Another big win for the Women, this one vs. Coppin State. Mountain has something good going on, it's great to see.

Last night I listened to the audio of the MBB's game against Wright State while simultaneously watching on ESPN+ the WBB'S rout of ( 0 - 6 ) Coppin State at TGA.
What really jumps out at you are ( 1 ) the way the Lady Explorers aggressively push the ball up the court on every possession throughout the game ( reminiscent of the MBB team's first half against Iona ), and ( 2 ) the way WBB'S coach Mountain MacGillivray keeps all of his players fresh, motivated and dialed-in by substituting freely throughout the game using 10 or more of his players ( also very reminiscent of Ash Howard's system thus far on the MBB side ).

I'm watching the ESPNplus feed. It's halftime and Penn is up 34-24. Miller is on pace for an 18 rebound game! Penn is a very good team this year, probably the most talented we've played to date.
Penn had only 2 fouls in the second quarter, and the 2nd one was I believe could have been an intentional foul on a fast break, but no technical was called. And Mountain is incredulous: "Now you call a foul? Now you call it?" This foul prevented the fast break basket with a few seconds remaining in the half.

I hear someone who is coaching from the stands. Doling out advice that are meant to be helpful but actually are not like "don't rush the shot" and on a more recurrent basis than there are even shots being taken. I like being supportive and making a noticeable ruckus myself but please someone help me learn how to avoid coaching from the stands like this when I go to my kids' games.

Don’t. Let the coaches coach during the game.
It’s the worst in the girls/women’s game.

Can't wait until my daughters are playing (high level) organized basketball and I can scream "DO A DUNK SHOT" every time their team has possession. I'll probably get asked to be assistant coach.

With coaching advice like that, I can't imagine anyone asking you to be less than the head coach. You are the coach we need in women's/girls basketball these days.

The out-matched ( 6 - 6 ) Lady Explorers fell to the ( 5 - 5 ) Villanova Wild Kittens 77 - 69 this past Saturday ( on ESPN + ) at TGA. La Salle freshman Claire Jacobs scored 25 points. Villanova 6'-1" redshirt freshman forward Madison Siegrist erupted for 41 points, a personal collegiate career high, the most points ever scored all-time by a Villanova WBB freshman, and the most points ever scored in a Big Five women's basketball game. Explorers are hanging with 13-3 UMass, down just 31-33 at the half thanks to the Jacobs twins combined 4/6 from three. We'll have to do better at getting to the line where UMass has a ten point advantage through halftime.

That's a wrap from Amherst. UMass played a more organized second half and pulled out the 76-62 win. Explorers dropped the tenth straight game. Some positive signs from this one, but it's back to the drawing board.

hykos : As much as it pains me to say it, the best days of the ( 6 - 11 ) Lady Explorers for this season may well be behind them.
Looking at the W / L records to date of the remaining 12 opponents in their A - 10 conference schedule, it appears to me that La Salle will be hard - pressed to win more than another game or two at most. Hope I am proven wrong on this.

The ladies stopped their 10-game losing streak with a 67-61 win on national TV today over the Bonnies. Feel like that was their first TV game in a few seasons.

Watched on tape delay. It's great to see La Salle with so many scoring options. Point Guard Kate Hill, the Rutgers transfer, had a breakout day with three threes. Jacobs didn't even have her best game but still managed to put up 16 pts and 8 boards. After one travel very early in the game, she played error free the rest of the way. Spruill, who wears Gola's #15, was very effective against the Bonnies with 15 pts and 9 rebounds. Explorers scored the final 8 pts to seal the win.
La Salle lost on TV last year to Oregon State and St Joe's, lost on TV to Rhode Island in 2018, and lost on TV to St Joe's in 2017 at the A10 tournament. First win for any TV audience since 1/9/17 vs Rhode Island.
NBC Sports Network is going to replay the game three times tomorrow if anyone missed the game and wants to catch it.

3 times?!? That seems a but excessive, right? Do they have nothing better to show? At 4 AM, no. I was mistaken, it's not on again until Wednesday at 6AM. My eyes were glazing over and I thought there were multiple listings throughout the day today, but it was just standard and HD options of the same network.

Congratulations, Mountain MacGillivray for his first big five win over St. Joe's today, 67-59. Spruill with a double double and 24 points. Explorers have won two of three and improved to 2-5 in the A10.

Explorers are on a hot streak, and have won 3 of the last 4. The freshman duo has been dominant this year. Claire Jacobs tied her season high with 29 pts against George Mason, Amy Jacobs added 14 pts on 3/4 shooting from three. Coach Mountain got ejected about 30 seconds into the second half for throwing his jacket! A wild second half ensued with plenty of fouls and a close comeback, but the Explorers pulled away late, won by 12 and dribbled out the clock.

The Explorers had another 10 point comeback on the road tonight, beating GW 61-54, with blistering 6/10 three point shooting in the first quarter (60%), which then cooled to 12/28 for the game (33% over the final three quarters and 42% for the game).
GW left seven points on the line including an 0/2 stretch which all but sealed their defeat as they were looking to overtake La Salle. As both teams are now 4-7 in conference, La Salle has gained a crucial tiebreaker as these teams look to improve seeding for the A10 tournament to start on March 2nd. Seeds 3 through 8 host a play-in game to fill in the women's 8-team conference tournament bracket.

Hope I am proven wrong on this. Attachment DeletedThis incredible La Salle women's team has a penchant for road comebacks. Rhode Island was 10-2 in their gym this season, and seemed a formidable opponent in the early going. But La Salle regrouped and put a whooping on the Rams in the second half, nearly doubling them up, 29-15 (to win by 12). I was surprised that Rhode Island stuck to a deliberate tempo throughout the second half, which prevented their momentum from ever being able to overtake La Salle. On to play Davidson next, with the first round playoff seeding now at stake.
