Depends on the crowd. If light, Dayton by 13. If good Explorer showing, Dayton by 7.

Going to the game tonight. Looking forward to seeing our guys play a Dayton team that deserves it's top 20 ranking. Ash has us heading in the right direction and I hope the fanbase is hyped about a big A10 matchup against a nationally ranked team.

I was driving on the Jersey turnpike yesterday coming home from DC and I saw the CBS Sports Network truck heading south. Took me a minute or so to realize it was probably heading to La Salle for tonight's game.

I hope it works for you but that line scares me. It says Dayton all the way. I was surprised it was that high. I was think 6-7 points before the line came out.

I'm 50/50 for tonight. I really want to go but who knew that having an eight-month-old baby would keep you really busy?
This is a big step up for us. Obi's the best player in the A-10 in a few years. Maybe since Andrew Nicholson?
I do love the math behind our team this year. Our Sweet 16 team was based on essentially one mathematical factor. They wanted to keep teams from even shooting threes, let alone at a low percentage while they did the opposite. Having a good defense against long range is the key to basketball at all levels now since the game is now so outside oriented. We're also so ridiculously young and having numbers that favorable really shows that a system is getting in place and we have the talent to match the system.
And Hikim is a friggin' stud even without scoring. That's friggin' awesome. One of my favorite players (and a darkhorse for the all-decade team) was DJ Peterson. He was such a great player and didn't need to touch the ball to be that good.
The stat about length-of-possession is also really interesting. I just read the KenPom article explaining the metric (https://kenpom.com/blog/behold-average-possession-length/). It basically says that most good defenses force longer possessions -- think Virginia and the pack-line. VCU also last year had a really big defensive possession length, which is surprising considering Havoc (unless they changed that up last season, since I haven't really paid too much attention).
But some teams have had success with shorter possession lengths. That article (which was written a few years ago) says Stephen F. Austin has a really short possession length but a really efficient defense. That makes sense. I really like that program and will watch them if I'm home and they're on ESPN3. (Although of course I only watched the final two minutes and OT of the Duke thriller.) They took Press Virginia to the woodshed a few years ago in the tournament because they had an even better press-style defense.
I think we get took tonight. We're a young team going against the best team in the conference on Jan. 2. We won't have a big crowd and it won't be anything like the crazy drunk Butler crowd. (I was looking for exits the whole game because I thought the bleachers were going to collapse.) But here's hoping we throw a bunch of punches.

I'll be at the game but I see La Salle losing by 12 due to foul trouble...primarily the bigs.

Need a lot of things to go right in order to keep close throughout. Lot of factors. But im hoping we play good defense, limit turnovers and get hot from 3.
Even though we've been winning we haven't been scorching hot from 3 like in beginning of season. Hopefully the home court rims look awfully big to our guys tonight.

Dayton doesn't play well at Gola. That's my logic. They just beat North Texas the other night so I don't expect any rust, but I think we cover tonight.

Played Monday Night, then you had NYE, then NY Day, then travel to Gola in their first true away game. Dayton may be a bit off tonight. They really haven't been all year. Played some big games in the OOC schedule. May be let down night against a more aggressive team. That's what I'm hoping for.

Is it too late to hire Villanova’s refs to call two on Toppin before he breaks a sweat?

This game is a big ask with a healthy roster but a wildcard is whether Sharif Kenny can go. Looked like he injured his hand/wrist in Bucknell game and didn't return after the injury. Without him it may be tough to sustain the pressure defense that Ash likes to run as we won't have the depth at the guard position.

If I were Ash, I'd tell Ed Croswell that it's better to give up a layup than pick up his second foul in the first ten minutes. (just sayin')

Aside from Toppin, I think we match up well defensively. For Obi, we probably need to run three guys on him through the game. I'd be inclined to start Jared and see how he does, then Ed, then Ray. Ray may be most effective in playing him tight and denying Obi the ball, so if that theory proves out he could get primary Obi D minutes.
The rest of the lineup matches up fine with
Landers/ Spencer or Sherif Crutcher/ Beatty, Hikim Watson/ Saul, Ray Mikesell/ Deas or Stone
I hope Sherif is good to go since I'd like to see how he fares against Landers, who is one tough dude.
