"You can learn little from victory. You can learn everything from defeat." - Christy Mathewson
In light of that quote, its hard not to view Fordham as a lost opportunity for knowledge and growth.

The A-10 rankings don't care about about how we win. What day our first game is doesn't care how many ugly wins we have. Hell, if we stacked up enough wins, it's hard to imagine the selection committee would even look down on this win. Win on the road. Control the game, even if doing so ugly, I'll take it.

I like this board but sometimes I feel it becomes a bit ridiculous when disagreements occur. I agree with both sides. Wins are always great if you are a La Salle basketball fan and this is a young team still to endure many growing pains. God knows we have had to endure many losses and mediocre seasons of late. We all should agree that we are heading in the right direction and that's exciting for the future. There have been some games this year where we gave up large second half leads but held on. I think that's a bit concerning, but the end results were positive. Glitter is correct not to be over-excited about this win. It was Fordham and we saw an 18pt second half lead dwindle to a 6 pt. win. We should have won by 25. Good teams would have stepped on the throat of Fordham, they were depleted and not very good even if they were at full strength. Let's just move on with this and on to UMass.

My problem is the optics. "We saw a lead of 18 dwindle to 6" always focuses on the negative, never that the early lead proved to put the game out of reach. And if the flipside pacing happened, the narrative would be replaced with "they kept it within 6 until garbage time". Unless we beat a ranked team in buzzer-to-buzzer, dominant fashion, there's always something. Not all wins are great wins, but the present day La Salle Explorers don't have bad wins. We're not good enough (yet?).

We have some people on here ready to have a parade down 20th street for beating Fordham. If that's what gets us excited, let's go back to the MAAC. That's my point. The "horseshit" came from John Wooden where he mentioned that wins and losses should not equate to victory and defeat as they are impostors in defining competitive success, and if you let yourself get excited by wins where the effort and execution was sloppy, you are missing the bigger picture - but I guess he doesn't know basketball at all and we should disregard his thoughts. Oh FFS, your first sentence is complete bullshit. No one even inferred that. spot on
