The July 15, 2019 issue of Sports Illustrated has a very comprehensive article on the bribery scandal that ensnared Jerome Allen while the basketball coach at Penn. Each reader will have a different reaction to the fact that Allen got no jail time, despite committing significant crimes. And, brought a lot of pain to Penn, his players and his own family. Interesting reading. Link below: www.si.com/nba/2019/07/11/jerome-allen-penn-basketball-bribery-case-ncaa-celtics-philip-esformes

I think his sentence was appropriate. He didn't bring pain to Penn, embarrassment maybe, but their process of admitting coaches' slotted kids and encouraging coaches to solicit donations is at the root of any pain felt by Penn. This is a nonviolent victimless crime and Allen cooperated with the prosecution. The prosecutor recommended four months in jail. I can't make any sense of the value to society of sending Jerome to prison for four months. The sentence was appropriate. The true victims were his reputation and his family. I don't imagine his family wanted him imprisononed and his reputation will never be what it was. I'm glad he wasn't sent to jail.

If the prosecutors didn’t care is not the standard I’d want to live by since “prosecution” can be motivated or unmotivated based on local politics. The idea of justice being blind is an anachronism. Having said that he never struck me as a bad guy but he did waste a Penn degree and the opportunity to be an institution at a wonderful institution. What can he do now - sell insurance or be bailed out by a sucker alum for a job?

BTW, Allen is still a Celtics assistant coach as far as I can see.

He agreed to be used as bait to get the bigger fish in the Medicare fraud scheme...that's why he got a lighter "sentence".

Incredible. How is that person sitting on the bench. Why is it incredible that she is sitting on the bench? Like Allen, Person appears to be a first offender, she encouraged him to continue to be a charitable person but she didn't encourage him to steal. She took a first offender, commended him for being charitable and sentenced him to probation and community service. Why should he have been sentenced to prison. Every person convicted of a crime doesn't have to go to jail.

The judge might as well have been on the Defense team.

Auburn's Chuck Person was being paid $277,000. per year as an Assistant Coach in 2016.
He pled guilty to taking $91,500. in cash bribes to bribe the families of two blue-chip recruits to get them to play for Auburn. He paid a total of only $11,050. of this amount to the two players' families involved and ( it was alleged in the indictment ) secretly kept the remaining $80,450. for himself.
