Man, the first 30+ seconds of the game really made me think we could contain their offense and stick with them, but once they got clicking and we couldn’t hit anything, all down hill. Am I allowed to say it was at least “enjoyable” to watch Dayton as an example of a top tier basketball team?

I am not one to point fingers at officiating for the result of a game. That Dayton team was better than us, they are REALLY good. It'd be great for the conference if they keep this up and end up with a 3-4-5 seed in March. I will say this about the officiating though, the fouls were 1-5 us-dayton. About 8 minutes later it was 9-5 us-Dayton. When there are 8 consecutive fouls called, its hard to recover. That also I believe is when Dayton went on the 24-2 or so run. Overall, some very positive things, I think we can hang with any other team in the conference, not sure about VCU but we looked like a 120-140 team playing a top 15-20 team, and I can't really be mad about that. We just need to get back to playing our game, not shooting a deep 3 10 seconds into the shot clock and take care of business with the teams he can handle, which is most of the conference.

This guy is a 1st round pick, and if he stays one more year, could be lottery, but I think he goes. Most mocks already have him in the lottery, so you have to imagine he’s gone. After seeing him in person last night, I'd agree. He's very, very smooth. Very talented. I'd be shocked if he's not a lottery pick this year. I thought Grant was an idiot for putting him back in the game with about 6 minutes left. Dayton clearly had the game won, so there was no reason to expose your star player to injury in mop up time. Some of the Dayton fans were obnoxious as hell at the game, but most of them were pretty good. Pretty good turnout by our fans all things considered.

To be fair, right around that 5 to 1 foul advantage I texted that we'd gotten literally every call to that point. Then it all fell apart.

I thought the Dayton fans were fine. No one was remotely close to being an a-hole after they smacked us by 24. Pretty well behaved bunch IMO.

I too thought the Dayton fans were okay. Two gentlemen who sat near me approached Lionel and asked him if they could have their picture taken with him. They were all smiles and thanked him. Respect!

There was one really stupid la salle fan (I think a student) who made some comment to Obi going into the locker room at half time about how he will be in the G League. I've never heard a more moronic statement. Toppin might be the best college player I've seen in person. Cleanthony Early was good but not quite as athletic, Villanova has had good players but again, not a 6'9 freak athlete that can shoot the piss out of the ball.

It has been many years since seeing a guy like Toppin outshine everyone on the Gola floor like that. You take him off the court, a much closer game.
68% vs 32% from the field in first half. Everything else fairly even about the game.

Tough watch last night, our guys were just physically over-matched by a really good team. I think they got tight and were a little slow to take shots a times, when they weren't able to drive. Not a ton of positives, except we won't see a team that good again this year and we have a few winnable games coming up.

A ton of good athletes have passed through the A-10 over the last two decades, but he's that plus insane skill. They kinda-sorta reminded me of a one level better version of the late 90s Xavier teams where Posey was the key but there was the other dude inside (blanking on his name) and then the really solid backcourt.

Google tells me "the other dude inside" was Torraye Braggs.

I'd change that "but" to an "and". I think it was the 1998-99 team that beat Xavier at home in a super nasty one where Bragg got tossed for a high elbow.

Ash has to just run the offense through Croswell. WTF are we doing? Was at the game and agree with this comment. Dayton couldn't handle Ed down low. Especially Obi who looked to not want to match Croswell's physicality. But for some reason our guys couldnt get it there. They were hesitant. The first 10 minutes we missed at least 3 opportunities to feed Ed. Nothing was crisp. Dayton made us work for everything on the offensive end. I said before the game we'd have to hit a ton of 3s to keep it close. Well after the first half we were 0-7 and only one look by Saul was wide up (spun in and out). Feeding Ed could have caused Dayton to double and have him kick out to an open man. On defense it seemed we were all out of sync. Many times Stone didnt know who to guard. Hikim got caught twice getting posted up by a bigger opponent. It seemed like our press only gave them a head start to keep us out of position. Maybe a zone would have slowed them down? As much as last night sucked. Im happy it was the first game of A10 play. Coach and the players know what its going to take to finish at the top of the conference.

Dayton lost to Kansas in OT and Colorado. Colorado beat number 4 Oregon at home last night. Dayton has a shot to run the A10 table. Will probably lose 1 or 2 road games (like VCU, SLU or UR) and possibly a trap game but barring injuries, could run the table.

Toppin looked like he just let him go a few times once they got up by 20...like..not worth his time to guard or foul him.

Not at all, but it still wouldn't be a positive.

"Don't risk 3 and a foul to avoid potentially 2" isn't exactly quitting on the team.

Not for nothing, but not having a healthy Kenny available hurt as well. Unlikely to have changed the result, but he may have been able to have given us some better matchups both offensively and defensively. Hope he isn't out too long.

Terrible match up for our team. Dayton is long, athletic and FAST. Can’t replicate that in game prep and their length and athleticism defensively made it tough to shoot threes. Our guys honestly looked shell shocked in that blowout streak and never recovered. Good wake up call for them.
Terrific attendance was nice to see. Listening to Ash postgame after Bucknell he sounded like a coach who knew it was going to be more than a little difficult to beat Dayton.

I'm disappointed with the blowout loss. The game was a game for about 12 minutes. It was concerning how difficult Dayton made it to get decent looks. Maybe I got spoiled with cupcake city that I lost my head with where this team is at right now. Hopefully, all you Eagles fans feel the same way around 8 PM Sunday night after not beating a team with a winning record in months.
The Explorers have to win the next 3 games off this is going to be an 18+ win team.

Billy Lange keeping the Hawks in the game with Dayton tied at 33 at the half. LOL
They will still lose this game by double digits one would think.
