Rhys Hoskins was 3 for 35 during the road trip with 4 walks, and 16 strikeouts. Despite his struggles at the plate, Hoskins has appeared in 157 of the Phils 159 contests this year and only had one game off since April 16th, that was only the second game of our double header this week. (Kapler rested both Hoskins and Harper in that same contest.)
Kapler has been far too stubborn to make an adjustment to his "play through the slump" approach and he has mismanaged a key part of our line-up by pretending a day off, which is commonly used to allow a player to break through a slump, would somehow exacerbate Rhys' problem.

That whole triumvirate (McPhail, Klentak and Kaplar) needs to go. Bad hires all around. This is a rebuild?

Not that it seals his fate one way or the other, but not making Nola pitch a couple innings today was a disgrace. Fan appreciation day and you toss a bunch of slop relievers, most of who won't be here next year? How the f$%* do you go with 2 bullpen games the final week of the season? I know there was a DH in there, but that doesn't excuse it. The starters have a few months to rest. And I don't give a crap that they were out of it, give the 20,000+ fans that showed up your best team.

And if Nola blew out an elbow in inning 205 you wouldn't freak out about Kapler ruining next season in a meaningless final weekend game?

Nola was brutal in September (like the rest of the team)……….27 2/3 innings, 20 earned runs....era 6.51, 0-3 and Phillies lost all 5 starts. Only decent start versus Boston. He took on the aura of the rest of the staff. BTW, 17-6 last year with a lesser team? Against the Division, when he pitched Phillies were 6-11...….Atlanta 4-2, Mets 2-2, Marlins 0-3, Wash 0-4. He was 4-5 on his record, 8-2 versus the rest. Phillies were 18-16 in games he pitched overall.

Dismissing a manager after just one season is exactly how Maddon ended up in Chicago. Its a pretty bold move.

Phillies owner John Middleton will determine Gabe Kapler's fate. www.inquirer.com/phillies/philadelphia-phillies-gabe-kapler-matt-klentak-john-middleton-20190930.htmlRead Gabe " Moonbeam " Kapler's remarks / promises ( pars. 4 and 5 of the article above ) to the Philadelphia fans at his introductory press conference as the new Phillies Manager two years ago. Now ask yourself : is that what you observed from the Phillies team in the field this year ? How many of Moonbeam's promises did he fail to accomplish / deliver on ?

Just ridiculous that Klentak and McPhail survive. We will be back here next year and maybe the year after that complaining about the performance of the Phillies and Middleton will eventually fire them. What does it cost him to fire them now? Some money but the catch is those dopes have such a barren farm system to remain competitive the Phillies have to spend money on expensive free agents. Either way Middleton has to pay up.
Might as well clean this mess now.

Strike 2. Klentak of course hired that chowderhead Kapler Strike 3. Why Middleton is giving those other two clowns more rope to worsen the problem is beyond me. This organization is a train wreck.

So either Klentak gets to choose the manager and is in for a few years OR management is choosing, Klentak is on thin ice and the next GM either won't get to pick their own manager or the manager that isn't even hired yet is already fired. Definitely good stuff happening.

Definitely good stuff happening. That's exactly why Klentak and MacPhail should be gone. I don't trust them to get it right. Their farm system has been decimated / under-developed, they picked an inexperienced guy as the manager for a rebuilding team, haye locked up a ton of future dead money on one player who won't come close to earning what his contract $ and length are, did absolutely nothing about the starting rotation for 2 years running and NOW you're going to let them pick the next manager? Middleton may be rich, but if he's saying 2 + 2 = 253 in this situation, then this franchise is doomed. Those two clowns should be shown the door now, not next year after the team craters again.

I haven't seen the report, but a friend said the FO admitted they considered fan input in choosing to sign Harper over Machado.

Yeah, I think Machado was the better option, although year one didn't really bear it out (caveat for very diff home parks now). Harper's super-max effort swing looks like one that could either cause physical breakdown or drop off hard as he ages, where any decrease in bat speed or eyesight or anything would cause major problems.
(I said the same thing about Pedroia which didn't really bear out, although he kept the bat in the zone a lot longer than Harper does. One of these days, I'll nail this projection.)

Harper is a Philly player. The fans would eat Machado up. Many Philly fans are also of the "What have you done for me lately" ilk. When Harper flames out (and he will sooner rather than later), the fans will turn on him. Exhibit A: Ryan Howard.
