Umass is long and athletic and they were a tough match up for us. In the end we had a shot and came up a little short.
The key to the loss as I mentioned in the "13" thread was the lack of production from Sam, Ty and DJ. Combined they shot 4-17 and missed some wide open looks.
Sam and DJ both shot well from three last year, I am not sure if it a confidence issue or what but we really need them to start shooting better so we have more balance.
I know DJ and Sam play better D then Ty biy he needs more minutes.
We have a toughie on Sat, that is a must win.

Sam, DJ, and Ty are all one dimensional offensive players. It isn't hard to understand why they will struggle during some games. Sam and DJ cannot scored off the dribble effectively and Ty can't shoot. So when that part of their game is taken away they have nothing else to offset that.
Tyreek and Ramon can do both and that is why they are more effective offensive players.
TRhat being said I thought we lost the game because we were sloppy with the basketball. Poor passing and just not controlling the ball doomed us.
Heck we were up one under a minute and Zack gets the rebound and promptly gets it taken away. If he secures the ball it is probably a different outcome.

The issue last night as with many games this year is that both Sam and DJ are getting wide open looks and missing them. If you can shoot and you have an open look you must drain it.....Sam and DJ are not doing that often enough this year.

If we take care of the ball last night we still win the game with their shooting woes. You can probably look at it 10 different ways and pick why we lost but being sloppy with the basketball is just lazy and no excuse for it.

It all goes back to coaching and instilling confidence in these guys. They came out lethargic in the first half when they should have been aggressive. The officials gave UMass the home team calls in part because they showed more aggressiveness. It all goes back to G not hiring an assistant who can help him with this and in-game strategy/adjustments.

I think they should hire Coach D to instill confidence in the team.

clearly confidence is lacking on this team....
if anything i thought they were borderline OVER-confident last night which leads to sloppy ball control as Mik alluded to. Eventually there is also going to be a physical drain from all the excitement and emotion of the last two games, it's physiological fact that the come down on that kind of emotion can have an impact physically.
If the team looked like they weren't all that upset about the loss I would be worried but they looked really angry after the game. I caught DJ storming off the court before the fight song was over. To me that will fuel the fire to get back to their winnign ways.
This league is incredible in terms of depth night in and night out. I believe whoever finishes in the top 4 will be NCAA bound. plenty of time to do that and an 11-5 record, as I thought would be the record all along, is still in reach and not all that unlikely. Everyone is going to lose a game or 2 that they "shouldn't" and no one is going to run away and hide at the top. It's going to be a grind every night.
