are right. Fuck him!!! I actually spit out my water laughing at this. He doesn't play above the rim enough to transfer up. On a bright side, and I'm reaching here, Ed leaving allows us to get more athletic in the post. Could not agree more with this. Was actually waiting until the end of the season to post how we need to get more athletic upfront. Can't see him transferring up. (Still wish him well).

This really sucks. With that being said, I don't think any of us here know anything remotely close to the full story. Time will tell what really happened here, but for now, it's a real head scratcher.

There appears to be a culture problem in this program. Ash is at the end of year 2, has had numerous transfers, and now a major one from one of leading scorers and the top rebounder. The team is just giving up at various points during games and letting opponents go on double-digit runs against them. The lineups are like musical chairs, and there appears to be no offensive system in place that anyone can pinpoint. Maybe there are others things at play here with Ed, I don't know, but why couldn't Ash or Donnie convince him to stick it out through the end of the season?
What about what we've seen this year makes us excited to renew our season tickets for next year when one of top players in the program isn't even interested in sticking around for the end of this season?

Good luck, I hope it works out Obviously something happened to bring this on where he tells everyone at La Salle today he is transferring. Despite our struggles over the years players transferring out was generally not an issue with this program. G once told me players transfer almost exclusively because of the coach. Usually the coach did not like the player or the player did something the coach did not approve of number 1. Number 2 was the coach was not up front with the player during the recruiting process. I am not sure what the issue is here but on the surface it looks a lot like Ed and Ash did not see eye to eye.

it looks a lot like Ed and Ash did not see eye to eye. That's because Ash had to stand on a chair to see eye to eye with him...

Two things:
I was never a fan of G's offense
Ed wasn't a beneficiary of our poor shooting. He's led the country in offensive rebound "percentage" the last two seasons. So how many misses were available is already accounted for there. So long as he's not expecting to get postup opportunities and is content to set big screens and hit the glass, he can play just about anywhere. Main issue would that the team would have to have some rim protection elsewhere on the roster and/or a rim protecting 5 that can also stretch the D. Tough for a big man in modern game to not be able to step outside or protect the rim. All the best to him, though. He was far from our best ballyhooed recruit in recent years, but grinded his way to a big impact. We'll miss him.

I won't go so far as to say there is a culture problem but the body language at tipoff and throughout the home Richmond game was very negative. I'd venture to say that this negative chemistry carried over to the subsequent SLU and Davidson games. That could have a factor in what's at play here, but no one can really be sure outside the locker room. In any event, regardless of source, it's a negative for the program.

You really think there's not an issue with this when players leave and then a top one leaves with 4 games left in the season? Not buying it. As season ticket holders we've been asked to BELIEVE. What are we believing in now? If we lose out, does Ash get a pass because Ed left. If next year is a setback, does Ash get a pass because Ed left? Losing for the next 2 years is OK right, because we would've had Ed so it isn't Ash's fault. I'd have taken a steady Carter this year while Hikim and Kenney learned how to play college ball.

Probably saw his minutes diminishing next year due to Clifton Moore being in fold in 20/21. Quite honestly, I thought we'd see a big jump in Ed's play this year, especially in A10 play. Didn't happen. It inched up a bit, but he was not the factor I thought he would be going into conference play. JK can spell him for the remainder of the season and I'm interested to see how JK responds. Prob see more minutes from Stone as well. Maybe that was Ash's plan, told Ed, and Ed didn't like it. Who knows.

Glad you are in the meetings with Ash to know that the guys who left like Carter weren't going to play, and that you are not speculating...or just keep putting your head in the sand and blaming the refs like you seem to do in the game threads.

Jesus ... this is the first bad transfer for Howard. Losing Osun sucked but he was standard coaching turnover and the guys who left after last year wouldn't have changed things this year.

Hard to say it’s a culture problem. The only players to transfer out were not Ash’s players. Cain, Jamir, Miles, Ed, Traci, etc. none were recruited by Ash. Sure Ash probably talked Ed into staying. But that’s not to say he still wants him or still fit the plans. I think it’s hard to say a culture problem, it’s hard to say that when half the team aren’t ash’s players. You have to give it another year at least before we say the whole program has a culture problem. You have no clue what Ed did or what drama was going on in the locker room at practice. Etc.

Yes, Traci Carter doesn’t make a big difference. Ash was wise to find his point guard and play him this year. He needed better players and Hikim could possibly be the type of player he needs.

This is a big deal.
So far the Howard era has shown me nothing to get upset about, but nothing to get excited about. This is the first thing that makes me concerned about the future of the team. Huge loss.
Good luck to Ed and thanks for two good seasons.
