I wish Doc discovered the Zack/Wright combo earlier in the game. Wish Zack didn't draw four fouls. We held them at bay on the glass a bit when that was happening.
Damn. DAMN.

Poorly done offensively, made a run but we let the game get away long before that. I thought Zack was inbouding the ball and Williams fouled Duren after that basket, but we took it out and did it again. Did I miss something? Not making excuses, because we were outplayed most of the game. Really disappointing.

I don't want to hear about "flat" or a "trap game" or any of that. UMass is good, and played better than us tonight. I don't think we played great, and were flat out bad for long stretches. But the effort was there, just a bad night.

We fight hard... we fight well...
UMass is a good team. So are we. They were one box out away from losing. We stole one from them last year at their court. Things even out.
I love the effort. This team does not quit.

If you can't win games like this you don't belong in the Big Dance. Mass is a good team but nothing to get excited about and truth is either are we. Team is pretty good but NIT is much more suited to their talents because it will be one and done in the NCAA's while the NIT could be three or four games. My thinking is VCU is overated and Butler was missing their best player which was a huge help. We should win 22 games minimum counting A10 Tourny and NIT.

We truly would have stole this game had we won. Bigger picture, we were not going to go 14-2 in the A-10, or even 12-4. Last week was incredible, and we probably all got carried away, but we had a right to. We are an upper echelon A-10 team that will be in it with 2 minutes left most games. We have to hope we get more than we let slip away.

A10 tournament gets more and more important to our destiny by the day....
Remember UMASS is down their second best player this season. I'll say it again, GW plays good defense. We have to play better against them SAT.

Got them old A10 mid pack blues. Inconsistent effort, too many mistakes--- TOs etc.
it's a shame. very winnable game.
Gw's licking their chops!

This loss hurts right now, especially because it was at home. But that said, we can and should still get to 21 regular season wins. If we can steal the game at Temple, 22 - that would get us into the tournament. Sure, I'm disappointed, but this is not the time to panic.

Like I said, we all had a right to get swept up last week, but if anything, tonight illustrates how ridiculous it is to talk about tournament resumes and projecting the field this early. Talk to me in mid-February, after the St. Joe's game, when we've played 11 A-10 games.

It was really hard not to get carried away after last week. I realize UMass was a bad match-up for us, because of their size, but a more consistent effort would have won this game. I still think we can be an NCAA tournament team and we should be better than them, but there's a lot of work left to do. We need to win the Big 5 now.

You have to win at home. Period. It's as simple as that. Especially playing a UMASS team without Jesse Morgan.
When you are home and take a lead at the end of the game after being outplayed most of the game - you HAVE to win.
Man, this loss is really going to hurt. We have a good team, but in my opinion we needed 21 wins and then a win in the A-10 playoffs to get in the NCAA Tourney. That means we have to go 7-2 the rest of the regular season before the A-10 playoffs. I like our team, but I just don't think we hit get those 7 wins before the A-10 tourney - tonight was such an important game. And we had it, and let it slip away.

Just got home from the game. Thoughts:
1) Came out flat (again). Told my Dad that if they weren't within five at the half that they would have a hard time coming back. They were down 6, lost by 1.
2) Timeout usage. Look, G put together a great past couple of games. But you don't call your final two timeouts like that. Especially the last one, where the probability is high that UMass will inbound and score; you need that timeout to slow things down and draw up a play. We had almost nine seconds left. More than enough time to get the ball across half court, call time, and inbound with a play drawn up and our heads on straight.
3) Zack really stunk up the joint at times in the second half, particularly when he coughed up that late turnover and UMass recovered via jump ball. He also needs to go up strong to the post and try and draw contact. He kicks it out way too much when he's only two feet from the basket. G really needs to hammer that home.
4) Final, and obvious, observation: lack of big man depth. Can Hunt really not play at all, even for a few minutes? There were times when Zack really needed to sit to clear his head, or when Wright (who looked really really shaken up after taking what should have been a hard charge) went down. We had to switch from two bigs to a four guard offense, which really hurt against a team like UMass who is huge. If we can't count on Hunt to spell the other two for even a couple of minutes, why bother having him here?
This one really hurts. We are going to have to go at least 6-3 over the next nine games to keep any NCAA talk alive (not to mention winning in the A-10 tournament). We went from bubble team to tentative long shot real fast.

I didn't see the game, of course, because it was "pay only" game, but it's a tough loss for sure. But Massachusetts is no slouch and these other teams at the top still have to play each other. The top 8 teams are 4-1, 4-2, 3-2, and 4-3....not much wiggle room between them all. Anyone can move up or plummet down the standings with practically a sneeze.
Playing at George Washington is always tough, a week off, then a Fordham team that somehow is winning games this year comes in.
It's going to be tight every night the league plays for the foreseeable future.

Definitely not the end of the world. Philahoops Story: www.philahoops.com/umass-61-la-salle-60-last-second-heroics-by-williams-downs-the-explorers/The one question I asked Giannini was about the timeout with :58 remaining and at a deadball. He exclaimed that it worked and they stopped Terrell Vinson from scoring. The problem is, Vinson scored off that inbounds pass. He clearly was mistaken, but I thought that timeout was peculiar and really played more into the final ten seconds than a lot of other things. ~Joe Fedorowicz Philahoops.com

In an alternate universe, we actually stopped Vinson and G was remembered as the star of the game.

The time outs tonight were odd. He called one way too late in the first half after UMass went on a tear and put them in a double digit hole, but was quick to burn two in the final minutes at inopportune times. He must have watched a lot of Andy Reid in his spare time.

Philahoops quotes G as saying Tyreek hasn't stepped on a basketball court since the VCU game and a bunch of other guys are under the weather, too. It definitely looked like it at times energy wise.

Team was sluggish all night. It was an uphill battle the instant the game started. Sickness would explain a lot of it.
Regardless we really needed these wins this week. Not the end of the world but as someone stated earlier, our margin for error just shrunk.

Sluggishness was most notable to me the first half. On the positive side, the team seemed to come out with greater intensity in the 2nd half. At one point we were poised to take a couple point lead. But, our guards had 2 consecutive TO's to upend things. Sloppy play was a major contributor to this loss. Im addition to our guards rally killing TO's there was Zack's lack of securing the bound in the waneing minutes. Jerrell had several bad passes. We did not commit 20 TO's but clearly enough to undermine this win.
