I'm guessing there's some sort of loophole with the P.I.A.A. for tournaments or something that allows high school basketball teams to play before November 18, 2019? (The date they set as the first day for winter sports practices to commence)

120 HS teams played at West Chester last week... There are Fall leagues across the country This is the 4th year for the Fall Classic...
These are NOT PIAA games... They are just scrimmages/exhibitions featuring the VERY BEST prospects/teams in the area...
You are welcome to come!! Check us out...

(The date they set as the first day for winter sports practices to commence) DE HS Bball teams are allowed to participate in these kinds of events. I am pretty sure that no one on the coaching staff from the school is allowed to be on the bench or actively coaching during these kinds of games.

Sanford has 2 top 100 kids and about 6-7 D1 prospects overall!!
They are playing Camden which has 3 High Major prospects...
See you there!!

But the schools involved are P.I.A.A. members: Pennsbury, Chester, Cheltenham, Neshaminy, West Catholic, and several others. Once the school year starts, they're not permitted to have any organized practices, scrimmages or games as a team until November 18. The P.I.A.A. has been a real hardass about this in the past. That's why I'm wondering if all they have to do is obtain a waiver from the state in order to participate in something like this.

Fall Leagues are EVERYWHERE!
Fall team camps are EVERYWHERE!
If seven or eight kids from Pennsbury show up and wanna play at Friends' Central or West Chester and they are NOT wearing their school uniforms, being transported on school buses or being coached by school personnel...
What exactly is the issue...
Again... the Big 64 at West Chester had 120 teams last week... 120 teams... I attended an event last Friday, Saturday and Sunday at West Catholic... at least 16 teams playing very competitive games...
Just kids from the schools playing basketball... Not the school teams!!
Better than getting into mischief... IJS

Quite simple - the teams are not allowed as a previous poster said to be coached by a member of the coaching staff. Generally they try to find an alum/college player (D2 and D3 practice is yet to start) or a parent who is fair to coach the team. Generally the kids depending on the state are not allowed to wear school issued gear or go by the team name in the event. Advertising for the event generally does show the school though. This is done everywhere and trust me it doesn't break the rules.

If you print a promotional poster and it says "Pennsbury is playing in a high school age tournament" guess what? It's Pennsbury High School. There's no community called "Bonner-Prendie," it's a P.I.A.A. high school. That's why I asked. I figured it was within the guidelines or they wouldn't be holding it. That's all I wanted to know was how they worked around the strict guidelines. I appreciate your reasonable response.

I remember attending events like this at the old University of Delaware Field House (yes, that is how they spell it on the building) going back to the early 1990's. If I am not mistaken the ones I attended were in the Spring. Kids from DC to NY were playing in their HS groupings. (Some wore sponsor shirts).
I remember seeing PJ Carlesimo and Jim Boeheim in attendance.

All this is ridiculous. No wonder recruiting is a cesspool.

Play too much ball. HS is enough, get a job, hit the books, get a better perspective.

Damn right. The system has been corrupted and totally separate from the colleges. Too many hands and money.

Del, Do you see a Camden/Haddonfield rematch for the 4th straight year in the SJ group2 final? Haddonfield has somehow won the last 2 but I'm not sure they can beat this Camden team.

Rick Brunson has the kids more focused on both ends... Camden should be able to compete with the best from North Jersey this year... Haddonfield lost a GREAT guard and good big kid....

Del, thanks for coming to the First State!! I will try to drop by.... Does this mean that you are going to change your name from Delgreco to Delaware? Which DE teams are participating?

I think Del needs a lesson in copyright law. It's been used for over 100 years by Major League Baseball to describe the World Series, the first instance of which being in 1912.

Josh went to school to be a lawyer for a little and comes from a family with a lawyer in it (I think Dad but not 100& sure). What a weird way to handle this unless Josh is actually ignoring him. I'm sure he'd be willing to change the naming if it was going to be such a thing.

Is Josh Verlin making money on this? I am not sure there this is a copyright infringement.

Do you know how many people use "Fall Classic" in their promotions? As Glitter mentioned, MLB being the most obvious one. And I agree Joe, it seems like a strange way to get Josh's attention. Unless he's using "Black Cager Fall Classic", I'd be surprised if there's any infringement.

Josh's girls showcase is called "Fall Classic" but not the boy's.
